To schedule separate playlists for multiple YouTube channels on a VPS, give each channel its own YouTube stream, OBS configuration and media playlist, then use YouTube Studio or an external scheduler to start the matching encoder at the right time. A media playlist is the ordered set of files your encoder plays; a YouTube scheduled live broadcast is a separate event that receives that encoder feed. One does not schedule or control the other automatically.
How the pieces fit together
For each channel, keep three things aligned: its YouTube live stream and broadcast, its encoder configuration, and the media files the encoder plays. A YouTube liveBroadcast is the viewer-facing event; a liveStream describes the incoming audio/video feed. Google’s Live Streaming API supports binding a broadcast to a stream, and multiple channels require a different liveStream for each channel. A stream can be reused for recurring events on the same channel.
The media playlist lives in the encoder, not in YouTube’s ordinary video-playlist feature. A YouTube video playlist does not automatically drive live playback or assign a different source list to each channel. The architecture below uses OBS on a VPS for playback and encoding, plus either manual event scheduling in YouTube Studio or your own API-based scheduler.
Check eligibility, limits and workload before setup
Confirm every channel can go live
YouTube Help says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days to live stream. Check each channel separately before building the schedule.

Account for YouTube’s concurrent-stream limits
YouTube Help currently states limits of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key; both limits apply. These are platform limits, separate from the number of feeds your VPS can handle.
Estimate capacity from the actual workload
There is no universal VPS CPU, memory, GPU or bandwidth specification for this setup. Requirements depend on the number of feeds active at once, output resolution and bitrate, and whether OBS encodes video or mostly relays prepared media. Establish those details before choosing a host, and test the expected simultaneous load. Do not assume that a VPS capable of one feed can handle several.

Choose how to schedule YouTube broadcasts
| Approach | Best fit | What it requires |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube Studio | Manual scheduling and a manageable number of events | Schedule and manage broadcasts in the relevant channel’s Studio account, then ensure the encoder starts the corresponding feed at the event time. |
| YouTube Live Streaming API | Programmatic creation and management of broadcasts | Build and maintain authorization and automation for each relevant channel, create events with a title, scheduled start time and privacy status, and bind each event to that channel’s stream. |
The API is not a general authorization shortcut across unrelated channels. Google’s content-owner delegation route is intended for eligible YouTube content partners. For ordinary channel operators, authorize the relevant channel account. Neither YouTube Studio nor the API, by itself, schedules which local media files OBS plays; that remains part of the encoder configuration and orchestration.
Set up a separate OBS configuration for each channel
- Create a channel-specific profile and scene collection. In OBS, keep each channel’s output settings and sources isolated. OBS supports selecting a profile and scene collection when launching, which lets a scheduler start the intended configuration.
- Add the channel’s media playlist. For an ordered list of files, use OBS’s VLC video source. It supports playlist order, looping and optional shuffle. VLC must be installed for this source to appear. For an individual local file, use OBS Media Source instead.
- Set the matching YouTube stream credentials. Configure the output to send to that channel’s own YouTube stream, using that channel’s stream key or the appropriate authorized connection. Keep credentials separated; do not point multiple channel configurations at the same channel’s feed by mistake.
- Set output options for the media and host. Choose resolution, bitrate and encoder settings that the source files, available VPS resources and intended YouTube ingest workflow can sustain. No universal values are established for a multi-channel VPS deployment, so validate your own workload rather than copying a speculative preset.
- Launch the intended configuration at event time. OBS documents the
--startstreaminglaunch option and options to select a profile and scene collection. OBS does not document a complete per-channel calendar scheduler; use an external scheduler or orchestration layer to start the right OBS configuration at the right time.
For a Documentary channel, for example, one configuration might loop a channel’s own approved documentary files, while another channel uses a different ordered list and its own stream credentials. Keep each media list, event schedule and encoder configuration associated with the same channel.

Schedule the event and connect it to the right feed
- In YouTube Studio, create or select a scheduled live event for the channel, or create it through the Live Streaming API with its title, scheduled start time and privacy status.
- Select or create that channel’s
liveStream. For API-managed events, associate the broadcast with the stream belonging to that same channel. - In your scheduler, map the event time to the matching OBS profile, scene collection, playlist and stream credentials.
- Start the encoder in time to establish the feed, then check the YouTube preview or ingest state before the event is due to begin.
Repeat the mapping independently for each channel. A schedule entry for a broadcast is not sufficient if it starts the wrong OBS scene collection or sends video to another channel’s stream.
Test each channel, then test simultaneous operation
- Confirm the preview shows the intended channel’s video and audio.
- Check that the playlist plays in the expected order and loops or shuffles only if configured to do so.
- Verify that the event is associated with the right channel stream and that the intended stream credentials are in use.
- Test a scheduled start and encoder restart, and observe whether the feed recovers as expected after a connection interruption.
- Run the number of feeds you expect to operate at the same time, then inspect host load and feed stability.
- Check YouTube’s active-stream limits as well as the VPS capacity; passing one test does not establish the other.
Use HLS only if your ingest workflow calls for it
HLS is a protocol-specific alternative to the usual RTMP workflow, not a setting every VPS operator must use. If you choose YouTube HLS ingestion, the encoder must support YouTube’s requirements: HTTPS, TS segments, segment durations of 1–4 seconds, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, and no byte ranges. YouTube notes that HLS has higher latency than RTMP. Check your encoder and ingest configuration against those requirements before relying on HLS.

Troubleshoot common scheduling and playback failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| The wrong files appear on a channel | The scheduler launched the wrong profile or scene collection, or the media source points to another channel’s files. | Check the launch options, scene collection, VLC playlist and file paths for that event. |
| YouTube shows no incoming feed | The encoder is not running, the wrong stream credentials are configured, or the event is bound to a different stream. | Check the OBS output, channel stream association and YouTube preview/ingest state. |
| A broadcast is scheduled but playback does not begin | The broadcast event and the encoder’s media playlist are separate; scheduling the event did not start OBS. | Check the external scheduler or orchestration layer and confirm it launched OBS with the intended configuration. |
| The VLC playlist source is unavailable | VLC is not installed, which OBS requires for that source. | Install VLC on the VPS and reopen OBS; use Media Source for an individual local file if that fits the job. |
| A feed becomes unstable when several channels run | The host may not sustain the active encoding or relay workload, or YouTube’s active-stream limit may have been reached. | Test the actual concurrent workload, check host load and confirm both platform limits are respected. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is simply to keep uploaded videos looping on YouTube, StreamNeo is an alternative to operating OBS and a VPS: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The cloud keeps it running without a computer or home connection staying on. Each slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it can recover automatically if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo streams uploaded videos to YouTube; it does not go live from a camera. See StreamNeo, or start the free first day.
