Yes. You can run different playlists to separate YouTube channels at the same time by setting up a scheduled broadcast for each channel and giving each its own FFmpeg output, ingest URL, and stream key. YouTube handles the event and its schedule; FFmpeg sends the audio and video.
How YouTube scheduling and FFmpeg fit together
They do different jobs. FFmpeg reads media and sends an encoded output. YouTube creates and manages the event viewers watch.
- A YouTube broadcast represents a live event and becomes a distinct YouTube video.
- A YouTube live stream represents the incoming audio-video feed and its streaming settings. A broadcast is bound to a stream.
- An FFmpeg job or output reads the playlist’s media, maps the desired streams, and sends them to an ingest destination.
YouTube’s Live Streaming API documentation says that channels require different stream resources. A stream may be reused for events at different times, but concurrent broadcasts on different channels need the appropriate separate channel streams.
Set up different playlists on different channels
- Schedule a live event on each channel. In YouTube Studio, use the channel’s Live Control Room to schedule the event. You can also create and manage broadcast and stream resources through the YouTube Live Streaming API.
- Get the destination for each event. For every channel, note the server URL and stream key associated with its live stream. Keep each pair with the playlist and channel it belongs to; do not accidentally send one channel’s playlist to another channel’s key.
- Configure independent FFmpeg outputs. Run a separate FFmpeg job for each playlist, or configure multiple independent outputs. Use FFmpeg’s input, mapping, and output options to send each playlist’s audio and video to its intended YouTube destination. The FFmpeg documentation describes output handling and manual stream selection with
-map; it does not prescribe one universal playlist-scheduling script. - Start the encoders and check each preview. Confirm that each channel receives the correct video and audio and that the preview and stream health look right. Then transition each scheduled event to live as needed using the YouTube Live Control Room workflow.
What “at once” requires in practice
Separate playlist outputs are feasible, but no universal maximum number of simultaneous FFmpeg outputs or minimum host specification is established by the cited documentation. Capacity depends on the machine, encoding settings, input workload, and available upload bandwidth. Each additional output can add processing, encoding, and network demand, so test the intended configuration rather than assuming a particular number of channels will work.

YouTube Help describes local software or hardware encoders as supporting multiple simultaneous streams and also notes cloud encoders as an option for distributing a feed across channels or platforms. That describes a workflow category, not a guarantee of a particular FFmpeg host’s capacity.
Studio or API for managing the events?
Studio is the manual option: schedule each channel’s event, connect its encoder, inspect the preview, and make the event live. The API is for programmatically creating and managing broadcasts and stream resources. Either way, event creation and scheduling remain on YouTube’s side; FFmpeg handles media transmission.

Troubleshoot a missing or incorrect stream
- The wrong channel receives a playlist: check the mapping between playlist, channel, server URL, and stream key for every FFmpeg job or output.
- A scheduled event has no incoming video: confirm that FFmpeg is running and sending to the server URL and stream key associated with that event’s channel stream.
- The event is not live even though FFmpeg is sending: check the channel’s Live Control Room preview and event state. Sending media and changing the broadcast’s state are separate actions.
- One or more outputs fail under load: reduce concurrent processing demands or adjust the workload, then verify that the host and upstream connection can sustain the chosen outputs. The official sources do not publish a universal concurrency threshold.
