Create a playlist from a vertical video or Short, then set up your live showcase separately in YouTube Studio. A playlist organizes videos; it does not turn them into a live stream. For a vertical live, choose the format before going live, then add the stream archive and useful clips to your playlist afterward.
Create a playlist from a vertical video or Short
- Open the video or Short you want to use as the starting point.
- Select More → Save → Create new playlist.
- Name the playlist and select a visibility option shown in your account.
- Repeat the save process for each relevant video and add it to the new playlist.
YouTube describes a playlist as a collection of videos. Some functionality may not be available when a playlist contains only Shorts, so check how the current interface handles the specific playlist in your account. YouTube Help: Create and manage playlists.
Set up the vertical live showcase
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live and configure or schedule the stream in Live Control Room.
- Choose the vertical format before starting. YouTube says vertical cannot be added after a stream has started.
- For Live Control Room dual streaming, review the vertical layout. YouTube offers center crop, fit to phone width, and stacked options; preview the composition and make sure the featured product remains visible.
- If using a third-party encoder, configure RTMP(S) dual streaming and use the corresponding stream keys as directed in Live Control Room.
- Check both the vertical and horizontal previews before going live, if you plan to deliver both formats.
YouTube says Live Control Room supports simultaneous horizontal and vertical delivery. The vertical version is 9:16 and center-cropped by default; horizontal is 16:9. Mobile viewers can discover the vertical version in the Shorts feed, while other viewers see the horizontal version. Both formats use the same live chat. These distinctions and feature comparisons are described in YouTube Help. Do not assume a feature available to horizontal viewers also appears in the vertical live feed.

Tag products only when the channel and showcase qualify
Eligible creators can tag products in Live Control Room through the Shopping tab. Tags can be added before a stream and after it ends; post-stream tags appear during replays. Whether a product is visible depends on supported regions, shipping availability, selected retailers, creator eligibility, and content eligibility. Made-for-kids or otherwise ineligible-for-monetization content does not show product tags. YouTube Help: Tag products in your content.
- Tag only products clearly identifiable in the showcase and meaningfully related to what it demonstrates.
- Make each tagged product prominent and clearly depicted, and show it being used as intended.
- Check Shopping eligibility in Studio. Requirements for promoting products from other brands include YouTube Partner Programme and subscriber-threshold criteria, supported creator locations, and other restrictions; requirements can change.
- Confirm the product is available through a selected retailer and to the intended viewer’s location. Retailers handle transactions, delivery, payment, and order support.
YouTube’s product guidance applies to Shorts, live streams, and standard videos. Its overview of eligibility and regional limits is at YouTube Shopping; verify current account-level availability in Studio.

Add the archive and highlights after the live
- After the stream, find its archive on your channel. YouTube says live archives are uploaded automatically by default.
- Add the archive to the product showcase playlist, along with relevant vertical videos or highlight clips.
- If YouTube offers a Short highlight for a qualifying mobile stream, review it and set its visibility deliberately: saved highlights default to private.
YouTube may offer a Short highlight when a stream is 10 minutes to 12 hours long, vertical, streamed with the YouTube mobile app, not a screencast, has chat enabled, is not made for kids, and meets safety requirements. These are YouTube’s stated conditions, not a guarantee that the option will appear. YouTube recommends organizing archives and highlight clips into playlists. YouTube Help: Promote your live stream.
