You can stream a prerecorded playlist to YouTube Live around the clock from a Windows VPS by creating a YouTube broadcast, running an encoder on the VPS that loops your media, and sending the encoder output to YouTube’s stream URL with your stream key. The setup is self-managed: first enable live streaming, verify the VPS can sustain your chosen bitrate, and monitor the broadcast in YouTube Studio. YouTube recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval for its encoder settings. YouTube’s encoder setup guide and settings table are the platform references.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s setup guidance.
- A Windows VPS in an India region, if India-based hosting is important to your setup. Confirm that the provider offers the region for the particular Windows plan you intend to use; availability and performance vary by provider.
- Video files you have the right to stream, organized into a playlist or a looping source in your encoder.
- Sustained outbound bandwidth and any transfer allowance needed for continuous streaming. Check the provider’s terms and test the actual connection; the VPS’s location alone does not establish that its network can sustain a broadcast.
- An encoder that can read and loop your media and send a live feed to YouTube. YouTube documents the connection flow, but does not prescribe a particular Windows encoder, FFmpeg command, or watchdog implementation.
For a prerecorded documentary playlist, the VPS replaces the computer you might otherwise leave running at home. It does not remove the need to maintain the playlist, encoder, network capacity, and broadcast.
Choose the output settings and check bandwidth
Use YouTube’s recommendations for the codec, resolution, and frame rate you select. The figures below are YouTube’s recommended H.264 video bitrates, not minimum VPS speeds or guarantees of stream quality. They apply specifically to the resolution and frame-rate combinations shown. Consult YouTube’s full encoder settings table for other combinations and for AV1 or HEVC recommendations.

Use YouTube’s encoder baseline
- Protocol: YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension of RTMP that encrypts data to and through Google’s servers.
- Video: YouTube lists H.264, HEVC (H.265), and AV1 support, with output up to 60 fps. If you use H.264, set a constant bitrate (CBR).
- Keyframes: Set a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube says it should not exceed four seconds.
- Audio: YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio.
YouTube transcodes the incoming feed into formats for viewers, but you should still test the source and monitor stream health rather than assume a particular result. YouTube recommends a speed test to assess upload bitrate and a representative preflight stream before the real broadcast.

Interpret India bandwidth guidance correctly
The National Informatics Centre’s webcast guidance specifies 2–4 Mbps dedicated bandwidth per stream and asks users of its own webcast service to check outbound RTMP port 1935 access. That is context for the NIC webcast process—not a YouTube bitrate recommendation, a VPS sizing rule, or proof that a provider permits continuous outbound streaming. See the NIC Webcast Services page. For this YouTube setup, match the VPS’s sustained outbound capacity to the bitrate you choose, and verify its transfer terms and permitted traffic with the provider.
Create a YouTube Live broadcast and get its stream details
- Enable live streaming. If the channel has not streamed live before, enable the feature in YouTube and allow for the possibility that activation takes up to 24 hours.
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live.
- Choose the broadcast flow. Use the Stream tab to create a broadcast, or open Manage to schedule one.
- Copy the connection details. Obtain the broadcast’s server/stream URL and stream key. Enter them only into the encoder you intend to use. Treat the key as a credential: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to that broadcast, so do not publish or share it.

Configure the Windows VPS encoder to loop your playlist
- Put the media on the VPS. Upload the files you plan to stream and organize them in the encoder’s playlist or looping source. Confirm that the encoder can read every file and that the playlist order is the one you want.
- Set the output format. Choose a codec, resolution, and frame rate supported by your encoder and use YouTube’s settings as the baseline. For H.264, configure CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, then select the corresponding recommended bitrate from the table above.
- Enter YouTube’s destination. In the encoder’s live output settings, enter the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room. Select RTMPS when the encoder offers the secure protocol and YouTube provides the corresponding destination.
- Enable looping and start the encoder. Configure the source to repeat when the playlist ends. Start sending the feed and watch for the incoming stream in YouTube Studio.
- Check preview and stream health. Send a representative test and inspect the preview and health indicators in Live Control Room. If you scheduled the broadcast, starting the encoder sends the feed but does not by itself complete the scheduled launch: wait for the preview, then click Go live.
The exact encoder controls differ by software. YouTube explains how to connect an encoder, but does not specify a universal Windows interface, service configuration, or recovery script. Follow the encoder vendor’s instructions for installing it as a background process or restarting it after a failure, and test those behaviors rather than assuming they are automatic.
Plan for interruptions, archives, and rights
Do not treat a 24-hour broadcast as a guaranteed complete archive
YouTube says, “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” That statement does not promise an archive for a single uninterrupted 24-hour stream. If you need a complete recording, plan and verify archival separately instead of relying on YouTube to preserve the whole nonstop broadcast. Review the playlist’s copyright and channel suitability
Use only recordings you own or are authorized to stream. A license for a documentary, music track, or other program may not cover continuous retransmission on YouTube; check the rights and permitted use for each item. YouTube’s monetization and channel policies can also affect whether a channel or video is eligible to earn revenue. Do not assume that putting several videos in a playlist, or streaming them continuously, makes them original content or resolves a rights issue.
Troubleshoot common problems

VPS or managed cloud streaming?
A Windows VPS gives you direct control over the encoder and playlist, but you are responsible for setting it up, keeping it supplied with media, checking network capacity, and monitoring failures. YouTube’s encoder documentation also lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded streaming; that listing does not establish current India availability, pricing, or partner terms. Check those details directly before choosing it.
