To loop children’s educational videos on a YouTube livestream from a cloud PC, run OBS Studio on the cloud computer, add a video as a Media Source, enable Loop, then connect OBS to a broadcast created in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. For a sequence of videos, use OBS’s VLC Video source with Loop Playlist enabled; VLC must be installed. The cloud PC keeps playback and encoding off your home computer, but you still need a persistent session, a capable encoder and a stable connection.
Before you start
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube also says a person livestreaming must meet its minimum age requirement of 16. Check YouTube’s current livestreaming eligibility guidance because platform rules can change.
- A cloud PC or virtual machine that can run OBS Studio, access your video files and remain running for the planned broadcast. There is no universal cloud-PC specification for this workload: video resolution, frame rate, encoder and host capabilities all affect resource needs.
- A video or playlist you own or are authorized to broadcast, including the rights to its soundtrack and images.
- Access to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and the encoder connection details for the broadcast.
OBS Studio is free, open-source software for Windows, macOS and Linux. Its documented looping options are Media Source for one file and VLC Video for a playlist.
Create the YouTube broadcast
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and open Create > Go live to enter Live Control Room. Create or schedule a broadcast and choose the encoder workflow.
- Set the title, description, visibility and other broadcast details. Choose the audience accurately using YouTube’s current Studio guidance. A child-directed field exists in YouTube’s LiveBroadcast API, but that API field by itself is not a complete guide to deciding whether content is made for children. See the LiveBroadcast API reference and follow YouTube’s current audience guidance for your channel.
- Copy the stream key and server URL or other encoder details shown for the broadcast. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to broadcast to your channel. Do not paste it into a public document or share it with children.
Set up OBS on the cloud PC
Prepare the cloud session and media
- Install OBS Studio on the cloud PC and sign in to the remote desktop. Keep the VM, remote session and OBS process running; closing or suspending the VM can stop playback and the stream.
- Place the media on storage the cloud PC can read. If you transfer files over a remote connection, allow time for the upload to finish before starting the broadcast. Check that the full file is present and opens correctly on the cloud PC.
- Open the media in a local OBS preview before going live. Confirm that picture and sound play, the layout fits the intended output, and there are no unexpected black frames or silent sections. A cloud VM may not expose a usable hardware encoder, so test the actual machine and settings rather than assuming it can sustain a particular resolution or frame rate.
Loop one video
- In OBS, select or create a scene, then use the Sources panel’s + button and choose Media Source.
- Name the source if useful, then select the video file. Enable Loop in the source properties and confirm. OBS repeats the file after playback ends.
- Check the scene preview and listen through a full playback cycle if practical. Make sure the file’s ending and beginning do not create an unwanted pause or abrupt transition.
Loop a playlist
- In the Sources panel, select + and choose VLC Video. Install VLC on the cloud PC if the source is unavailable; OBS’s VLC source requires it.
- Add the video files to the source playlist in the order you want them to play.
- Enable Loop Playlist, then preview the playlist to check file order, playback and audio before streaming.
Connect OBS and go live
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Select YouTube if available, or use the custom service option and enter the server URL and stream key from the Live Control Room. Interface labels may vary by OBS version.
- In Settings > Output, choose an encoder and bitrate that the cloud PC and its network can sustain. In Settings > Video, set the output resolution and frame rate appropriate for the source and host. There is no single bitrate, resolution or cloud-PC specification established for every video and VM in this workflow; test the selected combination before relying on it for a long broadcast.
- Start OBS streaming. In YouTube Live Control Room, wait for the incoming feed and inspect the live preview, audio and stream health. Start the broadcast from YouTube when its workflow indicates the stream is ready.
- Keep OBS and the cloud PC running. Monitor playback and YouTube’s stream health during the broadcast, especially after any remote-session disconnect or VM maintenance.
Cloud PC or managed cloud streaming?
A cloud PC gives you a remote desktop where you maintain OBS, the operating system, media files and configuration. A managed streaming service can handle playback and broadcasting through its own cloud workflow, but its actual reliability, recovery behavior, storage limits and controls depend on the provider. Do not assume a service is suitable for a child-directed channel without checking current YouTube support, its operating terms and how you will monitor the broadcast.

Use content you are allowed to broadcast
Educational purpose does not, by itself, give you permission to use a video, soundtrack, illustrations or other material. Stream only content you own or have authorization to broadcast. YouTube livestreams must comply with its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service; a technical setup or audience setting does not establish legal compliance.

Set the audience and chat deliberately
Use YouTube Studio’s current audience workflow to classify the stream accurately. The API’s child-directed designation confirms a technical field exists; it is not a substitute for YouTube’s current criteria or applicable law. Decide whether live chat is appropriate for the audience. If you enable it, arrange active moderation and review the available controls in YouTube Studio before the broadcast.
Troubleshoot common problems
- YouTube does not accept the stream: confirm the channel meets current livestream eligibility, that the broadcast is created in Live Control Room, and that OBS has the correct server details and stream key. If a key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- The video does not repeat: reopen the Media Source properties and verify Loop is enabled. For a playlist, check that the source is VLC Video, VLC is installed, and Loop Playlist is enabled.
- The VLC Video source is missing: install VLC on the cloud PC, then restart or reopen OBS and try adding the source again.
- OBS shows dropped frames or YouTube reports poor stream health: OBS identifies an unstable connection or a connection that cannot keep up with the configured bitrate as possible causes. Lower the bitrate or output demands, check the cloud host’s network and test again.
- The stream stops after you disconnect: the VM or session may have suspended, shut down or closed OBS. Check the cloud provider’s session-persistence settings and keep the VM running for the broadcast. A cloud PC does not guarantee uninterrupted operation.
- There is no audio, or it is unexpectedly quiet: confirm the file has an audio track, OBS’s meters move during playback, and the correct audio source is enabled. Recheck the YouTube preview before starting the public broadcast.
- The cloud PC struggles to encode: test the selected resolution, frame rate and encoder on that VM. If hardware encoding is unavailable or performance is insufficient, reduce output demands or choose a host suited to the workload; no universal VM specification is established for this setup.
Estimate upload and operating costs
With a cloud PC, account for the VM’s billed running time, storage and transfer charges under that provider’s terms, as well as the time needed to configure and monitor OBS. A managed service shifts some system maintenance to the provider, but you should compare its current storage, control, recovery, resolution, bitrate, price and cancellation terms before choosing it. For either approach, test the full workflow before scheduling a long-running stream; neither a cloud desktop nor a vendor description proves uninterrupted service.
