YouTube receives the encoder’s feed at a stream URL using a stream key. Before planning a launch, verify that your channel can go live, arrange the lesson playlist and rights, and test the complete sequence; a 24/7 schedule is an operating goal, not a guarantee of uninterrupted uptime.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel eligible to stream live. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before your intended launch date. YouTube’s live-streaming requirements explain eligibility.
- An encoder route. The encoder takes your recorded lessons and sends a continuous audio/video feed to YouTube. You can use computer software, a dedicated hardware encoder, or a cloud service. YouTube’s encoder setup guide documents the connection process and examples.
- Lessons and supporting media you have permission to stream. Check the rights to recordings, slides, textbook excerpts, music, images, and any third-party instructor material. Educational intent alone does not automatically grant permission.
- A separate on-demand plan. If students need to find a particular lesson later, retain the original files and publish ordinary videos or playlists as well as any live feed.
Choose how to run the continuous feed
The right route depends on whether you want to operate a computer yourself, invest in hardware, or hand off the continuous playback to a cloud service. YouTube lists software encoders, hardware encoders, and cloud-based options; its list is not an endorsement or a guarantee of uptime.
| Route | What YouTube documents | Consider before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| Software encoder on a computer | YouTube lists OBS as open-source software available at no charge. The computer runs the playback and sends the feed. | You need a computer, reliable power and internet, and someone to configure and monitor the setup. Consider scheduling and recovery features for a continuous channel. |
| Dedicated hardware encoder | YouTube lists hardware encoders. Its AJA HELO Plus entry describes scheduled prerecorded-media streaming. | Check the current price and availability where you live, the device’s supported media and schedule workflow, storage, monitoring, support, and whether it fits your scale. |
| Cloud streaming service | YouTube lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded-video streams. | Compare current pricing, file limits, scheduling, recovery, data handling, geographic availability, support, and how to export your files if you leave. |
YouTube recommends evaluating encoder products and selecting one that fits your needs. The options it lists do not establish that a particular setup will run without interruption.
Prepare a clear, rights-checked lesson sequence
- Make a playlist or schedule. Put the lessons in a deliberate order, and include only recordings and supporting material you have the right to stream.
- Label each lesson clearly. Use subject and lesson titles viewers can understand when they join midstream. Consider a visible title card between lessons so viewers can tell what is playing.
- Decide what happens at the end. Choose whether the sequence restarts, moves to another subject, or pauses. Check that the transition works in your chosen encoder and does not leave viewers with an unintended blank or silent interval.
- Keep source files and on-demand copies. Preserve the originals and publish searchable individual lessons or playlists if students need dependable replay access.
Create the YouTube broadcast and connect your encoder
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Go Live. Create or schedule a broadcast and select the privacy and timing appropriate for your test or launch. YouTube models a broadcast as a distinct video event connected to an incoming stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key. In YouTube Live Control Room, get the server URL and stream key for the broadcast or stream you are using.
- Enter both in the encoder’s streaming settings. Paste the URL into the server or ingestion URL field, and the key into the stream-key field. The exact labels vary by encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, and replace it if it is exposed.
- Start the encoder. Start playback and transmission from your software, hardware, or cloud service. Wait for YouTube to receive the feed and check its stream health in Live Control Room.
- Confirm the broadcast is live. Starting the encoder sends the feed, but check YouTube Studio to ensure the intended broadcast has actually gone live.
YouTube documents the URL-and-key connection and the steps to start an encoder feed in its live-stream encoder instructions.

Test before opening the channel to viewers
Rehearse the whole cycle, not just the first minute. A private or unlisted test can help you find problems before a public launch. Check:
- Audio is audible and synchronized with the lesson video.
- Lessons play in the intended order, including at loop boundaries and scheduled transitions.
- Viewers can identify the subject and lesson currently playing.
- YouTube Live Control Room reports a healthy incoming feed and the correct broadcast is live.
- The setup behaves as expected after a dropped connection or encoder restart. Recovery behavior depends on the encoder or service; YouTube’s listing does not guarantee it.
- Someone knows how to monitor stream health, update the lesson sequence, and restart the feed if needed.
Keep a 24/7 feed distinct from special live events
YouTube’s API distinguishes a liveStream, the incoming media feed and its settings, from a liveBroadcast, a distinct YouTube video event. Its documentation, last updated September 14, 2026, describes a channel that keeps a 24/7 feed running while creating a separate interview broadcast on the same stream; ending the separate broadcast does not end the continuous feed. This can suit a revision channel that wants a separately listed Q&A without stopping its lesson stream. See Google’s YouTube Live Streaming API documentation for the broadcast-and-stream model.

Plan for archives, policies, and monetization carefully
Do not rely on one complete 24-hour replay
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is not a promise that a single 24-hour event will become one complete replay file. Keep the lesson originals and offer ordinary recordings or playlists when searchable, dependable on-demand access matters. The archive condition appears in YouTube’s encoder guide.
Follow YouTube rules and clear content rights
Live streams must comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. YouTube may age-restrict or remove streams, or restrict live access. Review the rules and confirm permission for every third-party element in each lesson before scheduling it. YouTube’s live-streaming guidance covers the channel requirements and policy context.

Treat monetization as conditional
YouTube says channels in the YouTube Partner Program can monetize live streams, but eligibility and settings apply; do not assume that a continuous feed will earn a particular amount. YouTube’s encoder guide identifies Partner Program monetization as an option, not a revenue guarantee.
Common problems and practical fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| You cannot start a live stream | The channel is not verified, live access is restricted, or first-time activation is still processing. | Review eligibility in YouTube Studio and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. |
| YouTube does not receive the feed | The stream URL or key is missing or incorrect, or the encoder has not started sending. | Compare the encoder fields with the values in Live Control Room; restart the encoder after correcting them. |
| The stream stops unexpectedly | The computer, power, connection, encoder, or service may have failed. | Check stream health and the encoder’s logs or status, restore the source or connection, and follow your restart plan. Do not assume every encoder recovers automatically. |
| Playback goes silent, blank, or out of sequence | A file, playlist transition, or loop boundary may not behave as expected. | Replay the affected transition in a test; verify the source files and playlist order, then retest before returning to public streaming. |
| Viewers cannot locate a lesson afterward | A long live event is not a substitute for an organized on-demand library. | Publish and label individual lesson recordings or group them in playlists, while retaining the originals. |
Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so no computer or home internet connection has to stay on. Every slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot rather than quality tiers; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for prerecorded video to YouTube, not camera broadcasts. Start your free first day with StreamNeo.
