For a 24/7 loop of prerecorded videos, OneStream Live’s dedicated cloud workflow is the closer fit—if your account is eligible for it. For a broadcast you produce live with scenes, a webcam, or other local sources, OBS is the better fit, but your computer and internet connection must keep running. Neither service has a documented, independently measured uptime advantage. StreamNeo is another cloud option to consider first: it keeps an uploaded-video YouTube stream running from the cloud, at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with the first day free.
Choose by workflow, not by an assumed reliability ranking
| Decision point | OneStream Live 24/7 workflow | OBS workflow |
|---|---|---|
| What goes on air | Prerecorded videos arranged for ongoing YouTube playback. | A live production assembled from scenes and sources on the local computer. OBS can also record. |
| Where it runs | OneStream describes its 24/7 scheduling as cloud-based; you configure the playlist and duration. | OBS runs on your computer. You maintain the computer, encoding settings, and network connection. |
| Destination and duration | The dedicated feature is YouTube-only. OneStream’s Help Center says a scheduled stream can run for up to 30 days. | YouTube is one possible destination. The cited OBS sources do not establish a fixed stream-duration limit specific to OBS. |
| Production control | Designed for automated prerecorded playback. OneStream also describes separate studio and encoder workflows. | Well suited to custom scenes, live camera or capture-card input, and external audio/video hardware. |
| Keeping it connected | The cloud workflow avoids having your OBS computer encode the prerecorded loop. No comparative uptime data is published in the cited sources. | OBS has an automatic reconnect setting, but local equipment and connectivity still need attention; reconnect is not an uptime guarantee. |
| Cost considerations | Plan eligibility and the total current price need confirmation: OneStream’s help and pricing pages describe the 24/7 offering differently. | OBS is software, but the computer and internet connection are operational costs. A full cost-of-ownership comparison is not established by the cited sources. |
For a documentary channel rotating previously recorded films, lectures, or episodes, the key question is whether the content should simply loop or whether you need to produce a live show. A cloud playlist reduces the need to operate a local encoder. OBS offers control over a live production, at the cost of keeping the local setup available.
What OneStream’s dedicated 24/7 feature does—and its limits
OneStream’s Help Center describes a YouTube-only feature that loops prerecorded material. Its article, last updated September 3, 2026, says the feature requires an Enterprise plan and allows a scheduled 24/7 stream to run for up to 30 days. To continue beyond that period, an operator would need to schedule another stream. OneStream Live Help Center: How to Start 24/7 Live Streaming?
The setup described by OneStream is to choose a 24-hour stream, add videos from a device or storage, connect the YouTube channel, enter stream details, set the duration, and schedule the broadcast. The cited help page is specifically about prerecorded looping—not about using OBS to produce a live show.

OneStream’s broader platform overview describes prerecorded scheduling and encoder input such as OBS. It says the service overall supports 45+ social media platforms and custom RTMP destinations, but that broad platform count does not apply to the dedicated 24/7 feature, which is YouTube-only. The overview also says prerecorded streams can be scheduled up to 60 days in advance; that is scheduling lead time, not stream duration. OneStream Live Help Center: OneStream Live Overview
Check eligibility and total price before committing
OneStream’s Help Center says 24/7 streaming requires Enterprise, while its pricing page also displays a separate 24-hour YouTube stream add-on. The available descriptions do not establish whether that add-on alone makes the feature available on every plan or whether other account conditions apply. Confirm eligibility and the full recurring cost directly with OneStream before purchasing; plan terms, included bandwidth, and storage can change. OneStream Live pricing
When checked on October 3, 2026, the pricing page displayed Free, Basic at $15/month, Standard at $39/month, Professional at $49/month, Enterprise at $139/month, and a 24-hour-stream add-on at $30/month. Those are time-sensitive displayed prices, not a guarantee of current checkout terms.

When OBS is the better choice
Use OBS when the stream needs to be produced as it airs: switching between documentary footage and a host, adding live commentary, showing a webcam or capture-card feed, mixing external audio, or assembling custom scenes. YouTube identifies encoder streaming as useful for screen sharing, external audio/video hardware, and advanced productions. YouTube Help: Go live with an encoder
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →OBS is an encoder on your computer, not a cloud host for a playlist. Your machine must render the chosen resolution and frame rate, encode the output, and send it over a sufficiently stable connection. The OBS system-requirements page cautions that a compatible system does not necessarily have enough capacity for a particular streaming or recording workload. That page is dated August 25, 2021, so check it for current compatibility details rather than treating it as a complete modern hardware prescription. OBS Project: System Requirements
A “streaming PC” is therefore a workload decision, not a universal shopping specification. Required capacity depends on resolution, frame rate, encoder choice, scene complexity, and what else the computer is doing. No specific hardware spec can be recommended without those details.

Set up OBS for a YouTube stream
YouTube supports encoder-based live streaming. Exact OBS labels can vary by version, and YouTube’s stream setup can vary with account status and interface changes; follow the current live control room prompts if a label differs.
- Enable and prepare YouTube Live. In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go live and complete any account or channel eligibility steps YouTube presents. Create or select the scheduled stream in the live control room and obtain its stream key. Keep the key private: anyone who has it may be able to send video to your stream.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS, open Settings → Stream. Choose YouTube if it is offered as a service and connect or enter the stream key using the available workflow. If using a custom server workflow, use the server URL and key supplied by YouTube; do not guess either value.
- Configure the production. Add and arrange the required sources in OBS, such as media, microphone, camera, or capture input. In Settings → Video and Settings → Output, choose a resolution, frame rate, encoder, and bitrate that your hardware and sustained upload connection can handle. The sources cited here do not establish one universally correct bitrate or resolution, so use YouTube’s current encoder guidance and test your own setup rather than copying a number without regard to the stream format.
- Check reconnection behavior. In OBS’s advanced settings, review the automatic reconnect option and its retry settings for your installed version. Reconnect can help after a temporary interruption; it cannot keep a powered-off computer, failed router, or exhausted connection online.
- Test before the public broadcast. OBS recommends testing the configuration and available resources before going live. Check audio levels, scene transitions, dropped frames, and the YouTube preview using a private or unlisted test where appropriate. Confirm that the intended video and audio are actually reaching YouTube before promoting a public stream.
- Start and monitor. Start streaming in OBS and verify the incoming feed in YouTube Studio. Keep OBS and the computer running for the duration, and monitor for connection warnings, dropped frames, encoder overload, or source failures.
Copyright and channel-policy checks for documentary loops
Having permission to upload a documentary does not automatically mean every part is cleared for a public livestream. Verify rights for the full program and all embedded material, including music, archival footage, still images, narration, and clips. A video that can be watched on demand may still trigger a live-stream claim or restriction. Use YouTube’s current copyright guidance and resolve claims or permissions before scheduling a long-running loop.
Also consider whether a channel built around repeated prerecorded streams complies with YouTube’s current monetization and reused-content policies. A technically continuous stream is not a guarantee of monetization eligibility. Make sure the channel contributes original value and that each work is authorized; check YouTube’s current policies before relying on revenue or treating repetition as a substitute for editorial contribution.

Troubleshoot interruptions and poor stream quality
OBS shows dropped frames
OBS says dropped frames can mean the connection to the remote server is unstable or the configured bitrate is beyond what the connection can sustain. Lower the bitrate, test sustained upload capacity, and investigate Wi-Fi, router, ISP, or route instability. The OBS troubleshooting article was last updated September 30, 2024. OBS Project: Stream Connection Troubleshooting
The video stutters or OBS struggles to encode
Reduce workload: lower output resolution or frame rate, simplify scenes and filters, close unnecessary applications, or try a suitable encoder available on your system. A computer can meet baseline requirements and still fail under a demanding combination of encoding settings and production sources; test the actual scene and stream configuration.
YouTube does not receive the stream
Check that the correct YouTube event and stream key are selected, that the key has not been reset, and that OBS is connected to the intended service or server. Re-enter the current key through OBS’s stream settings if needed, then verify the preview in YouTube Studio. Do not publish or share a stream key.

A OneStream 24/7 broadcast stops at its scheduled end
The documented maximum for one scheduled stream is 30 days. Schedule a new stream to continue, and confirm the account’s current feature eligibility and timing requirements with OneStream.
A OneStream plan or add-on does not show the expected option
The Help Center’s Enterprise requirement and the pricing page’s add-on listing do not, by themselves, settle which accounts qualify. Ask OneStream to confirm the applicable plan, add-on, and recurring total for the specific account before relying on the workflow.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a prerecorded YouTube loop, StreamNeo keeps the stream running from uploaded videos in the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home. The uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; StreamNeo does not re-encode it. If YouTube drops the stream, StreamNeo automatically recovers. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. It streams to YouTube only and is for uploaded videos, not a live camera production. See StreamNeo or start your free first day.
