John Ramsey’s renewed confidence that his daughter’s murder can be solved is his personal belief—not an announcement from investigators. The phrase echoes what he said publicly in May 1997, months after six-year-old JonBenét was killed in 1996: “And it will be solved.” In later coverage, he tied that hope to law enforcement accepting outside help, including genetic genealogy.
What did John Ramsey say about solving the case?
At a May 1, 1997, press conference, John Ramsey said experts he had consulted and people brought in by the Boulder district attorney’s office had described the crime as solvable. He then concluded: “And it will be solved.” The press-conference transcript records the full statement. A contemporaneous Los Angeles Times report the next day quoted him saying, “This is a solvable crime, and it will be solved.”
That earlier declaration and his later remarks are related, but they are not the same statement. In later PEOPLE coverage syndicated by Yahoo News, Ramsey said: “If they accept help, all the help that’s out there, that’s available and offered, it will be solved. Yes, I believe it will be solved.” His confidence is conditional on investigators accepting help and reflects his view as JonBenét’s father; it is not an official forecast. The syndicated coverage reports his remarks.
Is the JonBenét Ramsey case solved?
No charge or resolution is reported in the sources available here. A January 29, 2025, CNN transcript said no one had been charged as of that coverage. That is a dated status report, not confirmation of the case’s status on every later date. The transcript does not establish that investigators adopted Ramsey’s proposals or that a suspect was identified.

A 2022 update attributed to the Boulder Police Department and Boulder County District Attorney’s Office described the scale of the investigation: more than 21,000 tips, letters, and emails; contact with more than 1,000 individuals; and interviews or conversations spanning 19 states. Those are historical figures from that update, not current totals. The update is reproduced on a community forum, rather than the agencies’ original page, so its provenance should be kept in view.
What DNA testing does John Ramsey want?
In its January 29, 2025, transcript, CNN reported that Ramsey was advocating genetic genealogy as a possible investigative avenue. The method can, in general, use DNA evidence to identify possible relatives through genealogy databases, but the transcript establishes only that Ramsey advocated for it. It does not show that investigators used the method in this case, that suitable evidence was tested, or that it produced a result. Read the CNN transcript for the dated report.
