For a OneStream Live 24/7 YouTube playlist, start with a 1080p, 30 fps H.264 video with AAC audio and a video bitrate of 1,500–6,000 Kbps. Those are OneStream’s recommended settings for the uploaded source video—not YouTube’s settings for a live encoder sending a feed directly to YouTube. The distinction matters: YouTube recommends 10 Mbps for a direct H.264 1080p30 encoder stream, but that figure is not automatically the right bitrate for a file OneStream plays from its service.
First, identify which stream you are configuring
OneStream’s 24/7 workflow plays uploaded or stored videos as a scheduled YouTube broadcast. You select the source videos, connect a YouTube channel, enter stream details, and schedule playback. In this managed-playback path, the key video settings are those of the source file you provide to OneStream.
A local encoder workflow is different: software or hardware sends a live encoded feed to YouTube. YouTube’s encoder recommendations—including its bitrate table, constant bitrate (CBR), keyframe interval, and transport guidance—apply to that direct ingest workflow. Do not treat the two sets of recommendations as conflicting versions of the same setting.
Recommended source-video settings for OneStream
OneStream’s general video guide recommends the following settings for a pre-recorded video. It does not specify a separate bitrate profile just for 24/7 playback.
#1 Best Overall

OneStream says videos should be at least one minute long for the best streaming experience. These are the service’s recommendations for the media file; they are not a claim that every video must use exactly these values. See OneStream’s recommended video settings.
What resolution is best for a 24/7 YouTube stream?
For the OneStream source-video workflow, 1080p at 30 fps is the documented general recommendation. It is a practical starting point for a documentary channel whose source material is available at that quality. A higher-resolution file is not automatically better if it requires unnecessary storage or makes preparation harder; the available OneStream guidance does not establish a special 24/7 advantage for a different resolution.

YouTube’s live encoder table covers more output combinations. The following are YouTube’s H.264 bitrate recommendations for a direct encoder-to-YouTube stream, not OneStream source-file requirements:
| Resolution and frame rate | YouTube H.264 encoder bitrate recommendation |
|---|---|
| 720p30 | 4 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 12 Mbps |
| 1440p30 | 15 Mbps |
| 1440p60 | 24 Mbps |
| 2160p30 | 30 Mbps |
| 2160p60 | 35 Mbps |
YouTube also lists ranges for AV1 and H.265/HEVC encoder streams rather than the same H.264 recommended column: at 1080p30, 3–8 Mbps; 1080p60, 4–10 Mbps; 1440p30, 5–25 Mbps; 1440p60, 6–30 Mbps; 2160p30, 8–35 Mbps; and 2160p60, 10–40 Mbps. Consult YouTube’s live encoder settings and bitrate guidance for the applicable codec and output format.

Direct encoder settings: only if you are sending an encoded feed
If your workflow uses a local encoder rather than OneStream’s stored-video playback, YouTube’s current guidance specifies RTMP or RTMPS transport, H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 video, and up to 60 fps. For an H.264 feed, use CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval; YouTube says the interval should not exceed 4 seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. Supported audio codecs include AAC and MP3, with stereo audio bitrate guidance of 128 Kbps.
These are encoder-ingest settings. They do not mean you must re-encode a video uploaded to OneStream using a 10 Mbps bitrate or manually apply an encoder keyframe interval to its stored-file workflow.

Set up OneStream’s 24/7 YouTube playlist
- Prepare the videos using OneStream’s source-file guidance above. You can select videos from your device, OneStream storage, or supported cloud storage.
- In OneStream, choose “24-hour Stream” and add the videos for the playlist.
- Connect the YouTube channel that will receive the broadcast.
- Enter the stream details, then choose to start immediately or schedule a start.
- Set the duration in days and schedule the broadcast. OneStream’s help article states a maximum scheduled period of 30 days.
OneStream documents this 24/7 feature for YouTube destinations only and says it requires an Enterprise plan. Check its 24/7 streaming setup guide for the current workflow and account requirements.

For a direct encoder stream, choose a bitrate your connection can sustain consistently. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom for other traffic and using a reliable network. Test before going live with representative motion and audio, then monitor YouTube’s stream health and any messages while the broadcast is running. These precautions can reduce avoidable congestion risk, but they do not guarantee uninterrupted service.

YouTube automatically transcodes incoming live streams into formats suited to different devices and network conditions. That does not remove the need to provide a stable feed from a local encoder. For OneStream’s managed pre-recorded workflow, these local upload-bandwidth considerations are not a reason to apply YouTube’s direct-encoder bitrate table to the stored source file.
Copyright and suitability of documentary footage
Having a file that meets video settings does not by itself establish that you have the right to broadcast its contents. Before scheduling a documentary playlist, verify that you have the necessary rights for the footage, music, narration, and other material, and review YouTube’s applicable copyright and live-stream rules. A technical bitrate recommendation is not a copyright clearance or a guarantee that YouTube will keep a stream available.
Common setting and setup problems
- Confusing 6 Mbps with YouTube’s 10 Mbps recommendation: OneStream’s 1,500–6,000 Kbps range is guidance for an uploaded source video; 10 Mbps is YouTube’s H.264 recommendation for direct 1080p30 encoder ingest. Choose the figure for the workflow you are actually using.
- Trying to schedule a 24/7 broadcast without the required plan or destination: OneStream documents 24/7 streaming as an Enterprise feature for YouTube destinations. Confirm the account and channel meet those requirements.
- Trying to schedule beyond the supported period: OneStream’s guide states a maximum duration of 30 days. Set the scheduled duration within that limit.
- Local encoder stream shows health warnings or drops quality: Check whether the upload connection can sustain the selected bitrate, preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% bandwidth headroom, verify the encoder settings, and test again with representative content.
- Unstable local connection: YouTube recommends a reliable network. For a local encoder, consider a wired connection and reduce the output bitrate or resolution if the available upload capacity cannot sustain the current settings.
