Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFor a 24/7 lofi stream, choose 720p at 30 fps with H.264 and an 8 Mbps video bitrate if your upload connection can sustain it. Choose 1080p at 30 fps with H.264 and 14 Mbps if you want more visual detail and have enough stable upload capacity. YouTube lists 3 Mbps and 5 Mbps, respectively, as the minimum H.264 rates for those settings—not its recommended rates.
Use CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and stereo AAC or MP3 audio at 128 kbps. Test the actual video and audio before going live and monitor YouTube’s stream health. For a 24/7 broadcast, also plan for the fact that YouTube may not archive streams longer than 12 hours.
Choose 720p or 1080p based on stable upload capacity
YouTube’s live-encoder guidance gives different H.264 bitrate figures by resolution and frame rate. At 30 fps, its recommended settings are 8 Mbps for 720p and 14 Mbps for 1080p. The lower figures in the table are minimums, not recommended targets.
| H.264 input setting | YouTube minimum video bitrate | YouTube recommended video bitrate | When it makes sense |
|---|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps | Choose this when lower bandwidth demand matters more than fine visual detail. |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps | Choose this when the artwork or animation benefits from more detail and your connection can sustain the higher rate. |
| 720p at 60 fps | Not stated here | 8 Mbps | YouTube’s listed H.264 recommended rate; 60 fps is usually unnecessary for a mostly static lofi scene. |
| 1080p at 60 fps | Not stated here | 17 Mbps | YouTube’s listed H.264 recommended rate; use only when the visual motion justifies the extra upload demand. |
The table reflects YouTube’s H.264 live-ingestion guidance accessed in 2026. Its bitrate recommendation depends on codec, resolution, and frame rate. For a mostly static lofi scene, 30 fps is a practical starting choice, not a YouTube rule specific to lofi. YouTube transcodes incoming live video into different formats for viewers, so your encoder’s input resolution does not guarantee that every viewer will see that exact resolution.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Do not treat the minimum as a reliability target
A stream set at the listed minimum may be able to send video, but YouTube’s table does not say that the minimum is ideal for image quality or long-term stability. Start with the recommended rate if your upload connection can support it consistently. If it cannot, reduce the resolution or frame rate rather than relying on a peak speed test result.
Set the encoder’s video and audio options
YouTube supports RTMP or RTMPS ingestion and lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 as video codecs. The rate figures above are specifically for H.264. For a straightforward setup, use H.264 unless your encoder and workflow are already configured for another supported codec.

- Transport: RTMP or RTMPS, using the ingest option available in your encoder and YouTube setup.
YouTube recommends automatic resolution and frame-rate detection by default. If you need to force a particular input resolution, use a custom stream key and enable manual settings in Stream Resolution. The exact encoder controls vary by software, so match the options above to the labels in your encoder rather than assuming every app uses identical menus.
Check your upload connection before committing to a setting
- Run an upload speed test on the connection that will carry the broadcast. A result from a different network or time of day may not reflect the stream’s real conditions.
- Compare sustainable upload capacity with total stream bitrate. YouTube advises that the stream’s total bitrate must not exceed available upload bandwidth. Because a 24/7 stream must tolerate fluctuations, leave headroom instead of treating the test’s peak result as a safe constant.
- Start with the video rate you intend to use—8 Mbps for 720p30 or 14 Mbps for 1080p30 with H.264—then account for audio and any other stream traffic when evaluating total demand.
- Test with the real broadcast content. Include representative audio and movement, not merely a blank test scene, and check YouTube’s stream-health status for warnings before relying on the setup continuously.
A higher resolution can show more detail, but it also calls for a higher recommended H.264 bitrate. If your connection fluctuates near the required total rate, 720p30 is the more conservative choice. That is a bandwidth-and-continuity trade-off, not a claim that YouTube rates lofi visuals differently.

Use the correct YouTube stream key and test privately first
- Prepare the YouTube live stream in YouTube Studio and select the appropriate stream configuration. Follow YouTube’s current live-stream setup prompts for the channel and broadcast.
- Copy the stream key into your encoder. Treat it as a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a stream to that destination. Do not post it in public or include it in a screenshot.
- Set resolution behavior. Leave automatic detection enabled unless you need a fixed input. To force one, use a custom stream key and enable manual settings in Stream Resolution.
- Run a preflight broadcast or test with the intended bitrate, resolution, keyframe interval, and complete audio/video content. Confirm the picture, audio levels, and YouTube stream-health indicators before scheduling or making the broadcast public.
- Monitor the live stream. Review YouTube’s health warnings and respond to sustained instability by reducing the input demand or fixing the connection, rather than assuming the encoder setting alone will solve it.
Plan for the 24/7 archive and copyright constraints
A bitrate or resolution setting does not change YouTube’s duration-related live-stream limitations. YouTube notes that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an archive, and DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams beyond 12 hours. If retaining a recording matters, make a local recording as a backup and verify that your storage can accommodate the intended duration.
Before looping music, artwork, or video for an extended broadcast, confirm that you have the rights and permissions needed to use each item on YouTube. A technically healthy stream does not establish that its music or visuals are cleared, nor does it guarantee monetization eligibility. YouTube’s reused-content and copyright decisions are separate from encoder bitrate and resolution.

Troubleshoot the common bitrate and resolution problems
| Symptom | Likely issue | What to check or change |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube reports unstable or poor stream health | The connection may not sustain the stream’s total bitrate, or upload capacity may fluctuate. | Check available upload capacity during the actual broadcast. Leave more headroom by lowering resolution or bitrate; avoid relying on the speed test’s peak result. |
| The stream runs but the image looks soft or blocky | The selected bitrate may be too low for the resolution and content, or the source itself may lack detail. | Compare the setting with YouTube’s recommended H.264 rate for that resolution and frame rate. Test the actual source video and consider 1080p only if the connection can carry its higher rate. |
| The encoder sends a different resolution than intended | Automatic resolution detection may be active, or the encoder’s output dimensions may not match the selected setting. | Check the encoder’s output settings. If YouTube needs a forced resolution, use a custom stream key and enable manual settings in Stream Resolution. |
| Motion looks uneven or the stream uses more bandwidth than needed | The frame rate may be higher than the mostly static scene requires. | Try 30 fps for a largely static lofi visual; YouTube’s recommended H.264 rate rises at 60 fps. |
| The archive is missing or viewers cannot rewind far back | The live broadcast exceeded 12 hours, where YouTube says archiving may not occur and DVR may be limited or unavailable. | Keep a local recording if an archive matters, and do not rely on YouTube’s live archive as the only copy of a continuous broadcast. |
