For a prerecorded playlist streamed from OBS to YouTube, start with RTMPS, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and a bitrate matched to your resolution and frame rate. Keep the frame rate at or below 60 fps. On an AMD system, select OBS’s AMD AMF encoder only if your GPU and current driver expose it, then test the complete stream before relying on it unattended. These settings meet YouTube’s published ingest guidance; they do not guarantee a stable 24/7 stream.

Recommended OBS AMD settings for YouTube

Use YouTube’s ingest requirements as the baseline, then confirm that your particular OBS version, AMD GPU, and driver offer the controls you need. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted ingest. The bitrate values below are YouTube’s H.264 recommendations, not a promise that your connection or encoder can sustain them.

Setting Starting point
Service and protocol YouTube Live over RTMPS
Video encoder AMD AMF, if available for your GPU and driver
Video codec H.264 for the bitrate examples below. YouTube also lists H.265/HEVC and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS; confirm your hardware, OBS build, and ingest path support your chosen codec.
Rate control CBR
Keyframe interval 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds
Frame rate Up to 60 fps
Audio codec AAC or MP3; YouTube’s stereo guidance is 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps
SDR color Rec. 709, 8-bit
Other video guidance Square pixels, progressive scan, two B-frames, one reference frame, and CABAC, where the encoder exposes these controls

H.264 bitrate by resolution and frame rate

YouTube’s current help page, accessed in 2026, recommends the following H.264 ingest bitrates:

Output Recommended bitrate
720p30 8 Mbps
720p60 8 Mbps
1080p30 14 Mbps
1080p60 17 Mbps
1440p30 21 Mbps
1440p60 34 Mbps

Choose a bitrate your upload connection can sustain consistently, not merely one it reaches in a brief speed test. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate and testing with audio and movement similar to the planned stream. If your connection cannot reliably support the recommended figure, lower the output resolution or frame rate and retest rather than assuming a higher setting will look better in practice.

Set up AMD AMF in OBS

OBS documents AMD Advanced Media Framework (AMF) support on Windows and Linux and advises using current GPU drivers. Whether AMF appears, and which options it exposes, depends on the hardware and software combination. OBS’s linked AMD encoder wiki is archived and its hardware page was edited in 2019, so it is historical reference material rather than a current, exhaustive compatibility or buying guide.

  1. Update the AMD graphics driver, then open OBS and check the available encoder choices in the output settings. If AMD AMF is not listed, verify GPU and driver compatibility; do not assume every AMD GPU or OBS installation exposes the same encoder.
  2. In OBS, open Settings > Output. If Output Mode is set to Simple, switch to Advanced so the streaming encoder controls are available.
  3. Under the streaming output settings, select the available AMD AMF encoder and set rate control to CBR. OBS labels can vary by version and encoder implementation; use the corresponding control exposed by your installation.
  4. Set the video bitrate from YouTube’s H.264 table above if you are using H.264. Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds.
  5. Under Settings > Video, choose the output resolution and frame rate you intend to stream. Keep the frame rate at or below 60 fps and use the matching bitrate recommendation.
  6. Set audio to AAC or MP3. For stereo, YouTube’s guidance is 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps. For SDR, use Rec. 709 and 8-bit color. Apply the additional platform guidance—square pixels, progressive scan, two B-frames, one reference frame, and CABAC—only where your AMF controls make those settings available.
  7. In YouTube Live Control Room, select the intended stream settings and copy the stream key into OBS’s stream configuration. Treat the key as a password: do not publish or share it. YouTube supports reusable stream settings and custom keys; use the matching key for the event you intend to send.
  8. Start a test stream well before relying on the playlist. Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health, confirm the event is accessible from a viewer endpoint, and verify audio and video throughout the test.

There is no established universal best AMF preset or rate-control option for every GPU, driver, OBS build, resolution, and playlist workload. Keep the settings that your own test stream validates instead of assuming a named preset is optimal.

Prepare OBS and YouTube for a continuous playlist

A stable encoder setup is only one part of an always-on stream. OBS on a local computer depends on that computer, its power, network connection, and the running playlist remaining available. YouTube recommends preparing the encoder ahead of an event, starting it before the planned start, checking the preview, and continuously monitoring audio and video quality.

  • Check the playlist end to end: confirm the intended videos and audio play in order and that the transition or loop behavior is what you expect.
  • Monitor the live event: keep the Live Control Room stream-health messages and a viewer endpoint available. Watch for connection interruptions, missing audio, or a stalled picture.
  • Use stream controls deliberately: YouTube’s auto-start and auto-stop settings manage event behavior; they do not replace monitoring or a recovery plan.
  • Test a backup path if configured: YouTube recommends testing encoder failover where you have set one up.
  • Check any local recording: if you rely on an archive, make sure storage is sufficient and monitor that the local archive file continues growing and remains intact.

These checks reduce avoidable surprises but cannot guarantee uninterrupted service. The sources do not establish a universal 24/7 uptime figure for AMD AMF or a particular OBS setup.

Common problems and fixes

Symptom Likely cause What to check
AMD AMF is missing from OBS The installed GPU, driver, operating system, or OBS build may not expose AMF. Update the GPU driver and check OBS’s AMD AMF support information for your platform. Compatibility varies; an archived hardware list is not a current exhaustive matrix.
YouTube reports poor stream health or the stream disconnects The selected bitrate may exceed stable upload capacity, or the connection may fluctuate. Run an upload speed test, reduce bitrate by choosing a lower output resolution or frame rate if needed, and repeat a representative test.
Video arrives but audio is absent or wrong Audio encoding or routing may not match the intended output. Confirm OBS is sending the correct audio source and that the output uses AAC or MP3; check stereo sampling and bitrate against YouTube’s guidance.
The stream starts with an unexpected event or fails to start The selected stream key, reusable settings, or auto-start/auto-stop behavior may not match the intended event. Verify the key in OBS matches the Live Control Room event and review the event’s stream-management controls.
The stream stops when nobody is watching or after a local interruption A local OBS workflow still depends on the computer and connection running; YouTube event controls are not an automatic recovery guarantee. Monitor the stream and test configured failover. For prerecorded playlists that must continue without a local computer, consider a cloud workflow.

Copyright and YouTube policy checks for playlist streams

Before looping documentaries, music, or other recordings, make sure you have the necessary rights to stream each item. A video being available online does not by itself grant permission to rebroadcast it. Review YouTube’s current copyright and monetization policies for your channel and content, and resolve rights concerns before leaving a playlist unattended. A copyright claim or other platform action can affect a live stream; encoder settings cannot prevent that.

Or let it run in the cloud

If the goal is a prerecorded YouTube playlist that stays live when your computer is off, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, not a live camera feed, so nothing has to stay on at home. It supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers, and can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream.
