Sean “Diddy” Combs was sentenced to 50 months in federal prison—four years and two months—on October 3, 2025. A jury convicted him on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution under the Mann Act and acquitted him of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. The sentence is not the same as the ten-year statutory maximum on each count, and it does not by itself establish a release date.
What Combs was convicted of—and what the jury rejected
The jury found Combs guilty on two counts of transporting people to engage in prostitution, offenses under the federal Mann Act. It acquitted him of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. Those verdicts are distinct: allegations associated with the acquitted charges should not be described as convictions.
The Associated Press reported that each transportation count carried a maximum penalty of ten years in prison. That is the statutory ceiling for each count, not the punishment the judge ultimately imposed. Associated Press sentencing coverage
How the sentence compared with the requests and guideline range
At sentencing, the reported advisory guideline range was 70 to 87 months. Prosecutors asked for 135 months, while the defense asked for no more than 14 months. Judge Arun Subramanian imposed 50 months, below the reported guideline range and prosecution request, but above the defense request. These figures describe different things: a guideline calculation, the parties’ positions, and the court’s sentence.

Why 50 months does not give an exact release date
A 50-month sentence states the term imposed; it is not a verified projected release date or a calculation of how much time remains. The sentence length alone does not account for custody credit or sentence administration. The materials available for this article do not establish a current Bureau of Prisons release projection, so an exact date should not be inferred by simply adding 50 months to the sentencing date.

What the appeal could mean
Combs appealed his conviction and sentence. At oral argument on April 9, 2026, appellate judges questioned whether the 50-month term was too harsh; the government argued that it was below the guideline range and consistent with similar cases. Questions from judges during argument are not a decision, and the information available here does not establish a later appellate disposition.
