Use the latest stable OBS Studio release listed on the official OBS download page, not a beta or release candidate, and test your exact playlist and streaming setup before relying on it for a long run. As of October 3, 2026, OBS listed version 32.2.2, dated August 14, as its latest release. That is a current-version recommendation—not evidence that any OBS version guarantees uninterrupted streaming on every computer, network, or playlist.
What “stable” means for a long-running stream
The available official information does not establish an empirically “most stable” OBS version for every long-running YouTube playlist stream. Release recency alone is not a reliability ranking: your operating system, encoder, drivers, plugins, media files, network, and stream duration all affect the result. The practical choice is the latest stable release that is compatible with your setup, followed by a representative test.
OBS’s June 23, 2026 announcement for the 32.2 beta described it as a test build that may contain bugs or broken functionality. It recommended the latest stable build for production use. Check the current download page before installing, because release status can change.
Check compatibility before updating
NVIDIA NVENC users
OBS’s 32.2 release notes, dated July 21, 2026, say the NVIDIA SDK was updated to version 13 and the minimum supported driver version is 570 for NVENC users. Treat this as a version-specific requirement for that encoder path, not a requirement for every OBS user. Review the release notes for your operating system and encoder before updating.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
VLC and plugins
If your playlist uses OBS’s VLC Video source, VLC must be installed, and its architecture must match OBS: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. Also check whether any plugins you rely on support the OBS version you plan to install. OBS’s documentation identifies VLC Video as its playlist source; Loop Playlist is enabled by default, while Shuffle Playlist is disabled by default.
Set up and test a VLC playlist in OBS
- Install compatible software. Install the current stable OBS release from the official download page. Install VLC in the same architecture as OBS if you intend to use VLC Video.
- Add the playlist source. In the scene you plan to stream, add a VLC Video source and select the video files for the playlist.
- Verify playback behavior. Confirm Loop Playlist is enabled if the playlist should repeat. Leave Shuffle Playlist off if you need files to play in order.
- Configure the stream. Select the intended YouTube stream destination and encoder settings in OBS, then confirm your scene and audio behave as expected. The OBS material cited here does not prescribe YouTube-specific bitrate or keyframe values, so consult YouTube’s current guidance for those settings rather than applying an unsupported universal value.
- Test the whole chain. Run a representative test stream long enough to check playlist transitions, audio, performance, and network behavior. OBS recommends testing stream settings, scenes, and performance before going live.
- Review recovery behavior. OBS supports configuring automatic reconnect in its Advanced settings. Set it up and observe what happens in a test; the documented feature is not a guarantee that every interruption will preserve the broadcast or playlist state.
What the release history can—and cannot—tell you
OBS 29.1 included a fix for a media-source crash involving a video source whose resolution changes frequently, such as a VLC playlist, and a separate fix for a crash involving streams in the media source. Those historical fixes show that source-related problems have been addressed in releases. They do not establish a current crash rate or prove that a particular version will remain stable for your files and hardware.

There is no cited controlled comparison of current OBS releases for multi-hour or multi-day YouTube playlist streams, and no official guarantee for the combined application, operating system, hardware, network, and media-source chain. Treat a test using your actual scene and playlist as essential rather than assuming a version number can settle the question.
Troubleshoot before the scheduled stream
- VLC Video is unavailable: Check that VLC is installed and that OBS and VLC have matching architectures.
- The playlist stops at the end: Open the VLC Video source properties and check Loop Playlist.
- Files play in an unexpected order: Check whether Shuffle Playlist is enabled.
- OBS reports an NVENC or driver compatibility issue: If using the NVIDIA NVENC path with OBS 32.2, check the release-note requirement for driver version 570 or newer. Do not apply that requirement to other encoders.
- The stream disconnects: Review automatic reconnect in Advanced settings, then test the behavior. Reconnect support does not ensure that every broadcast resumes without interruption.
- A source crashes or behaves differently after an update: Recheck plugin and VLC compatibility, inspect the release notes for relevant fixes, and reproduce the problem in a test scene before relying on the setup for a long run.
