Choose the setup that fits your stream

If you need several people visible simultaneously, Go live together is not the right layout: use an encoder workflow and verify that your chosen software supports the number of remote guests and scene arrangement you need.
Invite one guest with Go live together
You can schedule the broadcast on desktop in Live Control Room and then start it from a phone, or start immediately in the YouTube mobile app. YouTube describes guests as people with a YouTube channel; the host must be an eligible creator, but the feature-specific eligibility checklist is not fully stated on the help page. - Prepare the broadcast. In the YouTube mobile app, tap Create, then Live. Edit the video and broadcast settings. For a scheduled stream, arrange it in Live Control Room on a computer first.
- Enable the guest feature. Turn on Go live together, enter the stream details, and choose the option to invite a co-streamer.
- Send the invitation. Share the invite link by text, email, or a messaging service. Ask the guest to open it on a mobile device and join the waiting room.
- Check the guest before starting. Confirm their audio and video while they wait. If the link does not open in the messaging app, YouTube suggests resending it by email or text.
- Add the guest and go live. When they are in the waiting room and you are ready, select Add, then start the stream.
- Manage the broadcast. You can rotate guests, but YouTube displays one guest at a time. The host can view stream analytics; the guest cannot. The host also has moderation controls and can remove the co-streamer. [YouTube Help]
Use an encoder for a multi-person production
An encoder workflow suits productions that need several cameras or microphones, screen sharing, gameplay capture, overlays, or a layout that keeps multiple contributors visible together. YouTube says encoders can use external audio and video hardware and manage advanced productions. Its verified-encoder directory names software with remote-guest features, including Cinamaker Director Studio (via Zoom), Ecamm, and Restream. Check each product’s current features, compatibility, and terms directly; the directory does not establish that every product supports the same guest count or configuration. [YouTube Help]

- Confirm access and choose the production software. Verify that your channel can livestream. Select an encoder that supports your cameras, microphones, guest connections, and scene layout; confirm its current requirements directly with the provider.
- Create the event in Live Control Room. Set up the stream in advance so you can check its details and preview before the event. YouTube recommends setting up an encoder stream at least two hours before the event. [YouTube Help]
- Build and test the scene. Add the cameras, guest feeds, screen sources, and overlays you need. Route each microphone to the correct audio source and check that participants can be heard clearly without unintended duplicate audio.
- Check your connection. Add together the stream’s total bitrate and make sure your available upload capacity has headroom. YouTube recommends 20% spare upload bandwidth; other people or devices sharing the connection can reduce what is available to the stream. [YouTube Help]
- Start the encoder and preview. YouTube recommends starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start. Check the signal in Live Control Room, test audio and video, and monitor them during the stream. [YouTube Help]
- Verify access and fallback arrangements. Confirm viewers can access the event. If the production needs continuity, consider testing backup or failover arrangements before broadcast. [YouTube Help]
YouTube’s encoder guidance supports flexible hardware, but the sources do not prescribe a microphone model or a universal audio interface. For an in-person group, plan how each voice will be captured: that may mean a microphone per participant or a suitable multi-input audio setup, depending on the room, computer, phone, and interface or mixer.
Check channel eligibility and prepare guests
YouTube’s general livestream guidance says a channel must be verified, must not have had livestream restrictions in the past 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. YouTube lists mobile, webcam, encoder, and console as streaming methods. These are general livestream requirements; they do not fully explain the separate “eligible creators” wording on the Go live together page. - Check verification, live access, and age requirements before inviting guests.
- Tell every participant what will be broadcast and when. The host is responsible for the live content and should brief guests on YouTube’s terms, Community Guidelines, and copyright rules.
- For Go live together, send the invitation early enough to resolve mobile-device or link-opening problems.
- For an encoder production, test the complete scene and audio route before the event rather than relying on each person’s local preview.
Troubleshoot common problems
- The guest invitation will not open: Resend the link by email or text if the messaging app is interfering. Have the guest open it on a mobile device and join the waiting room. [YouTube Help]
- You expected several guests on screen: Go live together shows only one guest at a time. Rotate guests, or switch to an encoder workflow if simultaneous visibility is required. [YouTube Help]
- You cannot find or start the livestream feature: Check channel verification, whether the channel has a livestream restriction in the past 90 days, and the streamer’s age. Initial activation may take up to 24 hours. The Go live together page does not publish a complete eligibility checklist, so confirm feature availability in the account. [YouTube Help] [YouTube Help]
- The encoder preview is unstable or the stream struggles: Compare the stream’s total bitrate with available upload capacity, leaving the 20% spare bandwidth YouTube recommends. Check whether other users or devices are consuming the connection, then recheck the preview. [YouTube Help]
- A participant is missing or cannot be heard: Check the selected camera or guest source, microphone input, and scene routing in the encoder. Re-test in Live Control Room before going live; the exact controls depend on the encoder.
