Subscribe to the channel for more—thanks for watching!” The channel creator can pin their own message or a viewer’s message during a live stream or Premiere; only one message can be pinned at a time. Treat it as a visible reminder, not a proven way to increase subscriptions: YouTube documents how pinning works, but not its effect on conversion.
What a pinned message can—and cannot—do
A pinned message stays highlighted in Live Chat so viewers who open chat can notice your invitation. You can pin your own message or a viewer’s message, but only the creator can pin, and pinning another message replaces the current one. YouTube’s instructions are in Use Live Chat during your live stream or Premiere.
A pin is not a subscription button, and it does not establish that a viewer saw or acted on the message. YouTube’s official materials explain the feature but provide no conversion rate or controlled comparison of prompt wording. Keep expectations modest: the pin is a reminder for viewers who use Live Chat.
Write a prompt that fits YouTube Live Chat
Use brief, courteous plain text with one clear action. For example: “Enjoying the stream? Subscribe to the channel for more—thanks for watching!” This is an editorial example, not wording shown to perform better than alternatives.

- Keep the message within YouTube’s 200-character limit.
- Do not include a URL or HTML. YouTube’s Live Chat guidance also says special characters are not allowed.
- Name the action plainly—subscribe to the channel—rather than making a promise about what subscribing will do.
- Use wording that still makes sense while the stream is looping. Change it if the stream’s purpose or invitation changes.
These message limits and viewing notes appear in YouTube’s Learn about live streams guidance. Do not put a link in the pinned chat message; if you want to direct viewers elsewhere, use an appropriate YouTube channel or video feature instead.
Pin the message from the creator account
- Open the live stream or Premiere on YouTube while signed in as the channel creator.
- Open Live Chat and locate the message you want to pin. It can be one you posted or a viewer’s message.
- Open the message’s More menu and choose Pin.
- Check the chat to confirm the intended message is pinned. To change it, pin a different message; to remove it, choose Unpin.
Only the creator can perform the pin action. Moderators and viewers cannot pin messages. YouTube says, “To replace a pinned message, simply pin another message.” The pin instructions do not promise that a message remains pinned after a stream restart or interruption, so check it again when a new broadcast begins.

Keep the prompt useful on a continuous stream
- Choose one short invitation that matches the channel and stream.
- Pin it using the creator account and verify that the displayed text is current.
- Check the pinned message when you review the stream, especially after a restart or interruption.
- Replace it if the stream’s subject or subscription invitation changes.
There is no need to post the same invitation repeatedly. YouTube documents an allowance of up to 11 messages to chat every 30 seconds for viewers, but that is a message-rate limit, not a recommendation to repeat a creator’s call to action.
Check whether viewers can see or use Live Chat
Live Chat is available on YouTube watch pages, not embedded players. Viewers watching an embedded stream should not be assumed to see the pinned chat message. Some chat features may also be unavailable when a chat is set to subscribers-only; that does not mean the subscribe option itself disappears.

Chat availability and moderation settings can affect the experience. YouTube’s Moderate live chat guidance covers chat controls, moderation, and slow mode. Review those settings if chat is turned off or participation is restricted; changing them is an operational choice, not a proven way to increase subscriptions.
