Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →First find out whether the video is missing from FFmpeg’s output or only appears to be missing in YouTube playback. Then check the playlist format, file order, stream compatibility, and the duration and timestamps at the transition. There is no reliable one-flag fix without the FFmpeg command, playlist, and logs: a jump can begin in FFmpeg’s input timeline or downstream in YouTube ingest or playback.
Start by locating where the skip happens
Note which video is skipped and whether the jump happens at the same playlist transition each time. Compare FFmpeg’s output around that transition with what appears in the YouTube livestream. If the clip is absent or timestamps jump in FFmpeg’s output, investigate the playlist and media files. If FFmpeg’s output is continuous but YouTube playback jumps, check the stream’s ingest health and encoder settings.
Collect the information needed to diagnose it
- The full FFmpeg command and the playlist or manifest it reads.
- The FFmpeg version and log lines surrounding the transition.
ffprobeoutput for the file before the jump and the file after it. Compare stream count, codecs, time bases, frame rates, start times, and durations.- Whether the missing video is absent in FFmpeg’s own output or only in YouTube playback.
These details distinguish causes that can look identical to a viewer. Without them, selecting a timestamp flag or other command change would be guesswork.
Confirm which playlist format FFmpeg is reading
A text file used with FFmpeg’s concat demuxer and an HLS .m3u8 manifest are different inputs. Check the command and the file it opens before applying concat-specific advice; the concat demuxer’s rules do not diagnose an HLS manifest.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If it is a concat-demuxer script
- Verify that every entry is present, in the intended order, and points to a path FFmpeg can resolve.
- If you rely on automatic concat-script detection, the optional
ffconcat version 1.0line must be the exact first line. Do not put a byte-order mark, whitespace, or another line before it. - Check the log for file-open errors or a transition that differs from the script’s order.
The concat demuxer virtually joins packets and adjusts timestamps so each file follows the previous one. It expects corresponding files to have matching streams, including codecs and time bases. See the FFmpeg concat demuxer documentation.
Compare streams across the files
Use the ffprobe results to compare corresponding audio and video streams across the affected boundary. Look for changes in stream count, codec, time base, frame rate, or other encoding properties. A playlist can appear correctly ordered yet fail to behave as expected if its files do not meet the concat demuxer’s stream requirements.

Make files consistent when their properties differ
If the files have different stream layouts or encoding properties, normalize them to a common set of streams and properties before feeding them to the concat demuxer. For a static playlist, transcoding the files to consistent properties is one practical approach; it is not the only possible workflow in every case. In a 2024 mailing-list discussion about varied media, Oliver Fromme recommended transcoding a static playlist’s files to the same properties before using concat. That is practical advice for that case, not proof that every skipped video has this cause. See the FFmpeg-user discussion from September 22, 2024.
Check duration and timestamps at the jump
The concat demuxer uses each file’s duration to calculate the next file’s timestamps. FFmpeg warns that an incorrect duration—for example, one calculated from bitrate or affected by a truncated file—can cause artifacts. Inspect the duration and final packet or frame timestamps of the file immediately before the jump, then compare them with the first timestamps of the next file.

Override duration only when you have verified it
A duration directive can override a file’s stored duration in a concat script, but first establish the correct duration from the media and the boundary timestamps. An arbitrary override can move the problem rather than fix it. The demuxer’s timestamp behavior and duration warning are described in the FFmpeg documentation.
Separate FFmpeg output problems from YouTube ingest problems
Where possible, record or inspect FFmpeg’s output around the transition. If the intended clip is missing there, or the timestamps jump there, continue with the input list, stream compatibility, and duration checks. If FFmpeg’s output is continuous, review stream-health messages in YouTube Live Control Room and verify the encoder output instead.

YouTube’s current RTMP/RTMPS guidance lists H.264, H.265, or AV1 video and AAC or MP3 audio, recommends CBR, and recommends a two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. These are downstream ingest checks; they do not repair a malformed concat list or an inaccurate source duration. YouTube also advises testing with representative audio and video movement and monitoring stream health during the event. See YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance.

| Symptom | Check next |
|---|---|
| The same entry is skipped at the same point | Confirm the entry’s position and path in the playlist, then inspect FFmpeg logs and output at that boundary. |
| The jump follows files with different formats or stream layouts | Compare the files’ streams, codecs, and time bases; normalize incompatible files before concat. |
| The jump appears as a gap or overlap at a file boundary | Compare the preceding file’s actual end timestamps and duration with the next file’s start timestamps. |
| FFmpeg output is continuous but YouTube playback jumps | Check YouTube Live Control Room stream health and confirm the RTMP/RTMPS encoder settings. |
| FFmpeg does not recognize the playlist as expected | Confirm whether the input is a concat script or HLS manifest; for automatic concat-script detection, check the exact first line. |
