It can, but the charge usually comes from the service running your stream—not from YouTube simply because the stream stays live. A hosted streaming tool may charge a plan or usage fee; cloud infrastructure can bill for active resources and video delivery. The amount depends on the provider, setup, and billing model.
Who may charge you?
Separate the platform carrying the broadcast from the service keeping it running. A creator using a hosted tool may pay that tool. A creator assembling a cloud workflow may pay infrastructure providers for active encoding, packaging, and delivery resources. The reviewed official sources do not establish a general YouTube fee for using a separate cloud service to keep a prerecorded stream running.
- YouTube: Its encoder help page identifies a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded streams, but does not state that tool’s price or establish a general YouTube charge for the separate service.
- Hosted streaming tool: Check its current price, billing unit, and any limits; a fixed plan and usage-based billing are not interchangeable.
- Cloud infrastructure: Charges may accumulate while resources are running, and delivery to viewers can add a substantial component.
YouTube’s encoder help page describes Gyre as “A cloud-based tool for 24/7 live streaming of pre-recorded videos on YouTube.” That identifies a tool category, not a price or endorsement. YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Why a 24/7 cloud bill depends on the setup
Running resources may cost money even when idle
A continuously running service can remain billable even if it is not actively receiving or producing content. AWS says MediaLive channel charges continue while a channel is running, including when inputs are not receiving content and outputs are not being produced. Its cited on-demand terms specify a 10-minute minimum, then round duration up to the nearest minute. Those are MediaLive billing terms, not universal rules for cloud services. - Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Encoding settings affect infrastructure costs
For MediaLive, price depends on selected inputs, outputs, and add-ons; AWS also identifies codec, resolution, bitrate, and frame rate as pricing dimensions. A quote for one configuration therefore cannot be assumed to cover another. AWS MediaLive FAQs.
Viewer delivery can be a larger cost than encoding
AWS’s Live Streaming on AWS guide gives an illustrative estimate of approximately $69.74 for a one-hour live event with about 1,000 viewers in US East (N. Virginia), using an SD-540p profile. Its component estimates are $1.99 for MediaLive, $0.11 for MediaPackage ingest, $0.40 for MediaPackage packaging and origination, and $67.24 for CloudFront distribution. In that example, encoding and packaging total $2.50 while distribution is $67.24. This is an AWS scenario, not a monthly quote for one creator’s 24/7 YouTube stream; the guide says costs depend on the architecture and assumptions, and prices may change. Do not multiply the one-hour example into a monthly estimate without knowing the actual provider, audience, average bitrate, region, cache behavior, and service configuration. It illustrates how delivery can dominate one managed architecture’s bill; it is not a market-wide typical cost.
How to compare a service or estimate the bill
- Identify the biller. Is the offer a hosted prerecorded-stream tool, or are you paying for infrastructure services you configured yourself?
- Find the billing unit. Check whether charges are fixed by plan, per stream, based on resource runtime or usage, or a combination. Confirm whether viewer delivery is included or billed separately.
- Check what happens during idle time. Ask whether a running stream or resource remains chargeable during interruptions, while waiting for input, or when there are no viewers.
- Match the configuration. For infrastructure pricing, use the relevant inputs, outputs, codec, resolution, bitrate, frame rate, add-ons, and region—not just the label “24/7 stream.”
- Confirm current terms directly. YouTube’s page naming Gyre does not provide its plan price, price basis, or current terms. The AWS estimate is architecture-specific, and cloud prices may change.
No general published figure in the reviewed official sources establishes what a typical continuously running prerecorded YouTube stream costs. A provider’s current terms and your own delivery assumptions are necessary for a useful estimate.
