Pick an idea that fits your channel
Start with what your audience already expects from you: games, food, art, conversation or tutorials. Then add one seasonal hook and decide what viewers will do or anticipate. These ideas reflect themes Twitch is featuring for its October 2026 Stream-o-Ween event; adapt them to your platform and community.
Horror-game challenge
Play a horror game that already suits your channel. Let chat vote among choices you have approved in advance, or choose a harmless challenge for you to attempt. Tell viewers what kind of scares or intense material to expect, label the stream appropriately, and offer a way to opt out of participation without leaving the stream.
Costume reveal or party
Plan a reveal, invite collaborators, or host a themed costume party. A simple audience vote or prompt—such as choosing between two creator-approved costume details—gives viewers a role without letting chat dictate the whole show. Twitch’s October event examples include a costume party using Stream Together.

Spooky cooking
Make a visually distinctive seasonal dish and narrate the steps as you work. Prepare a few safe, practical choices for chat to vote on, such as a garnish or decoration, rather than improvising every decision live.
Makeup transformation or SFX demonstration
Show a Halloween makeup look from start to finish, explain the techniques, or demonstrate prosthetics and special-effects makeup. A Halloween SFX makeup kit is an optional fit for this format, not a requirement. Seasonal art session
Draw, craft or design a Halloween scene while viewers submit prompts. Screen suggestions before using them on air, and keep a few backup prompts ready in case submissions are unsuitable or slow.
Community horror discussion
Discuss scary films, books or games without rebroadcasting a movie, episode or soundtrack unless you have confirmed the necessary rights. Twitch’s Stream-o-Ween event runs October 1–31, 2026. Twitch says creators can stream in a relevant category and apply the Stream-o-Ween Event Tag for a chance to be featured. Twitch notes that appearing on its front-page shelf “might mean you experience more traffic than usual in your streams.” If you apply, prepare moderation for a possible increase rather than assuming one will happen.

For Stream-o-Ween, Twitch recommends AutoMod Level 2, email and phone chat verification, follower-only mode for at least 10 minutes, and setting up Shield Mode so it can be activated if needed. Twitch also recommends reviewing Content Classification Labels in Edit Stream Info. These are event-specific platform recommendations, not a guarantee against abuse or a substitute for your own moderation plan.

- Decide who will moderate and how you will signal them if chat needs attention.
- Set chat rules that suit the format, including boundaries for spoilers, personal attacks and viewer-submitted prompts.
- Review uncertain links, photos, videos and other viewer material privately before airing them. Twitch’s Community Guidelines point creators toward reviewing questionable content and using available creator and moderator safety tools.
- For intense games or SFX looks, tell viewers what to expect before the stream begins and use the relevant content labels.
Protect the stream from copyright interruptions
Do not assume a popular Halloween song, film or television episode is safe to play just because the stream is live or the content is available to you. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. If it detects matched content, it may replace the stream with a placeholder; if the content remains, YouTube says the stream may be interrupted or terminated. Even licensed third-party content can be interrupted if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID.
Twitch says streamers are responsible for having the rights to material they livestream or store. Prefer material you created, sources cleared for the platform and use in question, or a license you have verified for that exact use. Do not treat a familiar song, a film described as public domain, or a viewer’s suggestion as automatically cleared.
Plan what happens after the live show
Twitch says Stream Recaps are automatically created from clips made by the creator and editors. You can review or edit a recap in Creator Dashboard > Stream Summary. If you want a recap, capture clips during the stream rather than assuming every moment will be included.
