Azure Media Services is not an option for a new 24/7 YouTube stream: Microsoft retired it on June 30, 2024. Choose the replacement by the kind of devotional stream you want. For a continuous playlist of recorded sermons, readings, or bhajans, use a cloud playout service; for live worship from cameras or a mixer, use a YouTube-compatible encoder. StreamNeo is the first option to consider for uploaded-video loops: it runs from the cloud, supports uploads up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day.
Choose a workflow that matches your devotional content
A continuous YouTube stream can mean two different things. A live service sends camera or mixer output through an encoder. A prerecorded stream plays uploaded videos in a continuous playlist. The equipment, operating work, and service choice differ, so decide which one you need before migrating anything or buying hardware.
| What you want to stream | Best-fit approach | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Live worship, prayer, or a camera feed | YouTube encoder workflow using software or standalone hardware | Camera and mixer connections, an encoder, and someone or something to manage the live production. |
| A continuous loop of recorded devotionals | Cloud playout service designed for prerecorded-video streams | Playlist setup, current service limits and pricing, recovery behavior, and a separate archive plan. |
| An existing application or library built on Azure Media Services | A migration path selected for the assets, playback, DRM, region, and URLs involved | Asset migration and, for static migration, URL and player changes. |
| Broadcast-scale or multi-platform distribution | Evaluate managed live-streaming services against operational requirements | Redundancy, monitoring, security, latency, delivery scope, and cost. |
YouTube’s encoder directory describes software and standalone hardware encoder options, lists AWS Elemental MediaLive, and identifies Gyre as a cloud service for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming. These are different tools for different workflows, not interchangeable recommendations. Check current capabilities and pricing with each provider before committing.
Why Azure Media Services cannot run a new stream
Microsoft retired Azure Media Services on June 30, 2024. Its retirement guide says that after the date, Media Services stopped streaming on Azure Media Services accounts. Do not build a new YouTube workflow on AMS or assume an old account remains a working streaming host. If you have an existing AMS application or assets, treat this as a migration project rather than a new-channel setup.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If you are migrating existing media assets
Microsoft’s retirement guide names Bitmovin and MediaKind for public cloud customers, and Ravnur, including government-region specialization. Which path fits depends on your assets and requirements. Microsoft also describes static migration of existing assets; that route requires updating existing URLs and changing the player where Azure Media Player was used. Check the guide against your playback, DRM, regional, and URL needs before selecting a vendor.
If you are starting a new YouTube channel
Migration vendors are not automatically the simplest way to start a devotional live stream. For live camera production, begin with YouTube’s encoder workflow. For a loop of recorded videos, assess a purpose-built cloud playout service instead.

Option 1: Stream a live devotional service with an encoder
Use an encoder when YouTube must receive a live camera, microphone, or mixer feed. YouTube says an encoder can be software or standalone hardware; the right form depends on your production inputs and setup. You do not need to buy a hardware encoder simply because the stream is continuous: a software encoder may suit an existing computer and production workflow.
- Map the live signal. Identify the cameras, microphones, and mixer output that need to reach YouTube. Confirm how those sources connect to the encoder you plan to use.
- Choose the encoder type. Use software on a suitable computer or a standalone hardware encoder according to your inputs and production needs. YouTube’s verified encoder directory includes AWS Elemental MediaLive as a cloud processing option; it is not necessarily the simplest or lowest-cost fit for a small ministry.
- Set up the YouTube live stream. Follow YouTube’s current encoder setup flow and use the stream key associated with the intended broadcast. Keep the key private: anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to that stream.
- Test the complete path before the service. Confirm that video and audio reach YouTube as intended, and check the stream from a viewer’s perspective. Leave time to address source, connection, or encoder problems before the broadcast begins.
- Plan who responds if it stops. A live production has sources and encoding to monitor. Decide who will notice a failure and restart or repair the workflow.
The available source information does not establish a particular resolution, bitrate, or keyframe setting for this workflow. Use the current YouTube encoder guidance and the encoder’s instructions for settings rather than treating one set of values as universal.

Option 2: Run a continuous playlist of prerecorded devotionals
For recorded sermons, scripture readings, prayer, or devotional music, a cloud playout service can keep a playlist running without a dedicated local PC. YouTube’s encoder directory describes Gyre for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded YouTube videos. Verify its current feature limits, pricing, and archive behavior with the provider before choosing it.
- Prepare the videos. Make sure you have the right to stream each recording and that its audio and picture are ready for continuous playback.
- Choose a playout service. Compare playlist support, recovery and reconnect behavior, storage limits, current pricing, and how you will retain an archive. The directory’s description establishes Gyre’s prerecorded 24/7 use case, but does not establish its current limits or price.
- Connect the YouTube stream. Follow the selected service’s current instructions to add the channel’s stream key. Treat the key as a credential and do not publish or share it.
- Build and check the playlist. Arrange the videos in the intended order, confirm that the service can play the selected files, and review the stream in YouTube before relying on it continuously.
- Set a separate recording plan. Do not rely on a long YouTube stream as the only copy of a devotional archive. Save recordings locally or in another storage location you control.
Or let it run in the cloud
For prerecorded videos, StreamNeo is a direct alternative: upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so a computer, OBS, and your home connection do not have to stay on. It streams to YouTube only and does not broadcast a live camera feed.

Keep the stream and its archive separate
Continuous transmission does not guarantee that YouTube preserves the full broadcast. YouTube Help says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube recommends making a local recording as a backup. If preserving the full devotional service or playlist matters, record it separately rather than relying on YouTube’s automatic archive.
Copyright and reused content
Before streaming a recording, confirm that you have the rights needed for its music, performance, sermon, reading, and any other included material. A devotional purpose does not by itself establish permission. Review YouTube’s applicable copyright requirements and your own content permissions before putting a video into a continuous playlist.
How to compare alternatives without choosing the wrong tool
First decide whether you need live production or prerecorded playout. Then compare the operating responsibility and failure plan: who monitors the ingest, what happens after a component or connection fails, whether recovery is automatic, and how you learn that the stream has stopped. For archived material, account for a separate recording and retention workflow.
For a small ministry channel, a managed enterprise service should be justified by requirements, not by the fact that it supports continuous streaming. Akamai’s September 2025 Media Services Live 5 product brief describes continuous ingest, resilience to component failure, monitoring, distribution, and security as 24/7 concerns; it is vendor material and does not establish that its service is needed for a small YouTube channel. Its stated 4–6 second end-to-end latency is a claim about that product, not a general benchmark for YouTube streams.
Compare total cost using the actual service quote and your own operating needs. Include subscription or service charges, equipment, compute, data transfer, backup power, and staff time where relevant. Current comparable prices for Gyre, AWS Elemental MediaLive, or Akamai for a particular ministry’s runtime and audience are not established here, so there is no supported cost winner.
Quick Recap
Common problems and practical fixes
- The old AMS stream no longer works: AMS retired on June 30, 2024. Move the workflow to an appropriate encoder, prerecorded playout service, or migration path rather than trying to restore AMS as a current streaming host.
- A prerecorded playlist is not the right tool for a live service: Use an encoder workflow for camera or mixer output. A prerecorded-video playout service is designed for uploaded files, not a live camera feed.
- The stream stops and nobody notices: Decide who monitors the stream and what recovery steps they own. If continuous prerecorded playback is the requirement, assess a service’s reconnect and automatic-recovery behavior before selecting it.
- A long broadcast is missing from the archive: YouTube may not capture streams longer than 12 hours. Keep a separate local recording when preservation matters.
- An AMS migration breaks playback: If using Microsoft’s static migration route, account for URL updates and a player change where Azure Media Player was used. Confirm asset, DRM, region, and playback requirements with the chosen migration option.
- A devotional video raises a rights concern: Check permissions for all included material before streaming; religious subject matter does not itself grant rights to music or recordings.
