Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIf prerecorded podcast episodes are going out of order on a YouTube Live stream, set their sequence in the playlist used by your encoder. YouTube does not sort the local episode files for you by filename. In OBS Studio, add the files to a VLC Video source in the order you want, turn off Shuffle Playlist, and check the sequence before going live.
First, identify which playlist is out of order
“YouTube Live playlist” can mean a few different things, and each has a different ordering control:
| What you are ordering | Where to set the order | Guidance |
|---|---|---|
| Prerecorded local files sent through an OBS live stream | The media playlist in OBS | Add files in the intended sequence and leave shuffle off. OBS Media Sources |
| Uploaded videos designated as a YouTube podcast | The podcast playlist in YouTube Studio | YouTube’s guidance is newest-to-oldest for episodic shows and oldest-to-newest for serial shows. YouTube podcast setup |
| Segments in a live HLS ingest | The HLS media playlist | The playlist specifies the order in which stream segments are reassembled; it is not a rule for sorting episode files. YouTube HLS ingest documentation |
For ordinary prerecorded episodes played into a live encoder, inspect the encoder’s queue. YouTube’s live-ingest documentation describes receiving an already ordered stream or HLS segment playlist; it does not describe YouTube Live generating an episode sequence from local filenames.
Set the episode order in OBS
Prepare the VLC Video source
OBS’s VLC Video source plays a list of media files. VLC must be installed for the source to be available. OBS specifies that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. See the OBS Media Sources guide for the documented source settings.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- In OBS, add a VLC Video source to the scene you will use for the live output.
- Add the episode files to that source’s media list in the exact sequence you want them played. Do not rely on filenames to make the sequence; inspect the list itself.
- Leave Shuffle Playlist off. With shuffle off, the source follows the file-list order.
- Choose Loop Playlist deliberately. It is on by default in the documented VLC source settings. Leave it on if the sequence should start again after the final episode; turn it off if playback should end after the last file.
- Preview the scene and listen for sound. Confirm that the first file is the intended opener and that playback advances through the list in the expected sequence before going live.
Keep filenames useful without depending on them
Numbered filenames such as 01-introduction.mp4 and 02-interview.mp4 can make files easier to recognize, but the control that matters is the order shown in the OBS media list. If you add or replace episodes, inspect that list again rather than assuming the source has inferred the intended order.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep a prerecorded YouTube stream running without leaving a computer on, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. For episode order, make sure the playlist you build reflects the sequence you want; StreamNeo’s described role is to loop uploaded videos from the cloud, not to infer episode order from filenames.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. If the podcast episodes are uploaded YouTube videos
If you mean a YouTube podcast playlist rather than files being played through OBS, change the playlist order in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s podcast guidance distinguishes show formats: episodic shows should be arranged newest-to-oldest, while serial shows should be arranged oldest-to-newest. Use the podcast controls for that uploaded-video playlist, not the OBS live queue. See Create a podcast in YouTube Studio.

Troubleshoot an incorrect sequence
- Episodes play alphabetically or in an unexpected sequence: inspect the VLC Video source’s file list and arrange it manually; confirm Shuffle Playlist is off.
- The VLC Video source is missing: install VLC. If OBS is 64-bit, OBS says VLC must also be 64-bit.
- The right sequence starts over after the last episode: check Loop Playlist. It is on by default; turn it off if playback should stop after the final file.
- The live sequence is right, but the podcast page is wrong: edit the YouTube podcast playlist in Studio. OBS’s local media list and YouTube’s uploaded-video playlist are separate controls.
- You are diagnosing HLS segment order: check the HLS media playlist used for ingest. Its segment ordering is for reconstructing the incoming stream, not arranging podcast files by name.
