YouTube receives the feed through an encoder stream URL and stream key. The Mac, OBS, power and internet connection must remain available, and you should test the stream before making it public. For a hands-off option, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud to YouTube.
Choose a looping setup
Use OBS Studio as the encoder. Pick the source that matches your material:
| What you want to play | OBS source | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| One audio or video file | Media Source | Point it to the local file and enable Loop. For an audio-only bhajan, add a static image or other appropriate visual to the scene so the live feed has video. |
| Several files in sequence | VLC Video source | Add the files as a playlist and enable looping. VLC must be installed for this source. |
OBS on macOS supports common formats including MP4, MOV, MP3, AAC and WAV. Confirm that your files play correctly before scheduling a long broadcast; source behavior and performance depend on the Mac and media. For a single file, Media Source is the simpler setup. Choose the VLC playlist when you need several files to play in sequence.
Check your Mac and channel before setup
- Mac compatibility: OBS lists Intel and Apple Silicon processors and macOS 11 or later in its system requirements. Check the exact Mac and macOS combination, especially if the computer runs an older system. The OBS macOS compatibility page lists older compatible builds. Install from the official OBS guide by downloading the macOS disk image and moving OBS into Applications. OBS installation guide; macOS compatibility.
- Channel eligibility: YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Initial live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your intended start. YouTube live-streaming eligibility.
- Rights: Make sure you have permission for the particular recordings and relevant composition or publishing rights before broadcasting. Religious subject matter, age of a song, or availability online does not by itself establish permission.
- Unattended operation: The Mac must stay powered on and connected to a reliable internet connection while OBS is streaming. Plan for power, network interruptions and monitoring; YouTube’s encoder guidance does not guarantee that a Mac-based 24/7 stream will stay uninterrupted.
Prepare OBS and the looping content
- Create a scene: Open OBS and create a scene for the bhajan broadcast. Add a Media Source for one local file, or add a VLC Video source if you need a playlist.
- Set up the source: For Media Source, select the file and turn on Loop. For VLC Video, add the files in the order you want them to play and enable playlist looping. Check that the audio is audible and that any visual is framed as intended.
- Choose a sustainable video output: Use a resolution and bitrate that your Mac and upload connection can sustain. YouTube advises checking upload bitrate and testing the stream; a higher setting is not useful if it produces an unstable feed.
- Use YouTube-compatible encoder settings: YouTube’s guidance recommends RTMPS, H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval (not exceeding four seconds), and AAC or MP3 audio. YouTube encoder settings.
A simple scene with one looping source and a static visual is a reasonable low-complexity starting point. Test the exact files, scene and output settings you plan to use; actual performance still depends on the Mac, media and connection.

Create the YouTube encoder stream and connect OBS
- In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and create or schedule an encoder stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the event. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose YouTube as the service, then enter the stream details as prompted. If OBS offers the option to connect an account instead, use the stream details provided in YouTube Studio for the encoder workflow.
- Treat the stream key like a password. It is the credential that tells the encoder where to send the feed and allows YouTube to accept it. Do not share it publicly. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before streaming again.
- Start streaming in OBS and check the Live Control Room preview and stream health. For a scheduled workflow, start the event from YouTube when the preview is ready and you are prepared to go live.
YouTube recommends testing before a public broadcast, checking the preview and stream health, and monitoring audio and video. For an unattended stream, have a plan for checking that the broadcast remains live and that the loop continues as intended. YouTube encoder setup and troubleshooting.
Confirm music permissions before going public
YouTube makes the provider responsible for having the necessary rights to live content, including music rights. Its live-stream terms state: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” YouTube Terms of Service.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match may replace the image with a placeholder; continuing to stream identified content can lead to a temporary interruption or termination. If you have a licence for third-party content, the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist for the live stream not to be interrupted. Confirm rights for both the specific recording and any relevant composition or publishing interests with the rights holder or qualified counsel. YouTube copyright and live-stream guidance.
Plan for a long stream and its replay separately
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A 24/7 broadcast is much longer than that threshold, so do not promise a complete YouTube replay or rely on the platform archive as your only copy. If a replay matters, consider local recording and enough storage for the recording duration. YouTube recommends a local archive as a backup; an external SSD is one possible storage option, not a requirement. YouTube live-stream archiving guidance.

Troubleshoot common problems
- YouTube will not let the channel go live: Check channel verification and whether a live-stream restriction has applied in the previous 90 days. If live streaming was just enabled, allow for the stated activation period of up to 24 hours.
- The preview is black or has no sound: Check that the correct OBS scene and source are active, the file plays locally, the source is not muted, and the audio meter moves. For an audio-only source, confirm that the scene also includes an appropriate visual.
- The playlist stops after one pass: Reopen the source properties and confirm looping is enabled. For a multi-file playlist, verify that it is a VLC Video source and that VLC is installed.
- The stream is unstable or YouTube reports poor health: Check the Mac’s available upload bandwidth and reduce resolution or bitrate to a level the connection can sustain. Confirm the recommended CBR, keyframe interval and codec settings, then test again before going public.
- YouTube interrupts or replaces the live image: Check for a third-party content match in YouTube Studio. A claimed bhajan recording can still be subject to rights enforcement. Resolve permissions with the relevant rights holder; where licensed content is involved, ask whether the channel must be added to the Content ID allowlist.
- The live replay is incomplete or missing: A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured by YouTube. Use a separate local recording plan if a full replay is important, and check that storage is sufficient.
- The broadcast ends when nobody is watching the Mac: This workflow depends on the Mac, OBS, power and internet connection staying available. Check those dependencies and the stream’s status; YouTube documentation does not promise uninterrupted 24/7 operation.
