If the connection still times out, test outbound TCP 443 from the VPS and ask its provider to check egress filtering. A timeout alone does not establish that Indian VPS providers generally block YouTube.
Start with the correct YouTube RTMPS endpoint
In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room for the intended stream and copy its RTMPS server URL and stream key. Use the endpoint YouTube provides for that stream; do not substitute a hostname from an example or assume that every event uses the same URL. YouTube recommends RTMPS rather than plain RTMP for a secure connection. YouTube Help: Stream using an encoder
Preserve the complete hostname and URL path. YouTube’s ingestion guidance requires connecting to the correct endpoint, including its hostname for SNI-based server authentication. When troubleshooting the documented SSL failure case, specify port 443. Do not remove path components or alter the hostname. YouTube Live Streaming API: Ingestion protocols
Check that FFmpeg can use RTMPS
RTMPS is RTMP carried over SSL/TLS. FFmpeg protocol support can vary with how a particular binary was built, so verify the installed build rather than assuming that every FFmpeg package includes the necessary support. Run ffmpeg -protocols and inspect the installed build/configuration information; consult the official FFmpeg protocol documentation for RTMPS and URL details. If the needed protocol support is absent, opening a firewall port will not add it: install or build an FFmpeg version with the required support.

Trace the failure in order
- Copy fresh stream credentials. In Live Control Room, copy the RTMPS URL and the stream key for the event you are preparing. Treat the key like a password. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance
- Inspect FFmpeg’s output URL. It should use the
rtmpsscheme and the exact host and path YouTube supplied. Add or specify:443if the encoder requires it or you are investigating the SSL failure described by YouTube. Quote the full URL so shell-special characters in the key are preserved. - Confirm protocol support. Check the installed FFmpeg protocols and build configuration. If RTMPS is unavailable, use a suitable build before investigating network rules. FFmpeg protocol documentation
- Test from the VPS. Resolve the exact ingest hostname and attempt a TCP connection to that hostname on port 443 from the server. Check the VPS’s host firewall and outbound-network rules. A failed test gives you a concrete issue to investigate, but it does not prove an India-wide block.
- Ask the provider if the route still fails. If the hostname, URL, protocol support and local checks are correct but TCP connections time out, ask the VPS provider whether it filters outbound traffic to that destination and port. YouTube’s general guidance does not identify your provider’s policy.
- Compare TLS details if TCP connects. If the TCP connection succeeds but FFmpeg still reports an SSL or timeout error, review the detailed error and verify the RTMPS URL, hostname/SNI and TLS handling against YouTube’s requirements. Do not disable certificate verification as a workaround. YouTube ingestion requirements
- Run a rehearsal. Start a private or unlisted test stream, inspect its Live Control Room preview and health, and confirm audio and video before the service. Test with representative movement and sound, and leave time to address problems. YouTube encoder guidance · YouTube stream setup and testing guidance
Use a command template carefully
This is an illustrative shape, not a tested command. Replace the placeholders with the current endpoint format from Live Control Room and your stream key, and use your actual input and encoding options:
ffmpeg [input and encoding options] -f flv "rtmps://<exact-host>:443/<exact-path>/<stream-key>"

Do not post the full command or diagnostic logs publicly if they expose the key. YouTube supplies the actual endpoint; FFmpeg documents the protocol and URL structure. YouTube encoder setup · FFmpeg protocol documentation
What a timeout does—and does not—tell you
A timeout can result from an incorrect endpoint, unsupported protocol, DNS or route trouble, a local firewall, or provider egress filtering. The information available here does not establish that Indian VPS providers generally block YouTube, identify a provider that blocks outbound TCP 443, or confirm that your church’s VPS firewall is responsible. The provider name, exact FFmpeg error, build, and route-test result are needed to distinguish those cases.

If the provider confirms an egress restriction and you consider another VPS, verify outbound RTMPS/TCP 443 access to YouTube’s ingest hostname, the provider’s support response, and its bandwidth and usage terms directly. No particular replacement provider is established as a recommendation.
