A Hetzner Cloud server can send a prepared devotional video or audio feed to YouTube continuously: provision a Linux server with public internet access, run an encoder that connects to YouTube Live with your stream key, and supervise the process so it can recover from interruptions. The main constraints are operational rather than mysterious: server sizing depends on whether you encode or simply forward media, YouTube may not archive a stream longer than 12 hours, and every part of the broadcast must be properly licensed.
How the setup works
The basic path is prepared media → Hetzner Cloud server and encoder → YouTube Live. The server runs your streaming software and connects outward to YouTube’s ingest service. A cloud server avoids depending on a home computer and connection, but it does not by itself ensure an uninterrupted YouTube broadcast: software, server configuration, networks, and YouTube ingest all matter.
Decide whether the server will encode or transcode media, or forward already-encoded video. Encoding changes or creates an output stream and uses server resources; forwarding prepared media is a different workload. Hetzner’s published material does not specify a minimum server size for this use. Choose according to the software and source media, then measure CPU, memory, and network behavior during a realistic test rather than assuming a particular plan will suffice. Provision a Hetzner Cloud server
Choose an operating system and server type
Hetzner lists Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian, CentOS, Rocky Linux, and AlmaLinux among its supported operating systems. Use an operating system your team can maintain and keep updated. Hetzner distinguishes shared-CPU and dedicated-CPU offerings; dedicated CPU resources may be useful when an encoding workload needs more predictable CPU headroom, but neither type is a universal recommendation without measuring your workload. Make sure the server has public internet access
A Cloud server does not automatically include a public IP. Hetzner’s server overview lists an IPv4 Primary IP at €0.50 per month, excluding VAT, as a separate charge; check the current provider page for pricing and availability before provisioning. Hetzner Cloud server overview
Set firewall rules deliberately
Hetzner Cloud Firewalls are stateful. New inbound connections are dropped unless allowed by a rule. New outbound traffic is allowed by default, but if you add custom outbound rules, traffic that does not match them is dropped. For an outbound encoder, allow only the management access you actually need, restrict SSH sources where feasible, and confirm that your outbound policy permits DNS and the connection to YouTube’s ingest service. Connect the encoder to YouTube Live
- Create or select a stream in YouTube Studio. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup flow and open the stream’s settings in Live Control Room.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key into your encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it in a script repository, share it in logs, or expose it in screenshots. Store it in a protected configuration or secret store and rotate it if you believe it has been compromised.
- Start the encoder and check the preview. Confirm that YouTube receives the signal and that the picture and audio are correct before relying on the stream for viewers.
- Verify the public watch page. Check that the live broadcast is actually visible as intended, not merely that the encoder process is running.

Keep the stream running and detect failures
A command that works once is not a 24/7 operating plan. Use a process supervisor or a container restart policy so the encoder is restarted after a process failure or server reboot. Add log rotation so repeated errors do not fill the disk, and monitor whether the process is alive and whether YouTube is receiving the stream. Configure alerts for stopped processes or failed ingest, and periodically inspect audio and video quality.

- Check the YouTube preview and public watch page after each start or restart.
- Monitor audio and image periodically; a running process alone does not prove a usable broadcast.
- Keep enough local or server storage for logs and any recordings, and monitor disk usage.
- Verify saved archive files after each session if replay retention matters.
These are operational recommendations; a specific supervisor, container configuration, command, encoder profile, bitrate, or resolution should be selected using the current software documentation and the source file. Plan around YouTube’s 12-hour archive limit
Continuous viewer access and a continuous replay archive are different requirements. YouTube says it can automatically archive streams that are less than 12 hours, and warns that streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Do not rely on a single 24-hour live event being preserved as a complete replay. If replay matters, plan shorter sessions comfortably below 12 hours, consider how session transitions affect viewers, record a local backup where storage and rights permit, and inspect each resulting archive. Clear rights for devotional content
YouTube’s live-stream terms say the channel provider represents that it has all necessary rights for live content worldwide, including music licensing rights from artists, labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches; a match may produce a placeholder image, warning, temporary interruption, or termination. Even licensed third-party content may interrupt a stream if the channel has not been added to the rights owner’s Content ID allowlist. YouTube Live streaming terms
Before broadcasting, check rights for worship recordings and backing tracks, artwork and photographs, scripture translations, video footage, and any other third-party material. Permission to perform a song in person does not by itself establish permission for online recording, synchronization, public performance, worldwide continuous playback, or an archived replay. License scope depends on the work and the permissions obtained; confirm it with the rights holder or qualified counsel where needed.

Do not assume 24/7 format ensures monetization
YouTube’s channel monetization policy applies to live streams as well as other formats. Its July 15, 2025 clarification says repetitious or mass-produced material falls under “inauthentic content” and says monetized content should offer original value. Understand what Hetzner’s availability language covers
Hetzner’s current Cloud and vServer service agreement says: “Hetzner will use commercially reasonable efforts to ensure a monthly availability of 99.9% for its Cloud Servers”. The figure applies to an individual Cloud Server in a calendar month and is subject to exclusions, including customer software or configuration failures and some external network interruptions. The agreement describes Cloud Credits as the remedy subject to its process. It is not a guarantee that YouTube ingest or the complete end-to-end broadcast will be available at that level. A second encoder, monitoring, and a failover design can add resilience, but they also add operational complexity and potentially duplicate bandwidth and storage costs. The sources here do not establish a tested failover topology for this use case. Keep local recording and stream recovery as distinct goals: one protects replay assets; the other aims to restore the live signal.

Pre-launch checklist
- Confirm the server has a public IP and its firewall permits necessary management access and encoder egress.
- Protect the YouTube stream key and verify the encoder connects to the intended stream.
- Run a realistic test long enough to observe resource use and audio/video quality.
- Set up process recovery, log rotation, health checks, and alerts appropriate to your operation.
- Choose whether archive preservation requires shorter sessions and/or local recording.
- Clear all third-party rights for the live signal and any saved replays.
- Confirm the preview and public watch page, then verify the archive after a test session.
