For a conventional Hindi music stream with a persistent visual, a practical starting profile is H.264 video at 1080p30, CBR at 14 Mbps, two-second keyframes, and stereo AAC audio at 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps. These are YouTube’s recommended encoder settings, not a tested MediaLive preset or a promise of uninterrupted service. MediaLive must receive a continuous source, process it, and send a compatible output to YouTube; the YouTube stream URL and key belong on the output side, not in MediaLive’s source-input configuration.

This guide follows AWS and YouTube documentation available on October 3, 2026. Exact console controls depend on the selected MediaLive input, channel class, output group, and destination protocol, so verify those choices in the current AWS console or API before building the channel.

Choose a starting video and audio profile

For a music channel built around a still image or other persistent visual, start with the output resolution and frame rate that suit the source and viewers’ connections. YouTube’s live encoder guidance recommends CBR video, a two-second keyframe interval, and not exceeding four seconds. Its recommended H.264 bitrate differs by output resolution and frame rate.

Output profile YouTube recommended H.264 video bitrate Keyframes Audio guidance
1080p30 14 Mbps 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds Stereo AAC or MP3, 44.1 kHz, 128 Kbps
720p30 8 Mbps 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds Stereo AAC or MP3, 44.1 kHz, 128 Kbps

These figures are YouTube’s recommended ingest settings, not measured guarantees of picture quality or stability. The 1080p30 profile is a reasonable conventional starting point; choose 720p30 if it better fits the source, audience devices, or available capacity. A static visual does not inherently require a high frame rate. Match the MediaLive output to what the source and production actually provide rather than adding detail the program does not contain.

YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for its RTMP/RTMPS ingest guidance, up to 60 fps. AWS’s documented MediaLive RTMP input path lists H.264 video and AAC audio. Therefore, do not assume YouTube’s broader codec list applies to every MediaLive input or output path: confirm codec support for the exact AWS output group and destination combination.

Understand the MediaLive-to-YouTube signal path

AWS describes MediaLive as a channel that ingests and transcodes an attached input, then sends one or more outputs. An upstream system supplies the audio/video; downstream systems receive the processed output. A channel processes one attached input at a time, although schedule actions can switch inputs.

  1. Choose and provide the source. Decide whether the Hindi music program arrives as a live push feed, a supported HLS source, or another source supported by the intended MediaLive input. The source must remain available for the periods you expect to broadcast.
  2. Create the MediaLive input and channel. Configure the source-to-MediaLive side first, then select a channel class, output group, video/audio encoders, and destination path compatible with that source and YouTube. AWS input fields describe what feeds MediaLive; they are not where the YouTube stream key is used.
  3. Set the output profile. Apply the chosen resolution, frame rate, H.264 CBR video bitrate, keyframe interval, and audio codec/sample-rate/bitrate. Verify the chosen output group supports those codecs and the destination protocol.
  4. Connect the YouTube destination. In YouTube Live Control Room, obtain the stream URL and stream key, then enter them in the selected output encoder configuration. YouTube describes the key as similar to the stream’s password and address: it identifies where the encoder sends the feed and lets YouTube accept it.
  5. Start with a full-path test. Confirm audio and video at YouTube, inspect stream health, and test any planned failover before relying on the channel for continuous delivery.

Keep RTMP and RTMPS on the correct side

YouTube recommends RTMPS. AWS documents that a MediaLive RTMP input does not support RTMPS. That limitation concerns the MediaLive input path; it does not establish that every MediaLive output path lacks RTMPS support. Do not paste a YouTube RTMPS endpoint into an AWS RTMP input field. Instead, choose a MediaLive output/destination path that supports the protocol expected by YouTube and verify the exact protocol controls for that output group in the current AWS console or API.

For a public RTMP push input, AWS creates two input destinations for a standard-class input and one for a single-class input. AWS requires a MediaLive input security group on a public RTMP push input; it filters which source IP ranges can push to the input. Treat this as an ingress security control, not as a substitute for protecting the YouTube stream key.

Choose redundancy based on the whole system

A standard MediaLive channel uses two independently processing pipelines, and AWS recommends that design for resiliency. It is not a one-click guarantee: upstream and downstream systems must support the duplicated feeds and outputs. A single-pipeline design has fewer redundancy requirements, but also does not provide that two-pipeline arrangement.

Design choice What it requires Operational implication
Standard, two-pipeline channel Two upstream sources and downstream capability to receive two outputs Plan, provision, and test both sides of the duplicate path; confirm capacity and failover behavior.
Single-pipeline channel One pipeline and a compatible input/output path Less duplication to arrange, but it is not the two-pipeline resiliency design AWS recommends.

YouTube recommends upload capacity for the primary stream, backup stream, and 20% headroom. That guidance is framed around encoder upload capacity; for a cloud-to-cloud MediaLive architecture, assess capacity for the actual source, pipeline, output, and destination design rather than applying an on-premises network assumption blindly.

For an HLS source, AWS classifies an HTTP/HTTPS HLS source as live only when its buffer segments setting is 3–10. AWS does not recommend Amazon S3 as a live source. If the Hindi music is being supplied as a playlist or continuous HLS feed, confirm that its actual delivery behavior meets the selected input’s requirements; a playlist file or stored media alone does not establish continuous live-source behavior.

Plan for continuous operation, not just encoder settings

A schedule or an always-on channel setting does not by itself ensure an uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast. Continuous service depends on source continuity, input recovery, channel operation, output connectivity, YouTube ingest, monitoring, and who responds when something fails. AWS and YouTube’s technical guidance does not certify a particular 24/7 Hindi music configuration.

  • Capacity: test the chosen architecture with representative audio and movement, and check network/upload capacity as YouTube recommends.
  • Rights: confirm the actual recordings and compositions are cleared for continuous YouTube streaming in the intended territories and platform context. Encoding settings do not grant music rights or establish eligibility under YouTube’s other channel policies.

Test and troubleshoot before leaving it live

YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement representative of the real stream, monitoring stream health, checking network/upload capacity, and using a reliable network with sufficient bandwidth. Test the complete source-to-MediaLive-to-YouTube path, including any failover you intend to depend on.

Symptom Likely area to check Practical next step
YouTube does not receive the stream Destination URL/key, output configuration, or protocol mismatch Confirm the stream URL and key in the output encoder configuration, verify the selected output group’s protocol, and check that the key has not been reset.
MediaLive cannot receive a public RTMP push Input destination or security group Check the correct input destination and confirm the MediaLive input security group permits the source IP range.
Video or audio is rejected or absent Codec compatibility or incomplete encoder configuration Check the exact input/output path’s codec support; for MediaLive RTMP input, AWS lists H.264 video and AAC audio. Verify audio is configured and present.
Playback stutters or stream health degrades Source continuity, network capacity, bitrate, or downstream path Test with representative content, examine the source and output path, and compare actual available capacity with the selected profile and any backup stream requirement.
HLS source is not treated as live HLS buffer segments setting or source behavior For HTTP/HTTPS HLS, check that the buffer segments setting is within AWS’s live classification range of 3–10, and verify the feed itself continues updating.
A failover does not restore the broadcast Missing duplicated source/output capability or untested recovery procedure Verify the upstream can supply both sources and downstream can receive both outputs for a standard channel; exercise the planned failover and document who takes action.

Estimate AWS cost for the actual design

No reliable MediaLive cost can be calculated from resolution and bitrate alone. The estimate depends on AWS region, channel class, output profile, run hours, destination, and supporting services. Price the selected architecture with current AWS pricing for the region and configuration before committing to continuous operation; include any duplicated resources required by the resilience design. The YouTube encoder recommendations above are not AWS pricing inputs by themselves.
