The location in the title is not, by itself, evidence of an India-specific cause; the available guidance does not establish one.
Identify what “stopped” means
Write down the failure time and timezone, then check what happened at that moment. YouTube says stopping content from the encoder ends the stream; for a scheduled stream, an operator can also end it in Live Control Room. YouTube’s streaming guidance explains these controls.
- Live Control Room says the stream ended or went offline: investigate YouTube ingest, encoder output, and the outbound network path.
- The encoder process exited or reported a disconnect: investigate the encoder, host, and its service configuration.
- The live page kept updating, but one viewer saw buffering: check that viewer’s playback and connection before concluding the broadcast ended.
- The live broadcast ended, but no archive appeared: check archive eligibility separately. YouTube automatically archives eligible streams shorter than 12 hours and warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. That is an archive caveat, not a stated maximum live-stream duration. YouTube’s archive guidance
If several viewers report a problem at the same time, that is a reason to examine the stream and encoder path; it is not enough on its own to identify the failed component.
Compare evidence from YouTube, the encoder, and EC2
Use the same failure timestamp across all three places. A single error message or a missing recording rarely identifies the cause by itself.

1. Review YouTube stream health
Open the stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and review stream-health status and messages around the incident. YouTube recommends testing before an event and monitoring stream health while live. YouTube’s encoder settings and stream-health guidance describes the relevant checks. Record the displayed status and the time each message appeared.
2. Check the encoder process and output
Determine whether the encoder was still running, whether it reported an ingest disconnect or reconnect, and whether an encoder error or high CPU load preceded the failure. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance recommends checking encoder errors and CPU load; if the encoder appears healthy, it advises testing the outbound internet connection. 3. Inspect the EC2 host and network measurements
Correlate operating-system and encoder-service logs with EC2 network metrics at the same time. AWS says CloudWatch instance metrics and ENA driver network-performance metrics can show bandwidth, packet activity, and exceeded instance-level network allowances. Short microbursts may not be visible at ordinary CloudWatch reporting intervals, so a clean-looking chart does not necessarily rule them out. AWS guidance on monitoring EC2 network performance
If the instance itself became unreachable, AWS identifies console output as a useful place to investigate kernel and service-configuration problems. AWS instance console guidance

Test whether EC2 bandwidth behavior fits the failure
Available EC2 bandwidth depends on the instance type and its documented network allowances. Some smaller instance types marked “up to” use network I/O credits: when credits are exhausted, bandwidth returns to baseline. AWS describes burst durations as typically 5–60 minutes depending on instance size—not as a universal cutoff or a promised time to failure. AWS EC2 network-bandwidth guidance
This makes bandwidth-credit exhaustion a hypothesis to test, not a diagnosis. Find the exact instance type’s baseline and burst specifications, then look for dropped packets or exceeded network allowances at the failure time. The symptom alone does not establish that credits ran out, that all EC2 instances behave this way, or that India caused it.

Compare the encoder’s total output bitrate—including audio—with the effective outbound capacity available to the instance, accounting for other traffic. YouTube advises that total streaming bitrate fit within available upload bandwidth with headroom, and warns that a connectivity disruption can break a stream. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance For an EC2 encoder, the relevant path is the cloud host’s outbound connection, not a speed test from a home connection.

Check the encoder profile against YouTube’s current published guidance and the actual resolution, frame rate, and codec you use. The recommended protocol options include RTMP and RTMPS, with RTMPS recommended. YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and no more than four seconds between keyframes. Bitrate guidance varies by codec, resolution, and frame rate, so use the table for your particular profile rather than applying one bitrate to every stream. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance

Test with representative audio and motion before the next important broadcast, and watch stream health while it runs. Correct settings reduce configuration-related risk, but they do not explain a failure without supporting evidence from the encoder, YouTube, or EC2.
Plan and test failover
A backup encoder can reduce reliance on one encoder path during an important event, but it is a resilience measure—not an explanation for why the primary stopped. YouTube recommends exercising failover by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet cable, then confirming that the player rolls over to the backup. YouTube’s live-streaming tips Test before relying on a backup; having one configured does not establish that viewers will switch successfully.

What to collect before naming a cause
- EC2 instance type and Region, plus its documented network baseline and burst behavior.
- Encoder software and version, configuration, logs, and whether its process remained alive.
- The exact stop time and timezone, YouTube Live Control Room status and messages, and whether the watch page stopped for multiple viewers.
- EC2 network metrics and any available ENA allowance or packet evidence at that time, along with competing outbound traffic.
- Whether only the archive is missing, and whether a tested backup encoder took over.
Until those facts line up, report the incident as unresolved rather than attributing it to India, a particular AWS Region, or EC2 bandwidth credits.
