There is no single published India monthly price for running a 24/7 YouTube channel on AWS Elemental MediaPackage. MediaPackage live charges depend on gigabytes ingested and gigabytes originated and packaged; the applicable total also depends on the AWS region, stream design, CDN caching, and other services in the workflow. AWS lists a MediaPackage V1 live endpoint in Mumbai (ap-south-1), but its published 24/7 pricing example is for US East, not India. If you only need to send a continuous encoder feed to YouTube, MediaPackage is not established as a required step.
How MediaPackage charges for a live stream
AWS meters live MediaPackage usage by the volume of video ingested and the volume of content originated and packaged, measured in GB. It is not a flat fee for keeping one channel online for a month. The relevant pricing page is AWS Elemental MediaPackage Pricing.
Ingest: all input streams count
Ingest volume rises with the combined bitrate and running time of the inputs sent to MediaPackage. Count every rendition and any redundant input streams in the design. More inputs or higher bitrates mean more data ingested and therefore greater usage-based cost.
Origination and packaging: CDN caching matters
MediaPackage origination and packaging charges scale with the content volume delivered from MediaPackage toward the CDN. That volume is not necessarily the same as total viewer traffic: a CDN cache hit can serve a viewer without fetching the content again from the origin. AWS recommends CloudFront caching with MediaPackage to reduce the volume originated and packaged. CDN delivery and data-transfer charges may still apply, depending on the architecture and route.

What AWS’s published 24/7 example does—and does not—tell you
AWS presents a live-linear example for US East (N. Virginia), not Mumbai. Its assumptions are two ingested channel inputs, five renditions with a combined bitrate of 9.5 Mbps, an average viewing bitrate of 2 Mbps, average viewership of 1,000 viewers per hour, and a 97.5% CDN cache-hit ratio. In that example, AWS calculates 4.175 GB/hour per rendition set and 21.97 GB/hour originated after caching, then gives an estimated combined ingest and origination/packaging cost of $1.3505 per hour at the rates used in the example. AWS identifies the example as US East and bases it on those stated assumptions; it is not an India rate, an INR monthly quote, or a forecast for a different channel.
The example is useful for seeing which inputs move the bill, not for multiplying a US figure into an India estimate. A different rendition ladder, redundancy setup, audience, cache-hit ratio, region, MediaPackage generation, or current regional rate can change the result. AWS also notes that delivery outside AWS, or use of a CDN other than CloudFront, can result in additional internet data-transfer charges; check the billing route for the planned design on the AWS pricing page.

Is MediaPackage available in India?
AWS’s MediaPackage endpoints and quotas reference lists a MediaPackage V1 live endpoint in Asia Pacific (Mumbai), region code ap-south-1. That establishes a listed regional endpoint, but does not establish the current Mumbai rate, a tax-inclusive INR total, or the account currency that will appear on a particular bill.
For a regional estimate, select Mumbai in the AWS Pricing Calculator, enter the actual workload, and confirm the current price for the service generation and configuration you will use. Treat taxes, billing currency, and any other services as separate items to verify for your account.

Do you need MediaPackage for a direct YouTube stream?
Not necessarily. In YouTube’s standard encoder workflow, you enter the server URL and stream key shown in YouTube Live Control Room into the encoder. YouTube recommends RTMPS as a secure option and says it automatically transcodes incoming live video into viewer formats. Its documentation covers encoder setup and settings, including recommended ingest bitrates; these are YouTube ingest recommendations, not MediaPackage prices. See YouTube’s guides to setting up a live stream with an encoder, encoder settings, and RTMPS.
MediaPackage is an origin and packaging service used in delivery workflows involving players and downstream CDNs. AWS documentation describes creating origin endpoints and a broader live architecture, but that does not make MediaPackage a required part of YouTube’s direct encoder-to-YouTube flow. Add it only when your architecture has a separate MediaPackage origin or packaging requirement. AWS’s broader Live Streaming on AWS deployment guide shows that an AWS workflow can also include services such as MediaLive and CloudFront, each with its own cost implications.

What you need for a responsible India estimate
A single monthly figure without workload details would be false precision. Gather these inputs before estimating:
- MediaPackage generation and AWS region: confirm whether the design uses V1 or V2, and select the intended region, such as Mumbai (ap-south-1) if applicable.
- Input streams: list each rendition’s bitrate and count, plus any redundant inputs. Aggregate bitrate drives ingest volume.
- Hours in operation: specify the expected run time, including whether the channel operates continuously.
- Audience delivery: estimate average delivered viewer bitrate and concurrent viewing volume.
- CDN behavior: model the expected cache-hit ratio and identify the CDN, since caching affects how much content is fetched from MediaPackage.
- Other services and billing assumptions: include any MediaLive inputs or outputs, add-ons, CDN data transfer, billing currency, and applicable tax assumptions.
Use the matching current AWS price page and calculator inputs rather than treating the US East example as a substitute for Mumbai rates. MediaPackage V2 also uses per-GB charges for received and streamed-out content; its guide says content cached and served from a CDN does not incur that per-GB MediaPackage charge. Confirm the generation in your design and use the corresponding current pricing information: AWS Elemental MediaPackage V2 pricing.

For a 24/7 YouTube channel, compare the right approaches
If the requirement is simply to keep uploaded video playing continuously on YouTube, compare a direct encoder-to-YouTube setup with a cloud looping service before adding an AWS origin/CDN architecture. The choice depends on whether you need separate packaging and delivery for other playback destinations, how much control and resilience the design needs, and the total cost of encoding, ingest, CDN, and transfer—not MediaPackage alone.
- Direct encoder to YouTube: send the encoder feed to YouTube using the Live Control Room server URL and stream key. YouTube’s documented workflow does not establish MediaPackage as a prerequisite.
- AWS origin/CDN architecture: use MediaPackage when the design needs its origin and packaging role; estimate ingest, origination, caching, encoding, and delivery together for the selected region and service version.
- StreamNeo: for uploaded videos that should loop on YouTube 24/7, it runs from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The cloud keeps the loop running, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Every quality up to 4K 60fps streams as uploaded at one price per slot; automatic recovery helps restart the stream if YouTube drops it. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams made from uploaded videos, not camera broadcasts. Learn about StreamNeo or start the free first day.
