Set the Wirecast playlist’s end behavior to Loop so it returns to its first shot after the last one. If an individual video also needs to restart at its own end, set that clip’s When Finished behavior to Loop. These are separate controls. The detailed instructions below come from Telestream’s Wirecast 13 Windows guide; labels or control placement may differ in your installed version.
Set the playlist to repeat
- Add and order your clips. Create a Wirecast playlist, add the videos you want to play, and check that they are in the intended sequence.
- Set the playlist end behavior to Loop. This makes playback return to the playlist’s first shot after the last shot. In Wirecast 13 for Windows, the guide describes this as the playlist’s end behavior. Find the equivalent playlist behavior control in your installed release and verify its label. Telestream’s Wirecast 13 Windows user guide documents the behavior.
- Set individual clip behavior if needed. Open the clip’s Source Properties and set When Finished to Loop if that clip should restart at its own end rather than stop on its last frame. A clip’s behavior does not replace the playlist’s end behavior. In particular, if the playlist is set to Hold, it can remain on its last shot even if the last clip’s own behavior differs.
For a sequence of several videos, the playlist setting is what returns the sequence to its beginning. Use a clip’s own Loop setting only when that clip itself should repeat at its end.
Connect Wirecast to YouTube Live
- Enable live streaming on the channel. YouTube requires live streaming to be enabled; first-time activation can take up to 24 hours. Set up ahead of your intended start time. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- Choose encoder streaming in YouTube Live Control Room. YouTube lists Wirecast as an encoder option. Use the stream key and server details supplied in Live Control Room, and keep the key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send a stream to your channel.
- Configure Wirecast’s stream destination. Enter the YouTube-provided connection details in Wirecast’s streaming output settings. Prefer RTMPS where available: YouTube recommends encrypted RTMPS ingestion. Supported settings and appropriate bitrate depend on your selected resolution and frame rate. Consult YouTube’s live encoder settings and bitrate guidance rather than assuming one bitrate suits every stream.
- Check upload capacity. YouTube recommends about 20% upload-bandwidth headroom beyond the bitrate you send. For example, a stream using a given bitrate needs more than that bitrate available for upload; the headroom is a recommendation, not a guarantee against network drops. Avoid saturating the connection with other uploads.
- Preview, then start. Wait for the preview in Live Control Room, check that picture and sound are correct, and only then start the stream. YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring audio and video while the stream runs. Its live streaming tips cover preparation and monitoring.
Test the full playlist cycle
Before relying on the setup for a continuous broadcast, let the playlist play through to its last shot and confirm that it returns to the first. Check any individually looping clips separately, and listen for gaps, unexpected silence, or audio that carries over incorrectly at transitions. Confirm that the YouTube preview and live output remain stable during the cycle.
A 24/7 schedule is an operating goal, not an uptime guarantee. Wirecast depends on the computer running the encoder, a working network connection, and YouTube’s live service. Telestream’s Wirecast resources include version documentation; its public version history lists Wirecast 16.5.4, released September 16, 2026. Because the playlist behavior instructions cited here are from Wirecast 13 for Windows, check the controls in your own release rather than assuming the current interface is identical.

Troubleshoot playlist and stream problems
