Not with a documented YouTube Studio file-loop control. YouTube’s cited instructions cover webcam, mobile, and encoder streaming, but do not describe turning an uploaded video into a looping live broadcast inside Studio. To play a prerecorded video as a YouTube Live stream without OBS, use an external cloud streaming service or another compatible encoder. YouTube’s encoder page lists Gyre as a cloud option for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming; StreamNeo is another cloud option for looping uploaded videos to YouTube.
What “directly on YouTube Live” means
YouTube documents three main ways to start a stream: webcam, mobile device, or encoder. An encoder can be software or hardware. Its webcam workflow lets you broadcast from a computer without separate encoding software, but it is a camera-based workflow—not a documented way to select a local video file and loop it. YouTube’s cited instructions likewise do not show a native Studio command for looping an uploaded recording as a live broadcast. YouTube’s overview of live streaming and webcam streaming instructions describe these separate routes.
So the practical answer is: you can stream prerecorded video live on YouTube without OBS, but the video must be played and sent to YouTube by an external service or encoder. YouTube’s encoder information names Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos without a dedicated PC. That establishes it as an example, not a comparison of services, and you should check its current availability, pricing, supported formats, and terms before choosing it.
Choose how the prerecorded video will reach YouTube
Cloud streaming service
A cloud service plays the uploaded recording from its own infrastructure and sends the broadcast to YouTube. This avoids keeping a home computer running. YouTube’s encoder page identifies Gyre in this category. StreamNeo also provides cloud looping for YouTube: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The choice of service does not change YouTube’s requirements for your channel or your responsibility to monitor the broadcast.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Your own computer and encoder
A compatible encoder can send a prerecorded video as the stream source, but the computer and encoder must keep running for the broadcast to continue. OBS is one possible software approach, but it is not the only way to encode a stream. The research here does not establish that a particular hardware encoder supports looping files, so confirm that capability with the manufacturer before buying one.
Webcam or mobile streaming
These are routes for capturing a live camera or mobile stream, not documented file-loop methods. They may suit a live presenter, but do not solve the specific task of broadcasting a prerecorded video repeatedly without another playback-and-encoding method.

Set up an encoder-based YouTube stream
YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a stream URL and stream key, then the Live Control Room to preview and start the broadcast. The exact encoder menus vary by product, so use its own instructions for choosing the prerecorded file and setting it to repeat.
- Check eligibility first. Your channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Enabling live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s live-streaming access requirements.
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create or schedule a stream and locate the stream URL and stream key in the stream settings. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your channel.
- Configure your encoder or cloud service. Add the YouTube stream URL and key where the service requests them, then select the recording or playlist and enable looping if available. A cloud service may have its own upload, format, or playlist requirements; check its current documentation.
- Start sending the stream. Start the encoder or cloud broadcast and wait for YouTube to receive the signal. Follow YouTube’s encoder workflow and the encoder’s current instructions.
- Check the preview before going live. In Live Control Room, confirm the correct video appears and test the audio, then click Go live. YouTube recommends checking the preview; verify the entire file-to-stream path rather than assuming that a successful upload means the broadcast is correct. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
- Monitor the broadcast. Check picture and sound after launch and periodically while it runs. If you use a local encoder, also make sure the computer, network, and playback remain available. If you use a cloud service, check its status and YouTube’s live preview rather than leaving a new stream untested.
Plan for long-running loops and archives
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is not a promise that a 24/7 stream will be archived as one complete video. For a continuous loop, decide whether you need an archive and plan your broadcast duration accordingly. YouTube’s encoder workflow also instructs creators to end the stream and stop sending content from the encoder when finished; stopping playback alone may not end the YouTube broadcast as intended. See YouTube’s encoder instructions.

Check rights and YouTube rules before looping
Being able to send a recording as a live signal does not establish that you have the right to broadcast it or that it qualifies for monetization. Use footage, music, narration, and other material you own or are licensed to use, and check that the license permits livestreaming and repeated playback. YouTube’s automated copyright systems and channel policies can apply to live broadcasts as well as ordinary uploads. Review the current YouTube copyright guidance and YouTube channel monetization policies before leaving a loop running. Repeated or minimally changed material can raise reused-content concerns for monetization; a livestream format alone does not make content original.

Troubleshooting common problems
YouTube does not show a preview
- Confirm the encoder or service is actually sending a signal and is using the stream URL and key for the intended YouTube broadcast.
- Check that the stream key has not been mistyped, replaced, or copied from a different stream setup. If you suspect it was exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the encoder.
- Allow for first-time live-stream activation, which YouTube says can take up to 24 hours.
The broadcast starts, but the video does not repeat
- Check the playback or playlist setting in the external encoder or cloud service; YouTube Studio’s documented workflow does not provide the file-loop control.
- Confirm the playlist contains the intended recording and that the service accepts its file format. Requirements depend on the service and are not established by YouTube’s general encoder instructions.
Viewers cannot hear the audio or see the expected picture
- Review the Live Control Room preview before going live and test both audio and video from the beginning of the file.
- Check the source recording and the encoder’s audio/video input settings. A file can upload successfully while its stream output is still wrong.
The stream stops unexpectedly
- With a local encoder, check whether the computer slept, the encoder closed, or the internet connection failed.
- With a cloud service, check its broadcast status and reconnect or restart according to its instructions. For StreamNeo, automatic recovery is included if YouTube drops the stream.
