You can stream a prerecorded video or playlist from a Windows PC to YouTube Live by using encoder software: create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, copy its server URL and stream key into the encoder, then play and loop your files. For a local 24/7 stream, the PC, power, source files and internet connection all need to remain available. This guide covers the setup, testing, rights, archives and the cloud alternative.
Before you set up the stream
Check channel eligibility
In YouTube Studio, confirm that live streaming is available for your channel before preparing a long broadcast. YouTube says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions during the previous 90 days; its stated minimum age for live streaming is 16. Check your account in Studio for current eligibility and any prompts: YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
Prepare the video and audio
Use material you created or have permission to stream. A video or song being publicly available online does not mean it is cleared for rebroadcast. If you have a licence for third-party content, check whether the rights owner must allowlist your channel in Content ID. YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted material from another live broadcast, and a match can interrupt the stream: YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.
Check your upload connection
Measure the upload capacity of the connection the PC will actually use. Choose a bitrate your connection can sustain reliably, rather than selecting the highest quality setting. YouTube recommends RTMPS and advises testing the upload bitrate and choosing a reliable quality for your connection. Its current encoder settings guidance is at YouTube’s recommended live encoder settings. The reviewed guidance does not establish a special minimum upload speed for India, so use your own connection measurements rather than assuming an internet plan’s advertised download speed is enough.

Create the YouTube Live stream and connect the encoder
- Open YouTube Studio. Create or schedule a live stream using the encoder workflow. Check the stream details and visibility before starting; use a private or unlisted test if you do not want the test broadcast to be public.
- Copy the connection details. YouTube provides a server URL and stream key in the Live Control Room. The encoder sends its feed to YouTube using these details. Follow the current YouTube encoder setup instructions for the Studio interface.
- Enter them in your encoder. In the Windows encoder’s stream settings, select the YouTube or custom server option as appropriate, then enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key. Keep the key private: anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your stream. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Choose the video source and loop behavior. Add the local video file or playlist as the encoder’s source, and enable repeat or looping if you want playback to restart when it reaches the end. Exact controls depend on the encoder and version; use its current documentation for the precise menu names. Verify that the files remain accessible at their saved paths.
- Start the encoder and inspect YouTube’s preview. Confirm that the preview shows the intended video and that audio is present at an appropriate level. Start the broadcast from the Live Control Room when ready, if Studio requires that separate action.
YouTube’s setup process is encoder-based; exact loop controls are software-specific. OBS and other encoder interfaces can change, so consult the current documentation for the encoder you choose rather than relying on an outdated menu path.
Set quality and test before going public
Pick settings your connection can hold
Resolution, frame rate and bitrate work together: a higher-resolution or higher-frame-rate feed generally needs more upload capacity. Use YouTube’s current settings table for the target resolution and frame rate, then select a bitrate within the connection’s reliable capacity. Do not treat a recommended encoder bitrate as a guaranteed minimum internet-plan speed. If the connection varies, reducing the stream’s quality can be more dependable than pushing a high bitrate.

Run a representative test
- Use a private or unlisted stream and the same PC, network, files and encoder settings intended for the real broadcast.
- Include the kinds of scenes and sound the full program contains. Check motion for stuttering or blockiness and listen for missing, distorted or out-of-sync audio.
- Watch YouTube’s Live Control Room preview and stream-health indicators while the encoder runs. If health degrades, lower the bitrate or resolution, or address the connection problem before going public.
- Confirm that the video loops correctly and that playback continues through a representative transition or playlist change.
Keep a local Windows stream running
A local encoder keeps sending video only while the computer and its dependencies remain available. For an extended broadcast:
- Prevent Windows from sleeping or hibernating during the stream, and check that display-off settings do not also put the PC to sleep.
- Keep the source files on storage that will stay connected and available; avoid moving or renaming them while the encoder is running.
- Plan for power cuts, router or ISP interruptions, Windows updates, encoder crashes and disk or file errors. A UPS may help with brief power interruptions, but it does not solve internet outages.
- Monitor the encoder and YouTube stream health. A local setup does not automatically guarantee recovery if the feed stops.
For a one-off program, a local PC can be a straightforward way to control the files and encoder directly without a cloud-service fee. For continuous operation, that convenience comes with responsibility for the PC, electricity, network and monitoring. Hosted cloud playout shifts encoder runtime to a provider, but introduces provider access, pricing and reliability terms that you should check directly. Neither approach changes YouTube’s archive behavior.

Plan the archive separately
YouTube can automatically archive streams under 12 hours, but broadcasts longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. As YouTube puts it, “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” See YouTube’s archive guidance. If retaining the complete program matters, keep an independent local recording or divide the broadcast into shorter sessions and verify the resulting archives.
Copyright and monetization are separate questions
Permission does not guarantee an uninterrupted stream
Live scanning can identify third-party material while a broadcast is in progress. Clear the rights for every video and audio component, including music, clips, images and background material. If licensed content is being matched, confirm with the rights owner whether Content ID allowlisting is needed for your channel; a licence alone may not prevent an automated interruption.

A looping feed is not automatically monetizable
Going live successfully does not mean a channel qualifies for monetization. YouTube’s monetization eligibility and regional availability are separate from live-stream access; check your channel’s status and the current YouTube Partner Program requirements in Studio. YouTube’s overview says applicants must live in a country or region where the program is available: YouTube Partner Program overview.
YouTube’s channel monetization policy update dated July 15, 2025 clarified that repetitive or mass-produced material is “inauthentic content.” YouTube says this kind of content has always been ineligible under its existing policies. A video repeated continuously should not be assumed to qualify; eligibility depends on the channel and its content. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies.

Troubleshooting common problems

India-specific checks
There is no separate India-only encoder workflow established in YouTube’s setup guidance. Follow the same Studio and encoder steps, measure the upload connection where the PC will run, and check live eligibility and monetization status in your own account. YPP availability should be confirmed for your country or region rather than inferred from the ability to start a live stream.
