In OBS, add the ASMR recording as a Media Source, select the file, and turn on Loop. To prevent the same sound from reaching the stream twice, route the file’s audio through one intended source path: check that desktop or application audio capture is not also picking it up. Preview the end-to-start transition and test the stream before going live. YouTube’s viewer-side Loop control does not make an encoder repeat a live broadcast.
Which loop setting actually repeats your live video?
There are two different controls called “loop.” YouTube’s Loop control repeats a video or playlist for an individual viewer. It does not configure the encoder sending your live stream. In an OBS workflow, repetition is set on the video source itself.
- Media Source: Loop repeats the file when playback completes.
- Restart playback when source becomes active restarts playback when the source is in the current scene and visible. It is not the repeat switch.
OBS describes the Media Source Loop property as specifying whether the file plays again after playback completes. The documented options are on OBS’s Media Sources page (dated January 11, 2022); labels or their placement may vary in your installed OBS version.
Set up the OBS media source and loop
- Add the recording: In your scene’s Sources panel, select + and choose Media Source. Create a new source, then browse to and select the local video file. OBS lists common video and audio formats, including MP4 and MOV, as supported media-source formats.
- Enable repetition: Open the Media Source properties and check Loop. Confirm that the selected file is the long ASMR recording you intend to play.
- Set scene behavior deliberately: Enable Restart playback when source becomes active only if you want the file to start over when this source becomes active in the visible scene. It does not replace Loop.
- Check audio routing: Watch the OBS audio mixer while the media plays. Keep one intended path for the recording’s sound. If desktop or application audio capture also includes the player or source audio, that capture may create a second path; check the mixer and routing rather than assuming the loop itself is at fault.
- Listen across the boundary: Preview the final seconds followed by the opening seconds. If there is a pause, abrupt change, or overlapping sound, inspect the recording’s ending and beginning and edit the file if needed. The available OBS documentation does not establish a setting that guarantees a gapless or crossfaded seam.
- Test before broadcasting: Make a private or unlisted test stream if appropriate, then listen to the stream and monitor both audio and video. YouTube advises creators to test streams and continuously monitor stream quality in its live streaming tips.
Connect OBS to YouTube and verify eligibility
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and obtain the stream URL and stream key for the broadcast. Enter them in OBS’s stream settings for the selected service, then confirm the encoder preview or incoming signal in Live Control Room before starting the public broadcast. YouTube explains encoder setup in its live encoder setup instructions.
- Treat the stream key like a password: do not share it or show it on screen. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- Check current access requirements before the first stream. YouTube’s live streaming access requirements state that channels need verification and no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days; the page also says streamers must be at least 16. Requirements and interface details can change, so check YouTube’s current help.
Clear rights for the ASMR recording before going live
A recording being relaxing, self-made, or already available online does not by itself establish permission to broadcast it. YouTube says it scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted material from another live broadcast. If it identifies third-party content that remains in the stream, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the broadcast. YouTube also notes that even licensed third-party material can be interrupted if the channel has not been allowlisted by the rights owner through Content ID.

Confirm that you have the rights needed for every audible and visible element, including music, samples, ambient recordings, and footage. YouTube’s copyright and rights guidance explains the platform’s expectations; it cannot certify whether a particular ASMR recording is cleared for your use.
Troubleshoot duplicate audio and loop problems

Does a long loop have a 12-hour limit?
YouTube’s 12-hour figure concerns DVR rewind: for streams longer than 12 hours, DVR may be limited or unavailable. It is not a stated limit on how long an OBS Media Source can repeat a file. Viewers may therefore have less ability to pause, resume, or rewind a very long live stream even while the encoder continues sending it.
