Yes. YouTube can detect Epidemic Sound music during a livestream even when you have a license. A live interruption is different from a Content ID claim on an archived recording: YouTube may warn, interrupt, or terminate a live stream if it detects third-party content that remains in the broadcast, while an archive can receive a Content ID claim after the stream ends. A license does not by itself guarantee that YouTube will recognize the use in time; for live use, the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist.
What can happen while you are live—and after the stream
| When | What YouTube says can happen | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| During the livestream | YouTube scans all livestreams for matches to third-party content. If it identifies a match, it may show a warning; if the content remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. Licensed content can still trigger this if the channel is not on the rights owner’s Content ID allowlist. YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams. | Before going live, verify that your license covers the intended use and ask the rights owner to add the correct YouTube channel to its allowlist for live matching. |
| After the stream, if you archive it | YouTube says Content ID claims on archived livestreams are made after the stream ends. YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams. | Review the recording in YouTube Studio. Compare the claimant and claimed track with the relevant timestamps and your license records. |
These are separate problems: allowlisting helps YouTube recognize a licensed channel during a live broadcast, while an archive claim is handled after the recording exists. A claim alone is not a copyright strike or takedown. Depending on the rights holder’s policy, a Content ID claim can monetize, track, or block a video; YouTube distinguishes claims from copyright takedowns and strikes. YouTube Help: Understand copyright claims.
Before using Epidemic Sound music in a livestream
Confirm that the license covers this use
Check the terms for your particular Epidemic Sound plan and the intended livestream and archive. The public claim guidance discussed below concerns long-form videos; it does not establish that every plan or track license covers every kind of livestream. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the content provider to hold and maintain the necessary rights, licenses, registrations, consents, and approvals for live and archived content throughout the stream. YouTube: Terms of Service for live streaming.
Link the right channel or video and arrange live allowlisting
Epidemic Sound’s claim guidance advises users to verify that the track is covered by a valid license and that the correct YouTube channel is connected to the subscription or the video URL is linked to the license. For a live broadcast, also confirm that the channel is allowlisted by the rights owner. YouTube specifically advises creators who have licensed third-party content to ask the owner to add their channel to its Content ID allowlist.

Epidemic Sound’s partner API documentation describes channel and video safelisting as registering a channel or video so licensed content can be recognized and protected from copyright claims. It notes that the time until full protection is active can vary by platform. This explains the safelisting mechanism, but it is not a substitute for checking your own plan terms or getting confirmation that live use is covered. Epidemic Sound: Safelisting.
Consider whether the stream is a listening experience
Epidemic Sound says its catalog is licensed to enhance original video or audio productions, not standalone listening experiences or content where visuals or narration are secondary to the music. A music-only radio-style stream, playlist, or similar listening experience may therefore fall outside the ordinary production-music use described by the service. Check the applicable terms rather than assuming that a track’s availability in the catalog settles this question. Epidemic Sound: Terms and policies.

If an archived livestream gets an Epidemic Sound claim
Epidemic Sound describes a claim on a long-form video as a case where YouTube detected its music but could not confirm that the user had a valid license. Its guidance recommends checking license validity, channel or video linkage, and whether the content complies with its license terms before disputing. Epidemic Sound Help Center: Why was a Content ID claim received from Epidemic Sound?
- Identify the claim. In YouTube Studio, review the claimant, the track identified, and the claimed timestamps in the archived video.
- Check your license and linkage. Confirm the track was covered by a valid license for the relevant use and that the correct channel was connected or the video URL was linked, as applicable.
- Check the use against the terms. In particular, consider whether the video is an original production or instead a standalone listening experience.
- Use the YouTube Studio dispute process if the claim is incorrect. Epidemic Sound advises users to confirm that the channel or video is properly safelisted and that an active subscription or valid license applied when the video was published. Its instructions address long-form-video claims; they do not promise that a dispute will prevent or reverse an interruption during an ongoing livestream.
What a Content ID claim does—and does not—mean
A claim is a rights-management action, not automatically a strike. YouTube says claims can apply monetization, tracking, or blocking policies; a copyright takedown and strike are distinct processes. Check the specific notice in YouTube Studio to see what policy applies and what options YouTube offers. YouTube Help: Understand copyright claims.

YouTube’s Content ID eligibility guidance concerns who can submit reference material for matching. It says reference material must be exclusively controlled in the territories where it is claimed; examples that cannot be used as reference material include music licensed without exclusivity. The guidance also notes that production-music libraries licensed at scale may require manual review. These rules about reference files do not mean that a creator’s valid license cannot be detected, and they do not remove the need to confirm allowlisting for live use. YouTube Help: Content eligible for Content ID.
Do not confuse Epidemic Sound with Creator Music
YouTube’s Creator Music FAQ says Creator Music currently does not support licensing for live content. That statement is specific to Creator Music; it does not determine what a separate Epidemic Sound license permits. Check the terms of the actual service and license you use.
