For local playback or modest video work, an Intel N100 mini PC is a reasonable low-power category to consider—but the available evidence does not establish a particular model as best or prove it can encode a continuous YouTube Live stream reliably. First decide whether you want to play a YouTube gaming VOD on a screen or retransmit prerecorded gameplay as a 24/7 live stream: those are different workloads, and the second may not need a PC at all.
First, define what “running a YouTube gaming VOD stream” means
A mini PC used to watch or play a VOD locally mainly needs to handle video playback. A mini PC that sends prerecorded gameplay to YouTube Live must also encode or pass through a live feed, maintain an internet connection, and recover from interruptions. A third option is to loop prerecorded videos through a cloud service, leaving a home computer out of the streaming path.
- Local playback: You are watching or displaying a video on a connected screen; the PC is not necessarily broadcasting anything.
- PC-based live stream: Software on the PC sends a continuous encoded feed to YouTube Live.
- Cloud-based VOD stream: An online service loops uploaded footage and sends it to YouTube Live.
Is an Intel N100 mini PC a suitable low-power starting point?
Intel lists the N100 at 6 W TDP, with four cores and four threads, a maximum turbo frequency of 3.40 GHz, UHD Graphics with 24 execution units, and Quick Sync Video. Those are processor specifications, not a measurement of a complete mini PC’s wall consumption, nor proof that a given system can encode your chosen stream settings continuously. There are N100 mini PCs with differing system designs and power limits. For example, CNX Software’s 2024 review of the MINIX NEO Z100-0dB describes a system with 16 GB RAM and a 512 GB M.2 SSD, and reports power-limit differences versus another N100 mini PC. That review is useful context for model variation, but it is not a long-duration YouTube encoding test. CNX Software’s MINIX review

What to check before buying
- Exact encoder and software support: Confirm the hardware encoder, codec, resolution and frame rate are supported together by the software and operating system you plan to use. Video decode capability does not by itself prove encode capability.
- Sustained thermals: Look for model-specific evidence about cooling and behavior under a prolonged encode load. A processor name alone cannot establish continuous performance.
- Memory and storage: Size these for your software and the footage you will keep locally. If the videos remain on the PC, account for their storage needs.
- Power and connectivity: Prefer wired Ethernet where practical for a stationary stream, but check that your internet upload capacity is sufficient. Ask for wall-power readings under idle, playback and encode load before estimating electricity cost.
- Warranty and support: Check the exact model’s warranty, replacement process and support terms. The evidence here does not establish a mini-PC lifetime or failure rate.
Can a mini PC meet YouTube Live’s encoder settings?
YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS ingest and H.264, H.265/HEVC or AV1 encoding, with frame rates up to 60 fps. It recommends constant bitrate (CBR) encoding and a two-second keyframe interval; the interval should not exceed four seconds. These are YouTube’s published requirements and recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular mini PC and software combination can produce them. These are YouTube’s recommended stream bitrates, not universal minimum internet speeds. Available upload bandwidth must exceed the total stream bitrate, with extra headroom for network variation and other household use. Test the whole setup, not just the processor
- Set the encoder to the intended resolution, frame rate, codec and CBR bitrate. Use a two-second keyframe interval and do not exceed four seconds.
- Send a private or unlisted test stream using representative gameplay footage, including motion and audio, before relying on the setup for a continuous broadcast.
- Check YouTube stream health and the encoder’s own logs or status. Look for dropped frames, connection instability, audio problems and whether the PC sustains the encode without thermal or performance issues.
- Confirm the wired or wireless upload connection has margin above the full stream bitrate. Other household traffic can reduce available upload capacity.
Do you need a mini PC to stream prerecorded videos 24/7?
If your goal is to loop or schedule existing gameplay videos as a YouTube Live stream, a dedicated PC is only one approach. The N100’s 6 W TDP is a processor rating; it is not the electricity draw of the full mini PC. A display, storage, power supply, peripherals and workload all affect wall consumption. No directly comparable wall-power measurement for a complete N100 system running this exact workload is established here, so an annual energy bill cannot be calculated responsibly from TDP alone.

Compare the mini PC’s purchase price plus storage, accessories, software and electricity against any cloud service you are considering. A wired Ethernet connection is a sensible preference when feasible, but it cannot fix inadequate upload capacity. Copyright and channel considerations
Using a video as a VOD does not automatically establish that you have the rights to rebroadcast it as a live stream. Confirm that you have permission for the gameplay footage, music, voice chat and other included material, and check YouTube’s applicable copyright and live-stream rules before looping it. Repeatedly streaming prerecorded material also does not guarantee channel monetization or audience growth; assess the channel’s originality and policy eligibility independently.

If the job is simply to loop prerecorded gameplay continuously, compare a cloud approach before buying hardware.
