You can stream an Assamese radio program to YouTube from a home computer with YouTube Live Control Room and a streaming encoder. First confirm that your channel is eligible, then create a stream in YouTube Studio, connect the encoder with the stream URL and key, and test the actual audio and visual before going live. The steps are the same for Assamese and other languages; the language affects your program and audience, not the encoder connection.
Before you start: confirm your channel can go live
Check eligibility before setting a broadcast date. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. You must also be at least 16 to live stream. If this is your first time enabling live streaming, activation can take up to 24 hours, so do not wait until the show is about to begin. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- A YouTube channel you can access and verify.
- A computer connected to the internet and an encoder application or hardware encoder.
- Your program audio: a microphone for live speech, or an audio source for prerecorded material.
- A visual to accompany the program, such as a title card, still image, or waveform. Use artwork you own or are licensed to use.
A radio-style program is audio-led, but plan a visual as part of the encoder setup and verify it in YouTube’s preview. The official guidance describes video and audio stream settings; it does not establish that YouTube categorically bans audio-only streams.
Create the YouTube stream and connect your encoder
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create a new stream or schedule one for later. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup guide if you need the current Studio workflow.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key. Enter both in the encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: do not share it publicly, and reset it if you believe it has been exposed.
- Set your audio and visual sources. For a live host, select the intended microphone or audio interface. For prerecorded or desktop audio, select the source that actually carries the program. Add your title card or other visual and check that it is visible in the encoder output.
- Start the encoder, but do not assume the show is live yet. Wait for YouTube Live Control Room to receive the incoming stream and display its preview. For a scheduled encoder broadcast, use the Control Room’s Go live control after the preview appears.
- Check the preview and audio from another device if possible. Confirm that the visual is correct, the program is audible, levels are not too loud, and desktop audio is neither muted nor duplicated. Then start the broadcast and keep the Control Room open to monitor stream health.
Choose reliable encoder settings
YouTube’s encoder settings guidance recommends RTMP or RTMPS (use RTMPS where supported), constant bitrate (CBR), and a keyframe interval of two seconds, not exceeding four seconds. YouTube lists AAC or MP3 for audio; for stereo, its advanced settings list 44.1 kHz sample rate and 128 kbps audio bitrate.

Choose video resolution and bitrate according to your computer and measured upload capacity, rather than assuming a particular setting will work on every home connection. YouTube recommends keeping upload capacity headroom of 20%. Its streaming tips also advise testing before broadcast, checking the preview, and monitoring audio, video, and stream-health messages while live. These are YouTube-published recommendations, not a guarantee that your computer or connection can sustain a given profile.
Protect the program’s music and artwork rights
Use only music, recordings, images, and other material for which you have the rights needed for a YouTube live stream. A purchase or permission for one use does not necessarily authorize broadcasting it on YouTube; requirements can depend on the catalog and territory. Review YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions and clear rights for every item in the program.

YouTube says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” If a match remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. Even when you have a license, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist to prevent an interruption. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
Troubleshoot common problems
- Live streaming is not available. Check channel verification and restriction eligibility, and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- YouTube does not show an incoming preview. Confirm the encoder is running and that the stream URL and key match the stream you created in Live Control Room. Keep the key private; reset it if compromised.
- The preview appears, but there is no program audio. Check the encoder’s selected input and its meters, then listen on a second device. Verify that the intended microphone, interface, or desktop playback source is selected and not muted.
- The stream health reports problems or playback stutters. Check your upload capacity and reduce the video resolution or bitrate if the connection cannot sustain the selected profile. Preserve the recommended upload headroom rather than using all available bandwidth.
- The live stream is interrupted after music begins. A Content ID match may have triggered an interruption. Stop using material unless you have the necessary rights, and contact the rights holder about channel allowlisting if you hold a license.
