A “24/7” channel takes more than starting one broadcast: plan session handoffs, monitoring, and a local recording. YouTube automatically archives streams under 12 hours, but warns that longer streams may not be captured at all.
Prepare the channel, program and rights
Enable live streaming in advance
If this is the channel’s first live stream, verify the account and enable live access ahead of time. YouTube for Artists advises doing this at least 24 hours before the first stream: YouTube for Artists: Get started with live streaming. The workflow is the same for creators in India; the reviewed YouTube guidance does not establish a separate India-only technical setup.
Decide what viewers will see and hear
Choose whether the broadcast is a live performance, a sequence of recordings, or a looped program with visuals. For a continuous channel, prepare the order of pieces, transitions, any spoken introductions, and the visual scene before starting the encoder. A static album-art scene may be less demanding to encode than a concert camera, but test the actual material and setup rather than assuming a still image will solve connection or quality problems.
Clear every element used
Check rights for each recording, performance, composition, and visual element. A traditional or classical composition is not automatically free to use: a particular performance or recording can still be protected. Coordinate with the label, distributor, performers, or other relevant rights owners where needed. The available platform guidance does not establish a specific India-law conclusion for a particular repertoire or recording; verify the rights that apply to your content and get India-specific legal advice if necessary.

Create a YouTube encoder stream and connect OBS
- Create the stream in YouTube Studio. Set up or schedule a live stream using an encoder. In the Live Control Room, locate the server URL and stream key for that stream. YouTube’s instructions are at Stream using an encoder.
- Enter the connection details in OBS. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube as the service where available, and supply the stream key. If using a custom server option, enter YouTube’s server URL as well. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send a feed to your channel’s stream.
- Set up the program scene. Add the audio source and any video, artwork, or other permitted visual elements to the OBS scene. Check that the correct sources are active, that the audio is audible and not clipping, and that the scene does not expose private information or unlicensed artwork.
- Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Start streaming in OBS so it sends content to YouTube. YouTube creates the watch page when the encoder begins sending content. Before making the stream public or announcing it, check the Live Control Room preview and stream-health status, then listen to the output viewers will receive.
Choose OBS settings your connection can sustain
YouTube recommends RTMP/RTMPS for encoder streaming, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; its guidance says not to exceed four seconds. Its bitrate recommendations depend on codec, resolution, and frame rate. The following H.264 examples are YouTube recommendations, not guarantees that your internet connection can maintain them: YouTube encoder settings and bitrates.
| H.264 output | YouTube recommended bitrate |
|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 6 Mbps |
Check the current YouTube guidance for other resolutions, frame rates, and codecs; do not apply one bitrate figure to every setup. Your sustainable outbound upload speed is the practical constraint. Run an upload speed test, select a bitrate with headroom below the connection’s reliable capacity, and test using audio and movement similar to the planned program. If stream health reports instability, reduce the output demand and test again rather than choosing settings solely for maximum resolution.

- Use CBR and set the keyframe interval to two seconds, staying within YouTube’s stated maximum of four seconds.
- Match the resolution and frame rate to the source material and the upload capacity you can sustain.
- During a test, watch YouTube’s stream-health messages and listen to the public output for dropouts, distortion, or incorrect source levels.
- An Ethernet cable is an optional way to connect the streaming computer to the router. YouTube requires adequate outbound connectivity, but does not require a wired connection or promise that Ethernet prevents outages.
Plan session handoffs and preserve the archive
Do not treat a single broadcast as a guaranteed 24/7 archive. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; if a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. That is an archive warning, not evidence that YouTube necessarily ends every stream at 12 hours. See YouTube’s live stream archiving guidance.
- Schedule successive sessions. Plan when one broadcast will end and the next will begin, and decide how viewers will be informed about any handoff. YouTube’s reviewed guidance does not establish a maximum stream duration.
- Keep a local recording when preservation matters. A local copy gives you a separate record if the platform does not capture a long stream. Monitor the recording process and check that the local archive file continues growing.
- Monitor the live operation. Check OBS, YouTube stream health, audio output, and local recording during the broadcast. A 24/7 programming goal requires an operator or a planned operating setup; it should not be presented as a guarantee of uninterrupted service.
Understand copyright checks and possible interruptions
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. A license does not necessarily stop an automated live interruption: YouTube advises creators who have licensed third-party content to ask the rights owner to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Archived live videos may also receive Content ID claims after the broadcast. Read YouTube’s live-streaming copyright guidance and coordinate with the label or distributor before using protected music.

Live Content ID matching is not a general workaround for using music owned by someone else. YouTube describes it as a specialist Content Manager feature for eligible partners, requiring global rights and exclusive ownership of the material included. See YouTube Content ID eligibility and requirements and YouTube live Content ID matching.
Troubleshoot common OBS-to-YouTube problems
- YouTube shows no incoming signal: Confirm OBS is streaming, the selected YouTube stream is the intended one, and the server URL and stream key match that stream. If uncertain whether the key is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- The preview appears, but the feed is unstable: Check YouTube stream health and reduce the output bitrate or resolution until the actual upload connection can sustain it. Retest with the real program content.
- Audio is missing, distorted, or too loud: Check the active OBS audio source, mixer levels, and listening output; correct clipping or mute states before announcing the stream.
- The stream is interrupted after music starts: Check for YouTube copyright notices. If the music is licensed, contact the rights owner about allowlisting the channel; do not assume a license alone prevents live matching.
- A long broadcast is absent from the archive: YouTube warns that streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. Use the local recording for preservation and plan shorter successive sessions.
Or let it run in the cloud
For uploaded recordings rather than a camera performance, StreamNeo is an alternative way to keep a YouTube channel playing without leaving OBS or a computer running at home. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded program from the cloud; it does not broadcast a live camera feed.
