You can use software on a computer; a dedicated hardware encoder is not required for a simple pre-produced audio stream. The main risks to plan for are copyright interruptions, an unstable playback or internet setup, and the fact that YouTube does not automatically archive a continuous stream of 12 hours or longer.
What you need before starting
Plan the stream as both a music-rights project and a continuous technical operation. A Tamil composition, a particular performance, and a recording of that performance can involve different rights holders. A recording being old, devotional, classical, or described as “free” does not by itself establish that you may broadcast it worldwide.
- A YouTube channel that is verified, has live streaming enabled, and has no live-streaming restriction within the preceding 90 days.
- Written permission covering the exact recordings and compositions, worldwide live transmission on YouTube, and any replay or archive use you intend to offer.
- An encoder and a stable source of playback, plus an operator who can monitor the stream and respond to alerts or failures.
- Artwork or other visual material you have permission to use, if the stream will show a still image or visual scene alongside the music.
YouTube’s live-stream terms place responsibility on the provider to obtain all rights needed for worldwide use on Google services, including music rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. The official terms do not determine whether any specific kriti, performance, concert recording, or catalog is public domain or cleared. Check each item and the relevant territories rather than assuming that a general license covers the full playlist.
Clear the music and archive rights
Build a rights ledger for every track
Keep a record for each recording and composition in the rotation. Identify the recording owner, composition or publishing interests, performers and other royalty participants as relevant. Record which territories are covered and whether the permission includes continuous live transmission, YouTube distribution, and replay or archive availability. If you cannot verify a track’s status, leave it out until you can.

Ask for permission in writing and describe the intended use plainly: an ongoing YouTube livestream available to listeners worldwide, with any planned archive or replay use stated separately. Keep copies of permissions and any limits they impose, such as territories, dates, attribution, or restrictions on monetization.
Coordinate Content ID before going live
YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. If it identifies material, it may replace the stream with a placeholder; if the identified content remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the broadcast. A license does not necessarily stop an automated interruption. For licensed third-party music, contact the rights owner in advance and ask them to add the channel to their Content ID allowlist. Confirm the correct channel is covered before the test broadcast.

YouTube advises using public-domain music or music used with permission for copyright-safe use. A label such as “free” is not proof that a track is cleared, and a track can still trigger Content ID. YouTube Creator Music licenses and revenue-sharing tracks are for long-form videos, not live streams, so do not treat a Creator Music license as permission for this broadcast.
Choose an encoding method
YouTube supports both software encoders and standalone hardware encoders. Choose based on the actual production needs, not on the assumption that a 24/7 music stream requires a special device.

YouTube’s verified encoder information includes AWS Elemental MediaLive as a broadcast-grade live video processing service and CamStreamer as a camera-integrated app supporting continuous streams. These are examples, not YouTube products or endorsements, and their suitability for an audio-first Tamil classical music stream needs to be checked directly.
Set up the YouTube encoder workflow
- Check channel eligibility. In YouTube Studio, confirm the channel is verified, live streaming is available, and no restriction in the past 90 days blocks the planned broadcast. Resolve an eligibility issue before configuring a long-running stream.
- Prepare the playlist and visuals. Assemble only the recordings and compositions cleared for the planned territories and uses. Confirm that the playback order, transitions, and any visual material are intentional and authorized. Keep a separate, current copy of the playlist and rights ledger for the operator.
- Create the stream in YouTube Studio. Open the Live Control Room and create or configure the live stream using the current options presented there. YouTube’s encoder setup workflow provides a server URL and stream key for the encoder.
- Protect the stream key. Copy the server URL and stream key from the Live Control Room into the corresponding encoder fields. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, show it on screen, or send it to people who do not operate the stream. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in Studio before relying on it.
- Configure the encoder for the source. Select the intended audio and video inputs, output resolution, and encoding settings supported by your encoder. Use the current YouTube recommendations displayed for your stream and encoder rather than guessing a bitrate or keyframe interval; the applicable settings depend on the output format and are not specified here. Make sure the chosen output matches the source and that the encoder reports a stable connection before the public launch.
- Check the preview before starting. Start the encoder output and verify that the Live Control Room receives it. Listen to the preview for clean audio, correct levels, silence between items, clipping, and unwanted gaps. Check that the artwork or video appears as expected and that the stream is not showing private material or the stream key.
- Run a monitored test. Test the complete playlist and operating process before announcing the continuous stream. Have an operator watch encoder status, YouTube alerts, audio continuity, and the live preview. Test the recovery procedure and any backup source that the setup actually supports; do not assume a failover exists without testing it.
- Start the public stream and keep an operator responsible. Once rights, preview, and audio checks pass, begin streaming. Keep a named operator able to respond to a copyright notice, loss of source audio, encoder disconnection, or other interruption. A stream that is technically online is not necessarily playing correctly or cleared for continued use.
Plan the archive separately
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is not a promise that one continuous 24/7 broadcast will create a complete replay archive. If listeners need individual concerts or a reliable replay of particular items, treat those as separate deliverables: obtain the necessary replay rights, make authorized recordings or source files, and confirm YouTube’s current handling for long continuous events before launch.

Keep the stream useful for listeners in different regions
A global stream needs clear information as well as uninterrupted playback. Use a title and description that accurately identify the music and the nature of the broadcast; state the schedule or playlist approach if it helps listeners know what they are hearing. Make sure any performer, recording, or attribution details you publish are accurate and consistent with the permissions. Do not promise a complete archive unless you have both the rights and a separate process to provide one.
There is no audience-size estimate established here for Tamil classical music livestreams, so choose operating hours and promotion based on your own goals rather than assuming a particular level of global demand. Maintain a log of stream start and stop times, playlist changes, rights alerts, and operator actions; this helps you diagnose problems without confusing a platform interruption with a rights clearance.
