Choose a device with 16 GB RAM, an SSD, wired Ethernet, and cooling intended for sustained use, then test it with your actual file, scene, and stream settings before relying on it unattended. A processor’s power rating does not tell you what the complete PC draws at the wall.
What makes a mini PC suitable for an OBS loop?
The workload matters more than the label “mini PC.” Playing one video in a simple scene is lighter than combining multiple high-resolution sources, browser overlays, filters, capture devices, or simultaneous recording. OBS cautions that “Having a compatible system does not guarantee that it is capable of streaming or recording using OBS Studio,” and says the CPU demand depends on encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. For an initial shortlist, look for an Intel N100-class processor, 16 GB RAM, SSD storage, and wired networking. Intel’s N100 specification page describes the processor, but does not certify any mini PC’s cooling, BIOS, ports, noise, wall power, or long-run reliability. Treat the processor class as a candidate, not a guarantee.
Check hardware encoding in your actual setup
OBS generally recommends hardware encoding because it shifts encoding work from the CPU to a specialized component. Compatible Intel graphics can support Quick Sync Video (QSV) on Windows and Linux, but the encoder’s availability and behavior depend on the graphics adapter, operating system, and driver configuration. Confirm that OBS exposes a working hardware encoder on the exact device you plan to use; consult OBS’s hardware encoding guidance.

Do not infer whole-system power or reliability from the CPU
A processor specification is not a measurement of the complete mini PC at idle, playback, or live encoding. Nor does it establish that a particular model will stay cool and stable through your intended run length. If electricity use, fan noise, or unattended operation matters, measure and assess the actual system under your workload.
How to choose between specific mini PCs
The evidence available here does not establish a controlled comparison of named models, wall-power figures, or verified 24/7 endurance. Avoid treating any model as a winner without checking the device’s exact configuration and sustained behavior. Compare candidates against these points:

- Encoder: Does OBS show a hardware encoder that works with the current operating system and graphics driver?
- Sustained operation: Does cooling keep the device stable for the planned run length, without thermal trouble?
- Workload capacity: Can it play the source file while encoding and handling your actual overlays, filters, or other scene elements?
- Network: Does it have wired Ethernet, and is the internet upload path reliable?
- Expansion: Are memory, SSD capacity, and ports adequate for any audio or capture peripherals?
- Practical ownership: What are measured wall power and noise under load, and what warranty, support, price, and unattended restart behavior does the specific device offer?
A useful search phrase is “Intel N100 mini PC 16GB RAM SSD.” It identifies a plausible class of candidate, not a vetted model or promise of continuous-stream performance.
Set YouTube and OBS for the stream
For an H.264 encoder stream, YouTube’s guidance specifies RTMP or RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), a recommended two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds), and up to 60 fps. YouTube recommends RTMPS to encrypt the connection to its servers. The listed bitrates are ingestion recommendations—not guarantees of image quality or proof that your connection can sustain them. Check YouTube’s current live encoder settings before configuring a broadcast.

These figures are YouTube’s recommendations for the listed H.264 output modes. Choose settings that fit your source, desired output, and stable upload capacity; a higher bitrate does not compensate for an unstable connection.
Protect upload headroom and verify the whole path
YouTube recommends leaving about 20% bandwidth headroom. Compare the stream’s total bitrate with the upload capacity available during the broadcast, rather than relying only on a headline speed-test result. YouTube also recommends testing ahead of time, checking the Live Control Room preview, and monitoring stream health and messages. Its streaming tips explain this preflight guidance.

Test the mini PC before leaving it unattended
- Build the intended OBS scene. Use the actual prerecorded file and include the overlays, filters, audio, or other sources you expect to run. A simple test scene cannot validate a more demanding final setup.
- Select the real output settings. Set the intended encoder, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, CBR mode, and keyframe interval. For YouTube H.264, use the platform guidance above as the starting point.
- Connect through the intended network. Prefer the wired Ethernet connection you plan to use and verify that upload bandwidth has headroom for the total stream bitrate.
- Run a representative stream test. Let the loop run for a duration that reflects your expected use. Watch OBS for encoder overload and dropped frames, and watch the device for heat-related instability.
- Check YouTube’s side of the connection. Confirm the preview and stream health in Live Control Room; verify the video and audio quality rather than assuming a successful connection means a successful presentation.
- Test recovery and restart behavior. Observe what happens if the connection or stream is interrupted, and whether the specific PC and setup recover as you need. Do not assume a product-specific automatic restart or reconnection feature without verifying it.
Testing the actual file, scene, encoder, output settings, network, and run length is the most defensible way to decide whether a candidate is adequate. A short successful test does not establish long-term reliability.

YouTube’s encoder setup help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. The cited guidance does not establish the same archive outcome for sessions longer than 12 hours, so do not rely on an automatic archive for a longer broadcast.
