No. Super Chat revenue does not count toward YouTube’s livestream watch-hour threshold. Super Chat is money a viewer pays to highlight a live-chat message; qualified watch hours measure eligible viewing time. A public livestream may contribute hours if it is converted to a video on demand (VOD), but the payment itself adds no watch time.
Super Chat money and watch hours are separate
| Item | What it measures | What it affects |
|---|---|---|
| Super Chat | A viewer’s payment to highlight a message in live chat | Fan-funding revenue, subject to feature eligibility, applicable module terms, and regional availability |
| Qualified public watch hours | Eligible viewing time from public long-form videos, which may include qualifying livestream archives | Watch-hour eligibility thresholds for the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) |
A larger Super Chat does not create additional hours, and a stream can earn eligible watch time even if nobody sends a Super Chat. YouTube lists Super Chat as a monetization feature separately from qualified watch hours in its YPP feature guidance and watch-hour eligibility guidance.
When livestream viewing can count toward YPP hours
It is the viewing of the livestream—not its Super Chat total—that may contribute to the long-form watch-hour measure. YouTube excludes livestreams that are unlisted, deleted, or not converted to VOD from the watch-hour threshold. Keeping an eligible public archive available matters; do not assume that every live minute automatically qualifies.
To check your channel’s own eligibility progress, open YouTube Studio and select Earn. Channel applications are reviewed against YouTube’s channel monetization policies, so reaching a numeric threshold alone does not guarantee YPP acceptance or access to every feature. See YouTube’s YPP eligibility overview and monetization feature requirements.

Current YPP thresholds and separate revenue shares
YouTube Help’s current guidance, checked in 2026, lists the following routes. The Help pages reviewed do not display an original publication year for these figures, so treat them as current guidance rather than a permanent guarantee.
| YPP route | Long-form route | Shorts alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Expanded entry tier | 500 subscribers, 3 public uploads in the last 90 days, and 3,000 qualified long-form watch hours in the last 365 days | 3 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days |
| Higher ad-eligibility tier | 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 qualified long-form watch hours in the last 365 days | 10 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days |
These thresholds determine eligibility routes, not a conversion between fan payments and viewing time. YouTube also describes separate module revenue-share terms for eligible partners: 70% of net revenues from channel memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and Super Thanks under the Commerce Product Module, and 55% of net revenues from Watch Page ads under the Watch Page Monetization Module. They are distinct revenue categories; they do not state what a particular livestream or Super Chat will earn. YouTube says partner earnings are not guaranteed. Super Chat access is not automatic when hours qualify
Meeting a YPP watch-hour threshold does not by itself switch on Super Chat. The feature has its own eligibility requirements, requires acceptance of the relevant module terms, and is available only in supported countries or regions. Check the Earn area in YouTube Studio and YouTube’s current feature requirements for your account and location.
What to check if your hours or earnings look different
- Hours are not appearing: Confirm the stream was public and its archive was converted to VOD and retained. Unlisted, deleted, and non-VOD livestreams are excluded from the threshold.
- You have hours but no Super Chat: Check feature eligibility, module acceptance, and regional availability; the YPP hour threshold is a separate measure.
- You expected a payment from viewing: Super Chat is a fan payment. Watch Page ads and YouTube Premium are separate viewing-related monetization mechanisms with their own rules; review account-specific earnings in YouTube Studio.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded documentaries or other recorded videos live on YouTube around the clock, StreamNeo is a separate operational option—not a way to generate qualified hours through Super Chat. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not need to stay on.
