You can use OBS as an encoder to broadcast Malayalam nursery rhymes on YouTube from India, but a single uninterrupted stream is not a dependable way to guarantee either continuous playback or a complete YouTube archive. For an archive you can rely on, plan shorter sessions, keep a local recording, and confirm you have rights to every song, recording, and visual in the program.
Check that your channel can livestream
Before setting up OBS, check livestream eligibility in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s current guidance, accessed October 3, 2026, says the channel must be verified and must not have had a livestream restriction during the previous 90 days. YouTube also states that streamers must be at least 16. An encoder is one of YouTube’s supported ways to go live.
If the channel is not eligible, resolve that first. Do not plan a broadcast around a stream key or OBS configuration until YouTube Studio allows the channel to livestream.
Clear the rights for the complete program
For a nursery-rhyme stream, check rights separately for the lyrics or composition, the particular arrangement, the sound recording, and any artwork or animation. A familiar or traditional melody does not by itself establish that a modern arrangement, recording, or video is free to use. YouTube’s live-stream terms require creators to have the necessary rights for live content worldwide, including relevant music rights.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. A detected match may cause a placeholder to replace the stream, interrupt it, or terminate it. Even if you have a licence, ask the rights holder whether your channel needs to be added to the Content ID allowlist; YouTube says a licensed stream can still be interrupted if it is not allowlisted. Material labelled “free” is not automatically safe from Content ID claims.
- Keep records showing what you are permitted to use and for which purposes.
- Check that permissions cover live use and, if you plan to keep an archive, the resulting recording too.
- Confirm permission for the visuals as well as the audio.
- Follow applicable local requirements. The YouTube guidance cited here does not establish an India-specific licensing procedure or legal exemption.
Prepare the program and OBS
Use a computer that can run OBS and play your prepared video reliably. YouTube says expensive equipment is not required; if you already have suitable hardware, start with it rather than buying a camera or microphone for a stream made from prepared animation and audio.

- Prepare a rights-cleared program. Assemble the nursery rhymes, visuals, and transitions you intend to broadcast. Check the finished file from beginning to end, including its audio, before scheduling the stream.
- Load the program in OBS. Add the prepared video as a media source. If you want it to repeat, use the loop or repeat control available in your installed OBS version and test that playback actually restarts as intended. OBS menus and controls can change; the YouTube setup guidance cited here does not verify current OBS menu names.
- Choose the encoder route in YouTube Studio. In Live Control Room, create or manage the broadcast and choose the encoder option. Follow the current YouTube prompts for the broadcast and its stream key.
- Connect OBS to the broadcast. Enter the stream key supplied for that broadcast in OBS’s YouTube streaming connection settings. Treat the key as private; if it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio before using it again.
- Set video and audio output for your actual system. Use current YouTube encoder recommendations and settings that your computer and upload connection can sustain. There is no verified bitrate, resolution, keyframe interval, or reconnect value in the guidance used for this article, so a fixed number here could be wrong for your setup. Do not assume that a higher setting is better if it makes the connection unstable.
- Start early and check the preview. YouTube recommends setting up an encoder event at least two hours ahead. Confirm that the Live Control Room preview shows the intended video and that the audio is audible and synchronized before starting the public broadcast.
Do not treat OBS’s preview alone as proof that the public stream is healthy. Check the preview in Live Control Room and monitor audio and video quality after the broadcast begins.
Plan sessions around YouTube’s archive limit
YouTube Help says streams shorter than 12 hours may be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A nominal 24-hour broadcast therefore should not be your only copy of the program or its recording. YouTube also recommends monitoring local archive files and checking that they are growing and playable.

Choose based on whether uninterrupted playback or a dependable archive matters more. For either approach, check the local recording while it is being made and play it back to confirm it is intact. Set the resulting YouTube archive to public, unlisted, or private using the normal Studio controls according to your distribution plan.
Set the audience accurately for child-directed content
If the nursery-rhyme stream is directed to children, set its audience as Made for Kids. YouTube can override an inaccurate audience choice, so do not select “not made for kids” simply to retain features.

YouTube says Made for Kids content loses features including live chat, comments, notifications, personalized advertising, Super Chat, and Super Stickers. Other features, such as saving the content to playlists and channel memberships or merchandise on the content, are also restricted. Contextual ads may still appear subject to YouTube’s live-stream restrictions. Plan your interaction and monetization expectations around the correct audience setting.

- You cannot start the broadcast: Recheck channel verification, the preceding 90-day restriction history, age eligibility, and the broadcast setup in Live Control Room.
- The preview is missing or wrong: Confirm that OBS is sending the intended scene and prepared program, then check the Live Control Room preview before continuing.
- The stream is interrupted after music or visuals appear: YouTube may have detected third-party content. Review the warning, stop or replace the matched material, and check whether the rights holder must allowlist your channel. A licence alone may not prevent an interruption.
- The archive is missing or incomplete: A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Check the local recording for a usable copy and use shorter planned sessions if a YouTube archive matters.
- The local recording is absent or stops growing: Check the recording output and available storage in OBS, then verify that a completed file plays. YouTube recommends confirming that local archive files are growing and checking their integrity.
- Chat or other audience features are unavailable: Check the Made for Kids setting and YouTube’s restrictions for that designation. Do not change an accurate child-directed classification to recover disabled features.
- Video or audio quality is unstable: Check the encoder preview and ongoing feed, then use current YouTube guidance to choose output settings your computer and connection can sustain. The evidence here does not establish a universal bitrate or upload-speed target.
