The PC, power supply, and internet connection must keep working for the stream to stay live; “24/7” is the intended schedule, not a guarantee of uninterrupted availability. This guide covers setup, settings, children’s-audience restrictions, rights, monitoring, and recovery.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel that is verified and eligible for live streaming. YouTube says a channel must have no live-streaming restriction within the previous 90 days. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
- A Windows mini PC capable of encoding your chosen resolution and frame rate for sustained operation. YouTube does not publish a minimum Windows mini PC specification for this workload.
- A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the stream bitrate plus headroom.
- Animation, music, and other material that you are authorized to broadcast live, including any use and territories you plan to monetize.
- An encoder such as OBS Studio, and the stream URL and key supplied in YouTube Live Control Room.
A stream is a chain of dependencies: the encoder produces video and audio, the PC sends them over the network, and YouTube receives and distributes the feed. A reboot, software update, encoder error, power problem, internet interruption, or platform restriction can break that chain. Plan for monitoring and recovery rather than treating a successful start as proof of continuous operation.
Set up the channel and prepare your content
Confirm live-stream eligibility
Check channel verification and live-stream access before buying hardware or building a schedule. If the channel is not eligible, the encoder setup cannot make it eligible. YouTube’s requirements and any restriction notices are the authority for your account status: Live streaming on YouTube.
Clear the animation and audio for continuous streaming
Rights must cover the actual material in the feed: visuals, characters, soundtrack, and any other included content. Obtain and retain licenses that expressly allow continuous live streaming, the territories you will serve, and any monetization you intend. Owning a DVD or digital copy, or finding a clip online, does not by itself establish permission to retransmit it.

YouTube warns that a live stream matching another copyrighted live broadcast or receiving a copyright strike can lead to restrictions. Review YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams. No general license can be assumed for a particular animation or music catalog; verify the rights for each item.
Set the audience accurately
If the animation channel is made for kids, designate the audience accordingly in the broadcast settings. Do not choose an audience setting simply to preserve features or advertising options. YouTube’s made-for-kids designation disables live chat, live chat replay, comments on stream archives and upcoming streams, and reminders; personalized advertising is disabled, though contextual advertising may still appear. If people participate on camera or in the live production, check YouTube’s age-related rules for streamers and people appearing in streams. For an animation-only feed with no live human participation, the rules about minors appearing on camera are not the central setup issue.
Choose a mini PC and stream workload
There is no sourced universal minimum processor, memory amount, or mini PC model for a 24/7 OBS stream. Suitability depends on resolution, frame rate, codec, software versus hardware encoding, overlays, whether you record locally at the same time, and how well the device handles heat over long sessions. Evaluate the exact model under the workload you intend to run rather than relying on a generic “mini PC” label.

- Check that the system and encoder support the selected codec and any hardware encoder you plan to use.
- Consider sustained cooling and thermal behavior, not just short benchmark performance.
- Check network connectivity and whether a wired Ethernet connection is practical for the installation.
- If you need unattended recovery, consider remote access and a reliable way to restart the PC or encoder.
- If a power interruption is a concern, a UPS is an optional resilience measure, not a guarantee that the stream will continue.
YouTube’s encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS ingest, but the PC, encoder, and workflow must support the codec you choose. H.264 is a straightforward baseline when compatibility is the priority. The platform settings are not a certification of any mini PC’s ability to sustain them.
Pick resolution, bitrate, and encoder settings
Start with a target the computer can encode steadily and the internet connection can upload with headroom. YouTube recommends 10 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p and 30 fps, constant bitrate, and a two-second keyframe interval. It also recommends RTMPS for an encrypted connection. These are platform recommendations, not a promise that a particular connection or computer will perform reliably. See YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrates.

YouTube says the total stream bitrate should not exceed available upload bandwidth and recommends roughly 20% upload capacity beyond the bitrate. That margin helps accommodate variation; it does not eliminate outages or contention. Shared connections may provide less capacity to the PC than a plan’s headline rate suggests. OBS explains that unstable or insufficient connections can cause dropped frames; watch its connection indicator and dropped-frame counter. Configure OBS and connect it to YouTube
- Install and open OBS Studio. Use the Auto-Configuration Wizard for a starting configuration, then verify the resulting output settings against your target resolution, frame rate, codec, and connection. OBS recommends using the wizard as a baseline and tuning to your needs; see OBS streaming guidance.
- Build the scene. Add the animation source and audio source you have rights to stream. Check that the picture fills the intended canvas, audio is audible without clipping, and any overlays are legible. If you are using a playlist or media source, test transitions and what happens when the item ends.
- Create a broadcast in YouTube Live Control Room. Add the title, description, schedule or other metadata you need, and set the audience accurately, including made-for-kids status where applicable.
- Copy the ingest details from YouTube. In the encoder connection settings, enter YouTube’s stream URL and stream key. Keep the key private: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your channel. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube and update OBS.
- Set the output. Use a constant bitrate, a two-second keyframe interval, a supported codec, and a resolution and frame rate that the PC and connection have demonstrated they can sustain. For H.264 at 1080p30, YouTube’s recommendation is 10 Mbps.
- Use RTMPS where available. YouTube recommends RTMPS for an encrypted connection. Select the RTMPS server URL offered by YouTube if your encoder presents the choice.
- Start a test stream before publishing the routine. Check the YouTube Live Control Room preview and stream health, then verify picture, audio, and any local recording. Use representative animation motion and the full intended runtime where practical; a brief test cannot establish long-term reliability.
Test, monitor, and plan for interruptions
Monitor both ends of the chain: OBS’s dropped-frame counter and connection status, and YouTube Live Control Room’s preview and stream health. For a fixed installation, wired Ethernet and a UPS may reduce some avoidable risks, but neither guarantees continuity. Test any backup connection, encoder, or restart method before relying on it.

- Decide who will notice a failed feed and how they will be contacted.
- Document how to restart OBS, restore the scene, and restart or reconnect the YouTube broadcast.
- Keep the stream key private and make sure an authorized operator can retrieve or replace it if needed.
- Plan how to handle local recordings and YouTube archives, including storage capacity and review of completed segments.
YouTube’s encoder setup guidance says live streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A continuous channel therefore needs an archive and segmentation plan: decide how to preserve or review useful replays, and check local storage if OBS is also recording. YouTube describes testing encoder failover, but a failover setup still needs to be configured and tested; it is not an automatic guarantee of uninterrupted playback. Troubleshoot common failures
YouTube does not accept the stream
- Possible cause: the channel is not verified or has a live-stream restriction, or the URL or key is incorrect.
- What to do: check channel eligibility in YouTube, confirm the current ingest URL and stream key in Live Control Room, and replace a key that may have been exposed.
OBS shows dropped frames or an unstable connection
- Possible cause: available upload capacity is insufficient or unstable for the configured bitrate, including because the connection is shared.
- What to do: check actual upload capacity and OBS’s indicators; reduce bitrate or resolution if the connection is the bottleneck, then test again. The change may help but cannot guarantee a stable stream.
The PC struggles, overheats, or encoding falls behind
- Possible cause: the selected resolution, frame rate, codec, overlays, or simultaneous local recording exceeds sustained system capability.
- What to do: simplify the scene, stop unnecessary simultaneous work, or try a less demanding output. Check the model’s supported encoding options and sustained thermal behavior.
The picture is live but audio or animation is missing
- Possible cause: a media source ended, the wrong audio device or track is selected, or the scene/source configuration differs from the test.
- What to do: inspect the active OBS scene and source, confirm audio meters move, and test item transitions and end-of-file behavior before returning to the scheduled feed.
The stream stops after a power, network, or software event
- Possible cause: the mini PC rebooted or lost power, the ISP connection dropped, or the encoder stopped.
- What to do: use the documented recovery procedure, inspect the PC and connection, then confirm the new feed in Live Control Room. A tested backup connection or failover encoder may help with particular failure modes, but does not remove the need to monitor.
