You can use VLC to play authorized MP4 cartoons in sequence and repeat the playlist, but getting that playback onto YouTube is a separate encoder task. YouTube’s documented workflow uses the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room; whether your installed VLC version can send a reliable, YouTube-compatible stream directly is not established here. Test the exact playback-to-encoder route before relying on it for a long broadcast.
What you need to make the stream
- MP4 cartoons you are authorized to broadcast, including permission for their soundtracks and any other embedded audio.
- A computer capable of playing the files and running your chosen streaming encoder, plus a reliable upload connection.
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream and access to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room.
- A playback-to-encoder route that your installed software versions support. VLC playlist playback and YouTube stream delivery are different stages; do not assume VLC alone can reliably handle both.
YouTube says costly equipment is not necessary to get started. Its guidance recommends testing the setup and monitoring the stream rather than assuming a computer or network will remain uninterrupted for a 24/7 run. See YouTube’s live-streaming overview and live-streaming tips.
Prepare and test the VLC playlist
- Check broadcast rights. Confirm that your permission covers livestreaming on YouTube and the intended use of the cartoons’ visual and audio elements. If you plan to monetize, YouTube says creators need the rights required for commercial use of those elements; see What kind of content can I monetize?
- Arrange the files. Put the MP4s in the order you want viewers to see them. Decide whether the playlist should end or loop back to the beginning.
- Build the playlist in your installed VLC version. Add the files and check their order, playback, and repeat behavior. VLC’s exact current menu names and controls are not verified here, so consult the documentation for your version instead of relying on guessed click-by-click directions.
- Test the entire sequence. Let files advance naturally and verify that audio is present and the intended repeat behavior works. A local playlist test does not prove that the output can be ingested by YouTube.
Connect playback to YouTube through an encoder
- Create or schedule an encoder stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream using an encoder. YouTube’s instructions are at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Copy the connection details. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room into the encoder that will send the playback. Treat the key like a password: do not share it publicly, and reset it if it is exposed. See YouTube’s RTMPS instructions.
- Use RTMPS if your encoder supports it. YouTube identifies RTMPS as the encrypted form of RTMP. Use the RTMPS URL supplied by Live Control Room rather than guessing or reusing an address.
- Verify the VLC-to-encoder path. Confirm that the selected encoder can accept the VLC playback output and deliver it to YouTube. Because reliable, version-specific VLC output support is not established here, check the documentation for the versions you have installed and test the complete route before scheduling a long stream.
Choose encoder settings and check the preview
Match the output to the source video and the upload connection. YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate encoding; frame rates up to 60 fps; and a recommended 2-second keyframe interval that should not exceed 4 seconds. Its published reference for 720p at 30 fps is 2 Mbps video bitrate and 3 Mbps recommended upload speed. These are YouTube’s guidance figures, not a guarantee that a particular connection will sustain the stream. Check the current encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guidance, test with similar motion and audio, and choose a setting your connection can carry reliably.
- Start the encoder and wait for the stream preview in Live Control Room.
- Check that the expected picture and sound appear, then review stream health before going live.
- For a scheduled encoder stream, follow Live Control Room’s start controls after the preview appears. YouTube says starting the encoder creates the watch page; see its encoder-stream instructions.
- During the broadcast, monitor audio, video, network conditions, and stream health. YouTube recommends ongoing monitoring in its live-streaming tips.
Rights, interruptions, monetization, and archives
Copyright checks can interrupt a live stream
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. It may show a placeholder, warn you to stop streaming the matched content, and temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream if it remains. YouTube also notes that a rights holder may need to add a licensed channel to its Content ID allowlist; having a license alone may not prevent an interruption. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Permission does not guarantee monetization eligibility
Copyright permission and YouTube Partner Program eligibility are separate questions. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams and identify highly repetitive or interchangeable channel content as a potential problem; reused-content review is separate from copyright enforcement. A license to broadcast a cartoon does not by itself establish that the channel qualifies for monetization. See YouTube channel monetization policies, whose page notes a July 15, 2025 update.
Do not assume a 24-hour stream becomes one archived video
YouTube’s encoder instructions state that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That condition does not establish archive behavior for one continuous 24/7 broadcast. Check current Live Control Room behavior and plan around the archive limits that apply to your stream; see Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Troubleshoot before committing to a long run
- The playlist stops instead of repeating: Check the repeat setting in your installed VLC version and run a full test through the end of the sequence.
- YouTube does not receive a signal: Recheck the stream URL and key in Live Control Room and the encoder. Confirm that the chosen VLC-to-encoder route is supported, and use the RTMPS URL if the encoder supports it.
- The preview stutters or stream health degrades: Test the upload connection and use a lower output resolution or bitrate if needed. Compare against YouTube’s settings guidance and test with representative video motion and audio before going live.
- The picture appears but sound is missing: Check that the source file has the intended audio and that the playback-to-encoder route carries it. Verify sound in the Live Control Room preview before starting the broadcast.
- The stream is interrupted after a content match: Review YouTube’s copyright notice and resolve the rights or Content ID allowlisting issue with the relevant rights holder. Do not assume a license alone prevents an interruption.
- The broadcast is disrupted after many hours: Check the computer, network, VLC playback, encoder, and Live Control Room stream health. The cited YouTube guidance does not promise that a consumer computer or VLC process will stay online without interruption for 24 hours.
