Yes. An internet radio station can send its audio feed to YouTube Live alongside a still image, using an encoder to combine the audio and video sources. YouTube documents encoder-based streaming generally, but does not publish a special preset or endorsement for this exact radio-and-single-image setup. You will need an eligible YouTube channel, an encoder, a suitable image, and the rights to stream the audio.
What you need
- A YouTube channel enabled for live streaming. It must be verified and have no live-streaming restriction within the previous 90 days. Enabling live streaming for the first time can take time. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- An encoder. YouTube defines an encoder as software or hardware that prepares a feed for streaming. Its setup guidance names OBS as an example of software for an encoder workflow; this is not a requirement to use OBS. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- Your station audio and a still image. The image supplies the video portion while the encoder sends the station’s audio. This applies YouTube’s general encoder workflow; the platform does not document a dedicated internet-radio-with-still-image configuration.
- Permission to stream the audio on YouTube. Confirm that your music and other content licenses cover the platform, territories, repertoire, and live-stream use.
Check rights and channel access first
YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to hold all necessary rights for the live content on Google services, including applicable music rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants, and to comply with local legal and licensing requirements. An existing broadcast or internet-radio license should not be assumed to cover a YouTube simulcast. Requirements depend on the licenses, repertoire, and territories involved; YouTube’s general guidance does not determine whether a particular station’s permissions are sufficient. Read YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions and check with your licensing organizations or legal adviser if coverage is unclear.
Your channel must also meet YouTube’s live-stream eligibility requirements, and the stream remains subject to the platform’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Check the current eligibility guidance before configuring an encoder.
Set up the stream
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create a new encoder stream or schedule one, following YouTube’s encoder setup steps. Choose the appropriate visibility and scheduling options for your test or broadcast.
- Copy the stream key into your encoder. YouTube uses this key to identify where the encoder should send the feed and to accept it. Treat it like a password: do not publish it or share it publicly. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Route the station audio and still image into the encoder. Select the station’s audio output as the audio source and add the image as the video source. Check that the image fills the intended frame without unwanted cropping or borders, and that the audio is audible and stable. The exact controls depend on your encoder; YouTube does not prescribe a still-image-specific setup.
- Select a YouTube-supported encoding profile. Use the codecs and audio settings described below, with a resolution and bitrate appropriate for your connection and intended picture. Save the profile and start sending the feed to YouTube.
- Preview before going live. In Live Control Room, confirm that the image appears and the audio is present, then check stream health. Test privately or unlisted when appropriate for your channel and workflow. YouTube recommends previewing and monitoring the stream; see its streaming tips.
Encoder settings and connection checks
YouTube’s published guidance for RTMP/RTMPS ingestion lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 video, and AAC or MP3 audio. It supports frame rates up to 60 fps. For stereo audio, YouTube recommends 128 Kbps; its listed recommendation for 5.1 audio is 384 Kbps. These are platform settings, not a requirement that every radio stream use a particular resolution or frame rate. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions and test the profile you choose.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Keep upload headroom. YouTube recommends available upload bandwidth 20% above the total stream bitrate. Account for the full outgoing stream, not just its audio component, and allow for other traffic sharing the connection.
- Check the complete signal. Confirm the station audio is not muted, distorted, or intermittently dropping, and that the still image is visible in YouTube’s preview.
- Monitor stream health. A successful encoder connection is not by itself proof that the audience is receiving acceptable audio and video. Watch the Live Control Room indicators during the test and broadcast.
YouTube’s general encoder guidance does not establish a guarantee of uninterrupted or permanent 24/7 radio simulcasting, nor does it state a still-image-specific continuous-stream limit. Plan to monitor the encoder, network, and stream rather than promise continuous operation based on the still image alone.
Do you need an audio interface?
Only if your station’s signal path requires one. If the audio already reaches the computer digitally in a form the encoder can select, an additional interface may not be needed. If audio comes from external physical equipment and must be brought into the encoder computer, an appropriate input interface may be needed to connect that signal. YouTube describes encoder workflows that can include external audio hardware, but does not require a particular interface or recommend a model.

Common problems and fixes
- The encoder cannot connect: Check that live streaming is enabled for the channel, that the stream key is current and entered correctly, and that the encoder is using a supported streaming workflow. First-time live activation may take time.
- The preview has no audio: Check the encoder’s selected audio source, its input level, and whether the station feed is reaching that input. If the source is external, verify the connection and any required input interface.
- The audio cuts out or sounds distorted: Check the station feed and encoder input for interruptions or excessive level, then test again while monitoring the preview. Verify the audio codec and bitrate against YouTube’s supported settings.
- The image is missing or framed incorrectly: Confirm the still image is assigned as the encoder’s video source and inspect the preview for cropping, borders, or an unintended canvas layout.
- The stream health is poor: Check the encoder’s outgoing bitrate and the connection’s available upload capacity. YouTube recommends 20% bandwidth headroom above the total stream bitrate; reduce the stream load or improve available upload capacity if that margin is not available.
- The stream is blocked or restricted: Review channel eligibility and any notices in YouTube Studio. Separately verify music and other content rights for YouTube, the relevant territories, and live-stream use.
Or let it run in the cloud
