If your YouTube livestream goes offline when its last playlist item finishes, check the app or player feeding your encoder—not the YouTube viewer’s Loop button. YouTube ends an encoder-based broadcast when the encoder stops sending content. Find out whether the broadcast itself ended, then check the source’s repeat or end-of-playlist behavior and confirm that the encoder is still transmitting.
First, identify what stopped
“The playlist stopped” can describe two different problems: a viewer’s playlist finished, or the channel’s actual livestream went offline. The fix depends on which happened.
- A viewer’s playlist stopped: Use the YouTube player’s playlist repeat control. That repeats playback for the viewer; it does not restart a separate creator livestream.
- The livestream ended: Check the source application and encoder that send the broadcast to YouTube. YouTube Help says, “To end the stream, stop sending content from your encoder.” YouTube’s encoder setup guidance describes the live transmission as encoder-fed.
To distinguish them, look in Live Control Room after the last playlist item. If the event is no longer live, investigate the source and encoder. If the event remains live but playback stopped for one viewer, check that viewer’s playlist controls and playback.
How to make a viewer’s YouTube playlist repeat
YouTube’s playlist Loop control applies to playback in the viewer’s YouTube player. The steps vary by device:

- Desktop: Open a video from the playlist, expand the playlist panel, then click Loop.
- Mobile: Play the playlist and tap Loop in the playlist control box.
- TV or gaming console: Select Repeat until the control shows “Repeat • Playlist.”
These steps repeat the playlist for that viewer. They do not make a creator’s encoder-based livestream resume after its source reaches the end. See YouTube Help’s playlist repeat instructions.
Fix a livestream that goes offline at playlist end
There is no universal YouTube-side “24/7 playlist loop” switch for an encoder-based broadcast. The exact setting depends on the software or hardware playing your videos and sending them to YouTube, so check its documentation rather than looking for a specific menu label that may not exist.

- Check the source’s end-of-playlist action. In the application playing the videos, look for a repeat, loop, or restart option. If available, configure the source to start the playlist again instead of stopping at the final item.
- Make sure the source does not close or stop the encoder. Some workflows may stop playback or end the sending process when a playlist completes. Configure the source and encoder so the encoder continues sending content between repeats.
- Check the encoder’s outgoing transmission. YouTube requires the Live server URL and stream key in the encoder. Confirm that the encoder is still sending content after the final playlist item; if it has stopped, the broadcast can end.
- Check Live Control Room and viewer access. Preview the stream in Live Control Room, then check whether it is available from the channel or watch page and on mobile. These checks help distinguish a stopped source or encoder from an issue with access or visibility.
- Monitor the output and local recording. YouTube recommends monitoring audio and video quality and checking that the local archive file continues to grow. If video or audio stops, or the file stops growing, note when it happens relative to playlist completion.
YouTube also recommends testing encoder failover as part of stream monitoring. Its Live Control Room guidance covers preview, access checks, monitoring, and archive integrity. The app and encoder are not identified here, so their specific menus and settings cannot be named reliably.
Does the made-for-kids setting stop the stream?
YouTube documents feature restrictions for made-for-kids content, including disabled live chat and reminder notifications; personalized ads are also disabled on live streams and Premieres. The reviewed policy does not identify the audience setting as a cause of a stream ending when a source playlist finishes. Treat playlist completion and kids’ feature restrictions as separate issues. See YouTube’s guidance on avoiding live-streaming restrictions.

Will a 24/7 YouTube livestream be archived?
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. That is an archive limitation, not a stated maximum duration for a live transmission. If you need a complete replay of a 24/7 broadcast, keep a local recording rather than assuming YouTube will preserve the whole stream. See YouTube’s live-stream archiving guidance.
