Short answer: YouTube and OBS documentation reviewed for this guide do not describe a supported way to feed a YouTube playlist URL directly into an encoder. For a DIY stream, use a playlist of local media files that you have the rights to broadcast, loop it in OBS, and send the encoded output to YouTube Live. A public YouTube playlist is not automatically cleared for rebroadcast.
Can a YouTube playlist be the source of a 24/7 bhajan stream?
Not through a documented YouTube encoder workflow. YouTube’s encoder setup provides a server URL and stream key for sending an encoder’s output to Live Control Room; OBS’s documented playlist option loops media files through a VLC Video source. Neither source documents entering a YouTube playlist URL as an encoder input. Do not treat the ability to watch a public playlist as permission or technical support for rebroadcasting it.
The practical DIY alternative is to assemble authorized bhajan recordings as local files, then loop those files in OBS. This gives you control over playback, but it means your computer, encoder and internet connection must remain available. YouTube recommends checking the stream preview and monitoring audio and video while live; OBS warns that meeting minimum system requirements does not guarantee encoding performance. The cited official sources do not promise unattended or uninterrupted operation.
Check channel eligibility and broadcast rights first
Confirm that the channel can go live
YouTube Help’s live-stream eligibility guidance, accessed October 3, 2026, says the channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16 years old. Review YouTube’s current live-streaming eligibility requirements before configuring the stream.

Clear the recordings and artwork for live use
You are responsible for having the rights needed for the live content, including music licensing rights. YouTube’s live-stream terms and conditions state that providers represent and warrant that they have the necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights. Check each recording and any artwork or visuals you plan to show; permission to listen to a recording or include it in a playlist does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it live or leave an archive online.
YouTube also warns that copyright restrictions can affect active streams. Review its guidance on avoiding restrictions on YouTube live streaming and resolve rights questions with the relevant rights holders before going live. The sources reviewed do not determine whether any particular third-party playlist or bhajan recording is cleared for your broadcast.

Build an authorized local playlist in OBS
- Prepare local media files. Put the recordings you are authorized to broadcast in a dedicated folder, and decide their playback order. Confirm that the playlist does not include an unlicensed track or image.
- Install VLC. OBS’s VLC Video source relies on VLC being installed separately. For 64-bit OBS, the OBS documentation specifies 64-bit VLC. Consult the OBS Media Sources guide for the current source behavior and installation notes.
- Add a VLC Video source. In OBS, add a VLC Video source to the scene, then add the local media files in the source’s playlist controls. Enable Loop Playlist if you want playback to return to the beginning after the final file.
- Check the scene and audio. Confirm that the video appears as intended, the audio is audible and not clipped, and playback advances through the playlist. Preview the scene before starting the broadcast.
- Keep the system running and monitor it. Leave OBS, the computer and its internet connection available for the broadcast. Watch for playback, audio, encoding or connection problems rather than assuming the stream will recover unattended.
This is OBS playlist playback from media files, not a method for importing a public YouTube playlist. OBS notes that performance depends on factors including encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity; its system requirements do not guarantee that a particular computer can encode reliably.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Create an encoder stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream using the encoder option.
- Enter the ingest details in OBS. Copy the server URL and stream key supplied by YouTube into OBS’s stream settings. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Start the OBS output and inspect the preview. Allow YouTube to receive the encoder feed, then check the Live Control Room preview for picture and sound.
- Start the broadcast in Live Control Room. Once the preview is satisfactory, start the live stream there. YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes this workflow and says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived.
- Monitor the live output. Check the stream continuously for audio and video quality, as YouTube recommends in its computer live-streaming tips.
What to expect from the archive and continuous playback
YouTube’s encoder guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is an archive behavior, not a guarantee that a stream will remain live beyond that duration or that an archive will remain available without restrictions. For an always-on schedule, plan how you will manage the broadcast and monitor it rather than relying on the archive setting as an uptime feature.

With the local OBS method, playlist playback is controlled by OBS and the broadcast depends on the computer and connection staying available. The official guidance cited here does not establish a guaranteed uptime for a home setup, a public YouTube playlist rebroadcast, or an automated recovery behavior for OBS.
Troubleshoot common problems
- YouTube receives no signal: Check that OBS is using the current server URL and stream key from the correct Live Control Room event, and that the encoder output has been started. Recopy the key if needed, taking care not to expose it.
- The preview appears but the public stream has not started: YouTube’s encoder process requires starting the broadcast in Live Control Room after checking the preview. Confirm that step rather than waiting for the preview alone to publish the stream.
- A playlist item does not play: Confirm that VLC is installed and that the VLC Video source points to valid local files. For 64-bit OBS, use 64-bit VLC as specified in OBS’s media-source guidance.
- The playlist stops at the end: Check that Loop Playlist is enabled on the VLC Video source and that the source contains the intended items.
- Audio or video quality is unstable: Inspect the preview and the live output, reduce workload if the computer is struggling, and check the connection. OBS says performance varies with encoding settings and scene complexity; minimum requirements alone do not establish reliable encoding on a specific machine.
- The broadcast is interrupted or restricted: Check YouTube Studio for stream status or policy notices and verify rights for the affected recording. YouTube’s restrictions guidance explains that copyright issues can affect live streams; the reviewed sources do not promise that an encoder will resume automatically.
