To run a dealership broadcast through OBS, first enable live streaming on the YouTube channel, build and test your camera and audio scene, connect OBS with the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio, then monitor the stream for as long as it is live. OBS can send a continuous signal while the computer and internet connection remain available, but YouTube’s guidance does not promise one broadcast will run indefinitely. Plan for monitoring and a restart or replacement stream if the session ends.
Before broadcast day: check YouTube channel readiness
The dealership needs a verified YouTube channel eligible to live stream. YouTube’s current eligibility guidance says the channel must have had no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days, and the person streaming must be at least 16 years old. First-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable and verify access well before the planned broadcast.
In YouTube Studio, review the broadcast’s privacy and audience choices before creating a public stream. YouTube’s requirements and controls can change; check the current guidance at YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility page.
Prepare an OBS scene for the showroom
Decide what viewers should see: for example, a fixed view of a vehicle bay, close-ups of a car’s interior and exterior, or a presenter introducing vehicles. Those are production choices, not YouTube requirements. The camera and microphone are optional inputs; choose and connect equipment suited to the scene.

- Connect the camera and microphone you intend to use.
- In OBS, add the appropriate video and audio capture sources to a scene. The exact source names and menus can differ by equipment and installed OBS version.
- Check framing, lighting, and focus on the OBS preview. Confirm the audio meters respond when someone speaks, and listen to a test recording or preview to catch noise, echo, or muted inputs.
- Keep the scene simple enough to leave running reliably. If you plan to move a camera or switch views, rehearse those actions before going live.
YouTube’s encoder guidance explains how to connect external video and audio hardware, but it does not prescribe a dealer-specific layout or camera model. The OBS Project Help Portal is the official starting point for OBS questions that depend on your version or hardware.
Create the YouTube stream and connect OBS
- In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and create or schedule an encoder stream. Set the title, privacy, and other stream details before sharing it with customers.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that broadcast. In OBS, open its stream settings, select YouTube or a custom service as appropriate for the installed version, and enter the URL and key. If the OBS version offers a YouTube sign-in or connection flow, follow its prompts instead.
- Treat the stream key like a password. Do not show it on screen, include it in a public document, or send it to people who do not need access. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- Start streaming in OBS. Return to YouTube Studio and wait for the incoming signal; inspect the preview and stream-health information before relying on the public broadcast or announcing it.
- When the picture and sound are satisfactory, use YouTube Studio’s controls to start the public broadcast if the stream is scheduled to begin manually. Confirm the live status in Studio.
YouTube documents this encoder workflow in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder. Follow the controls shown in your current Studio interface, since labels and options can vary.

Set a conservative OBS profile and test the actual connection
For a static showroom shot, a practical starting point is 1280×720 at 30 fps using H.264. Configure a constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and AAC stereo audio at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz. Use RTMPS when available. OBS’s encoder choices depend on the computer; select an available option that can sustain the intended settings without overloading the system.
YouTube’s published H.264 recommendations vary with resolution and frame rate. The figures below are recommended video bitrates, not guaranteed requirements or evidence that a given dealership connection can sustain them.

YouTube recommends CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, and says not to exceed four seconds. Its guidance recommends a 128 kbps stereo audio bitrate and 44.1 kHz stereo sample rate. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions; the page does not display a publication year.
Run a speed test at the dealership where the broadcast will originate, preferably at the time and under the network conditions you expect during operation. Leave capacity above the selected stream bitrate for overhead and normal variation. A brief high result is not proof of sustained upload capacity. YouTube advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” Test with the actual scene, representative movement, and audio. If YouTube reports stream-health problems, lower the resolution or bitrate and test again.

Plan for continuity rather than assuming an endless session
A continuous broadcast depends on more than an OBS setting: the computer, power, camera, and network connection need to keep working, and someone should be able to respond if YouTube stops receiving the signal. Keep the streaming computer and connection dedicated where practical, assign a person to watch stream health, and decide who can restart OBS or create a replacement broadcast if the connection drops.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its cited encoder guidance does not establish that a single stream can run indefinitely, guarantee automatic failover, or promise that a session exceeding 12 hours will be archived as one complete video. Plan the intended session duration and check YouTube Studio’s current controls before deciding how to handle longer operation.

For an Indian dealership, test the internet connection at the premises rather than assuming performance from a provider’s advertised speed. Confirm that you have rights to all video, music, and other material in the broadcast. The cited YouTube encoder guidance does not establish India-specific internet-provider quality, dealer advertising rules, vehicle-price disclosures, or local commercial music rights; get appropriate local advice for those matters where needed.
Troubleshoot common stream problems
- You cannot start a live stream: Check channel verification and eligibility in YouTube Studio, including whether there have been live-stream restrictions in the last 90 days. If live streaming was enabled for the first time recently, activation may take up to 24 hours.
- YouTube Studio does not receive OBS: Confirm OBS is using the stream URL and key for the correct YouTube broadcast. Check the selected service or connection method, then replace the key in OBS if it was reset. Avoid posting the key publicly.
- The video is unstable or YouTube reports poor health: Test sustained upload capacity at the broadcast location. Reduce bitrate or resolution, retain CBR and the recommended two-second keyframe interval, then test again.
- The picture appears soft or motion looks poor: Check whether the selected resolution and frame rate are appropriate for the scene and connection. Increase quality only after a representative test shows stable delivery at the higher bitrate.
- Viewers cannot hear the presenter: Check OBS audio meters, the selected microphone source, mute controls, and the test audio. Verify that the intended input is reaching OBS before restarting the broadcast.
- The stream ends during a long operating period: Do not assume OBS or YouTube will restart a session automatically. Follow the recovery plan: inspect the connection and OBS, start a replacement broadcast if needed, then verify the new preview and health in Studio.
