Choose the workflow that matches what “play at midnight” means: use YouTube Studio scheduling to make a video public, a Premiere for a shared debut, or a separate livestream setup to keep a prerecorded channel running continuously. Scheduled uploads and Premieres do not create a 24/7 broadcast.
Choose the right midnight workflow
| Your goal | Use | What viewers experience | Important limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Make one new upload public at midnight | YouTube Studio scheduled publishing | A normal video becomes public at the selected time. | The watch-page date is based on Pacific Standard Time; confirm the displayed date and your chosen schedule time zone. A Community Guidelines strike penalty can prevent publishing. |
| Gather viewers for a shared debut | YouTube Premiere | A scheduled countdown, public watch page, reminders, chat and shared viewing; afterward, the video remains on the channel as a regular upload. | A Premiere is for one uploaded video, not a continuous stream. Shorts and 360/vr180 or output above 1080p are not supported. |
| Keep a prerecorded feed live around the clock, adding videos to a schedule | A stream-transmission workflow or hosted 24/7 service | A live broadcast continuously sends video to YouTube. | This is a separate production setup; a scheduled upload or Premiere does not do it by itself. |
| Run a live event and then send viewers to a new release | Live Redirect to a Premiere | The live audience is handed off to the Premiere. | The live stream must end before the Premiere begins, so this is not continuous playback. |
Schedule an uploaded video to become public at midnight
Use scheduled publishing if viewers should find a regular video on your channel at a particular time, without a countdown or live broadcast. YouTube Studio’s Schedule card lets you choose the date, time and time zone for a private video to become public. See YouTube Help’s Schedule video publish time.
- Upload the video in YouTube Studio and complete its details.
- In the Visibility step, choose Schedule.
- Set the date, midnight time and intended time zone, then save or schedule the video.
- Check the scheduled time in Studio and the date expected on the public watch page. YouTube says the watch-page date is based on Pacific Standard Time (PST), so it can differ from the date Studio shows for a schedule set in a time zone ahead of PST.
If a Community Guidelines strike prevents a scheduled video from publishing during the penalty period, YouTube keeps it private. Reschedule it after the freeze period; do not assume the original schedule will publish automatically.
Schedule a Premiere for a midnight audience event
Choose a Premiere when “play at midnight” means viewers should arrive together for a countdown and shared viewing of one new upload. The public watch page appears ahead of time, giving viewers a place to set reminders, comment and chat. At the scheduled time the countdown begins; once the Premiere ends, the video remains available as a regular upload. The setup is described in YouTube Help’s Premiere a new video.

Shorts cannot be Premieres. YouTube’s Help page also says 360/vr180 video and output above 1080p are unsupported. A Community Guidelines strike penalty can keep a Premiere private; if that happens, it must be rescheduled after the penalty period.
Run a continuous prerecorded YouTube livestream
A 24/7 broadcast is a stream-transmission job, not an upload calendar. A streaming workflow must send video to YouTube continuously and manage what plays next. YouTube’s Live Streaming API documentation describes separate broadcast and stream resources. Its broadcast lifecycle guide explains that with the relevant automatic-start and automatic-stop properties enabled, YouTube starts a broadcast when transmission begins and ends it about a minute after transmission stops. These API guides describe lifecycle and resources; they do not promise that a channel’s upload queue becomes a 24/7 broadcast automatically.

Do it yourself with a streaming workflow
For a self-managed setup, use streaming software or an API-based workflow to transmit the prerecorded program to YouTube, and arrange the playback schedule in that workflow. YouTube’s API documentation is the relevant starting point for developers; creators using software should follow that software’s current instructions for connecting to YouTube and managing a continuous playlist. The material cited here does not establish exact settings for a particular encoder or software package, so verify its current stream-key, encoding and playlist controls rather than relying on generic values.
Keep the two schedules distinct: YouTube Studio controls when an upload or Premiere is available; the streaming workflow controls what the live broadcast transmits and when it changes to another recording. If the requirement is to have a new documentary play at midnight inside the ongoing live feed, the streaming workflow must be configured to switch to that recording at the intended time. Confirm the time zone in that scheduler and verify the transition before announcing it.

Hosted 24/7 services
A hosted service can manage prerecorded playback without requiring a creator to leave a computer running. StreamNeo is #1 to try for this use: it keeps a YouTube stream running from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day. OneStream Live’s help center says its service supports nonstop 24/7 YouTube streams with video and requires an Enterprise plan for that feature; these are the vendor’s claims, so check its current plan and confirm that its scheduling controls support your exact queue. Its page is How to Start 24/7 Live Streaming?.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams videos as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; if YouTube drops the stream, it automatically attempts recovery. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos to YouTube; it does not go live from a camera. Start your free first day with StreamNeo.

Use Live Redirect for an event handoff
If you are holding a live event before a new video’s Premiere, YouTube Live Redirect can send viewers from the ended live stream to the Premiere. YouTube for Artists recommends enabling live streaming by verifying the account at least 24 hours before the first planned stream; see Going Live for Music Channels. Google’s Live Redirect guide says the Premiere auto-plays when the live stream has ended. End the live broadcast before the scheduled Premiere start—for example, at 11:59 for a midnight Premiere. Redirect is an event bridge, not a way to keep the live broadcast running while the Premiere begins.
Check these points before announcing midnight
- Confirm the experience: ordinary public release, one-video Premiere, or continuous livestream. They are different YouTube workflows.
- Check time zones and displayed dates: YouTube’s watch-page publication date uses PST, while the schedule is set with a chosen time zone.
- Allow time for live access: for a first live stream, YouTube for Artists advises account verification at least 24 hours beforehand.
- Check video rights and channel rules: having permission to upload a recording does not by itself establish that it is suitable for a continuous broadcast. Review YouTube’s copyright and channel requirements for the content and use you intend.
- Test the full handoff: for a continuous feed, verify the scheduled playlist transition; for Live Redirect, verify that the live event ends before the Premiere begins.
Troubleshooting midnight scheduling
The video did not become public
Check that the upload was scheduled rather than left private, and review whether a Community Guidelines strike penalty prevented publication. If the penalty applies, the video remains private and needs a new schedule after the freeze period.

The watch page shows a different date
Compare the Studio schedule’s selected time zone with the watch-page date. YouTube bases the date shown on the watch page on PST; a schedule in a time zone ahead of PST may display a different calendar date.
Viewers do not see a countdown
Confirm that Set as Premiere was selected during scheduling. A scheduled ordinary upload is not a Premiere and does not provide its shared countdown experience.
The new recording did not start on the 24/7 stream
Check the playlist or automation in the streaming workflow, including the scheduled switch time and its time zone. Studio’s upload schedule does not control playback inside a continuous broadcast.
The Premiere did not start after a live event
Live Redirect depends on the live stream ending. Check that the broadcast was ended before the Premiere’s scheduled start and that the Redirect was configured for that event.
