Yes—multiple people can manage a YouTube channel and operate its live streams, but only if each person has a suitable channel role and the channel and creator meet YouTube’s live-streaming requirements. Owner, Manager, Editor, and Editor (Limited) roles can manage live streams; Viewer, Viewer (Limited), and Subtitle Editor roles cannot. Sharing channel access does not bypass verification, age, restriction, or mobile-subscriber requirements.
What multiple channel managers can do
YouTube channel permissions let an owner grant people access without sharing the owner’s Google Account sign-in. The permissions are role-based, and the role determines whether a delegate can manage live streams. YouTube describes this approach as safer than sharing sign-in details. YouTube’s channel-permissions guidance lists these capabilities.
| Role | Live-stream capability | Important limits |
|---|---|---|
| Owner | Can manage live streams and live chat. | Can manage permissions but cannot transfer ownership to another user. |
| Manager | Can manage live streams and chat or moderation in Live Control Room. | Can manage permissions in Studio but cannot delete the channel. |
| Editor | Can manage live streams and chat or moderation in Live Control Room. | Cannot manage permissions, delete scheduled, live, or completed streams, or delete or reset stream keys. |
| Editor (Limited) | Same live-stream permissions as Editor. | Cannot access revenue data. |
| Viewer | Can monitor streams they created before and during a broadcast, and see settings except the stream key. | Cannot manage live streams or moderate chat in Live Control Room. |
| Viewer (Limited) | Same monitoring permissions as Viewer. | Cannot access revenue data and cannot manage streams. |
| Subtitle Editor | No live-stream management capability. | Limited to subtitle tasks. |
These are role capabilities, not a guarantee that every role can use every start-stream workflow on every device. YouTube specifies that, in its adult-present scenario for an under-16 participant, an authorized delegate can start the stream only from Live Control Room.
Channel and creator eligibility requirements
YouTube’s general live-stream guidance, current as checked on October 3, 2026, says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. The creator must be at least 16. These requirements remain in force when a Manager or Editor operates the stream; assigning a role does not create a separate eligibility path. See YouTube’s “Get started with live streaming” guidance.

- Check that it has no live-stream restriction in the past 90 days.
- Ensure the creator meets YouTube’s stated minimum age of 16.
- Give the operator an appropriate channel-permissions role.
For webcam, encoder, and console workflows, YouTube lists these as ways to stream, but its cited guidance does not establish that any of them bypass the core eligibility requirements.
Extra requirements for streaming from the YouTube mobile app
Mobile streaming has an additional threshold: YouTube’s mobile guidance requires at least 50 subscribers, channel verification, live streaming turned on, and no live-stream restriction in the prior 90 days. First activation may take up to 24 hours. Check YouTube’s mobile live-streaming requirements.
The 50-subscriber rule is specific to mobile in the cited guidance. Do not assume that switching to another device removes the general verification, age, or restriction requirements.
Under-16 participants and adult-present streams
YouTube says a person under 16 participating in a live stream from an adult-owned account must have the adult visibly present. An adult willing to stream with the under-16 creator may receive Editor, Manager, or Owner access. In this documented situation, the delegate can start the stream only through Live Control Room, and the adult must be visibly present and engage comparably in the stream. See YouTube’s live-stream restrictions guidance.

How to give someone the right access
- Open channel permissions in YouTube Studio. The channel owner or someone authorized to manage permissions should invite the person through Studio’s channel-permissions settings rather than share a Google Account password.
- Assign a role suited to the task. Choose Owner, Manager, Editor, or Editor (Limited) for someone who needs to manage live streams. A Viewer can monitor, not operate, a stream; a Subtitle Editor cannot manage streams.
- Have the invitee accept the invitation. An unaccepted invitation does not give the person working access.
- Confirm eligibility and the correct workflow. Check channel verification, restriction status, age requirements, and—if streaming from the mobile app—the mobile conditions. Use Live Control Room for the under-16 adult-present delegate scenario.
- Check the channel’s own status. Review Feature eligibility and Live Control Room in YouTube Studio; public help pages cannot diagnose a particular channel’s state.
Why a channel Manager or Editor may not be able to go live
The person has a monitoring-only or subtitle role
Viewer and Viewer (Limited) roles can monitor but cannot manage streams. Subtitle Editor is for subtitle tasks. Ask the person who manages channel permissions to grant an appropriate role, then verify that the invite was accepted.
The channel is not verified or has a recent restriction
Check the channel’s verification and live-stream status in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s general rule looks back 90 days for live-stream restrictions.
The person is trying to use mobile without meeting its requirements
Check the subscriber threshold, verification, and whether live streaming is turned on. After first activation, allow up to 24 hours before concluding that the feature has failed to enable.
An account restriction is active
YouTube prohibits an account restricted from live streaming from using another channel to stream while that restriction remains active. Trying to work around the restriction may lead to account termination. Resolve the restriction through the applicable YouTube process rather than switching to a managed channel.

The workflow or account-specific status is the issue
Try the interface supported for the task—particularly Live Control Room in the adult-present delegate scenario—and inspect Feature eligibility and Live Control Room for the channel. YouTube’s public documentation does not establish a diagnosis for an individual permissions or enforcement problem.
Keep a YouTube channel live around the clock
If the goal is continuous playback of uploaded video rather than a person starting a one-off broadcast, StreamNeo is a cloud option for keeping a YouTube channel live 24/7. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video in the cloud, so a computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It is not a camera-live service.
Or let it run in the cloud
- Upload your recording or create a playlist.
- Add your YouTube stream key.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud.
There is no need to leave a home computer running. Videos stream as uploaded up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required; monthly billing is $9.99 per month. For eligibility and role questions, check YouTube Studio separately: using a cloud service does not bypass YouTube’s channel rules. Start StreamNeo’s free first day.
