Yes—an apparently hidden subscriber count is not a listed reason you cannot livestream. YouTube says channels can no longer hide subscriber counts. Eligibility depends on your account and streaming method: mobile streaming has a 50-subscriber minimum, while YouTube’s general requirements apply across methods.
Why your subscriber count may look hidden
YouTube removed the option to hide subscriber counts. In an August 2022 response, a TeamYouTube employee said counts would become public as the change rolled out, and that some channels might take time to reflect it. That historical rollout note does not establish why a particular channel’s count appears hidden now. YouTube’s current live-stream guidance treats count visibility and livestream eligibility separately.
So, do not treat a missing displayed count as proof that your channel is blocked from going live. Check the requirements for the method you plan to use.
Live-stream requirements depend on how you stream
| Method | Subscriber threshold stated by YouTube | Other relevant requirements |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile | At least 50 subscribers | Verified channel; no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days; live streaming enabled. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours. |
| Webcam | No subscriber minimum stated on YouTube’s cited general eligibility page | YouTube’s general requirements apply. |
| Encoder | No subscriber minimum stated on YouTube’s cited general eligibility page | YouTube’s general requirements apply. An encoder is a software or hardware production method, not a way to bypass account requirements. |
| Console | No subscriber minimum stated on YouTube’s cited general eligibility page | YouTube’s general requirements apply. |
YouTube’s general requirements are that the channel is verified, has no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and the streamer is at least 16 years old. The 50-subscriber threshold is specifically listed for mobile streaming; do not assume it applies to webcam, encoder, or console streams.

Check your eligibility in this order
- Choose your method. If you are using the YouTube mobile app to stream, you need at least 50 subscribers. For webcam, encoder, or console streaming, YouTube’s cited general eligibility page does not state a subscriber minimum.
- Verify the channel. Channel verification is part of YouTube’s general requirements and the mobile requirements.
- Check restriction history. You must have no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days.
- Confirm age eligibility. YouTube’s general guidance sets a minimum age of 16 for streaming.
- For mobile, enable live streaming. YouTube says activation for a first stream may take up to 24 hours. Its mobile requirements list Android 8.0 or later, or iOS 8 or later.

What changes for mobile channels below 1,000 subscribers?
Meeting the 50-subscriber mobile minimum does not necessarily mean every mobile stream will have the same audience reach or archive settings. YouTube says it may limit the audience for mobile streams from channels with 50–999 subscribers, and the stream archive is set to private by default.
YouTube says mobile streaming access is retained unless the channel falls below 50 subscribers. If a channel reaches 1,000 subscribers, audience limits may take several weeks to be removed; reaching the threshold may not change limits immediately. These safeguards concern mobile streams, not a hidden-count eligibility rule.

Common eligibility problems and what to check
- Mobile says you are not eligible: confirm that the channel has at least 50 subscribers, is verified, has no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days, and has live streaming enabled.
- You enabled mobile streaming but cannot start immediately: first-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
- You have 50–999 subscribers and fewer viewers can join than expected: YouTube may limit the audience for mobile streams in this range. The archive also defaults to private.
- You passed 1,000 subscribers but the mobile audience limit remains: YouTube says processing can take several weeks.
- Your public subscriber count still appears absent: YouTube’s 2022 announcement described a rollout delay at that time, but it does not identify the cause of a particular display issue now. Check the channel’s live eligibility directly rather than inferring it from count visibility.
