Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallFor a prerecorded fireplace stream that should stay live without relying on your home computer or upload connection, a cloud encoder is usually the better operational fit. A home PC is a reasonable way to test the idea if you already have suitable equipment and stable wired internet—and can monitor it. Neither option guarantees uninterrupted streaming, and the available evidence does not establish a universal cost or uptime winner.
What changes when you choose cloud or home encoding?
A YouTube live broadcast needs an encoder: YouTube describes it as software on a computer or standalone hardware that converts video into a format for streaming. You connect the encoder to YouTube using the stream URL and stream key. The choice here is where the prerecorded fireplace video is played and sent onward.
With a home setup, your computer, power, network, encoder software and video source remain part of the continuous broadcast path. With a cloud encoder, the cloud service plays and sends the video; your home computer and home upload connection are no longer needed for continuous playout. The cloud option still depends on that service and YouTube, so it reduces local dependencies rather than guaranteeing an uninterrupted stream.
YouTube’s encoder guidance lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for continuous prerecorded-video streams that does not require a dedicated PC. That listing identifies an option; it is not an endorsement or an uptime guarantee. See YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Which option fits your fireplace stream?
| Decision point | Home PC and OBS | Cloud encoder |
|---|---|---|
| What must stay available? | Your computer, local power, home network and upload, OBS, and the source video. Network instability and insufficient computer resources can interrupt streaming. | The chosen cloud provider and YouTube. The home computer and home upload are removed from the continuous playout path, but provider or platform problems can still interrupt the stream. |
| Setup | Configure a YouTube live stream, add the video source in encoder software, set up looping, and connect using YouTube’s stream URL and key. | Choose a provider that supports YouTube live playout, then configure or upload the prerecorded content and stream controls. Confirm file and codec support with the provider. |
| Attention after launch | Plan for monitoring, sleep settings, operating-system updates, network drops, and restart recovery. | You need not keep a home PC operating, but should check the provider’s monitoring, reconnect behavior, notifications, storage, and plan limits. |
| Cost and reliability comparison | Depends on equipment you already own, electricity, internet, maintenance, and any backup gear. No comparable cost or measured-uptime figure is established. | Depends on provider, storage, number of streams, and plan terms. No comparable cost or measured-uptime figure is established. |
| Usually a better fit when… | You are testing, already own capable equipment, and are comfortable watching over a local setup. | You want to remove home power, computer, and upload from the always-on playout path for prerecorded footage. |
Run the stream from a home PC
For a low-cost trial, a computer you already own can be enough if it can play the video, render the scene, and encode continuously. OBS does not establish one universal PC specification for a simple fireplace loop; actual needs depend on the output resolution, frame rate, and setup.
- Set up the YouTube live stream. In YouTube Studio, create or select the live stream and retrieve its stream URL and stream key using YouTube’s current encoder setup instructions. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it.
- Configure OBS. Add the prerecorded fireplace video as a media source, enable looping in the source settings, and check that playback continues after the file ends. Add only the overlays or audio you need; complex scenes require more rendering and encoding resources.
- Choose output settings your connection can sustain. Measure your stable upload capacity while other household traffic is active. Set OBS’s video bitrate below the capacity you can sustain consistently, leaving room for network variation and other devices. OBS notes that an unstable connection or one unable to sustain the configured bitrate can cause dropped frames. Use a wired Ethernet connection rather than Wi-Fi where practical; see OBS: Stream connection troubleshooting.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. Enter YouTube’s stream URL and key in the streaming settings, then start the stream and confirm in YouTube Studio that the incoming video and audio look correct before relying on it.
- Prevent avoidable interruptions. Keep the PC awake, disable sleep for the streaming period, avoid scheduled restarts during the broadcast, and make sure the video file remains accessible. Arrange a way to check the stream and restart OBS or the computer if it stops. A UPS can reduce the risk from a brief local power interruption, but it cannot fix an ISP, YouTube, or encoder failure.
If OBS struggles to encode
Check OBS’s dropped-frame and encoding indicators. Dropped frames point toward a connection problem; OBS recommends a stable wired connection and a bitrate that fits stable upload capacity. Encoding overload points toward insufficient rendering or encoding performance; OBS’s troubleshooting guidance recommends reducing output resolution or frame rate. Lower settings may make the picture less detailed or smooth, so choose a sustainable setting rather than one that works only when the PC is idle.

Protect the footage and plan for YouTube’s archive behavior
Changing the encoder location does not change your responsibility to have the rights to the fireplace footage, music, and other material in the stream. A live stream can still encounter copyright claims or interruptions; use material you own or are licensed to stream and review YouTube’s current policies.
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a continuous stream lasting longer than that will remain a single complete archive; check YouTube’s current guidance if preserving a replay matters. The under-12-hour statement is YouTube’s platform guidance, not a guarantee about every stream’s availability.

Cloud option: what to verify before choosing
Before moving a fireplace stream to a cloud encoder, confirm the details that determine whether it fits your actual workflow. YouTube lists cloud services, including Gyre, for continuous prerecorded streams, but the listing alone does not establish current pricing, media limits, or reliability.
- Supported file formats, codecs, resolution, and frame rate.
- Whether the service loops a single video and supports playlists as you need them.
- How it monitors a stream, reconnects after YouTube drops it, and notifies you when something fails.
- Maximum stream duration, storage allowance, stream-count limits, current price, and cancellation terms.
- How it connects to YouTube and how to replace or revoke the stream key if needed.
A cloud workflow can spare you from keeping home equipment on, but it adds provider dependence and does not remove YouTube from the chain. A cloud vendor’s own workflow advice should be treated as vendor guidance, not independent proof that cloud streaming is cheaper or more reliable.

What does not have a proven winner?
The available source material does not establish that cloud encoding is cheaper, has better measured uptime, or improves reach, watch time, or revenue compared with a home PC. The practical decision is about dependencies: choose cloud when removing the home computer and upload connection matters most; choose a home PC when you already have suitable gear and accept the need to maintain and monitor it.
