You can run a 24/7 Carnatic instrumental channel on YouTube by sending a continuous video-and-audio feed from an encoder to YouTube Live Control Room. Before going live, clear the rights for both each recording and its underlying composition, and arrange Content ID allowlisting with third-party rights holders. Then test the playlist, encoder, monitoring and recovery plan; YouTube may not archive streams longer than 12 hours.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel eligible for live streaming: it must be verified and have no live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. First-time live streaming can take up to 24 hours to become available. YouTube’s live-streaming help explains eligibility and activation.
- A playlist of recordings and compositions you have permission to use for the intended YouTube live broadcast and any planned archive or monetization.
- A video signal, such as cleared artwork or a visualizer, to accompany the audio.
- An encoder, either software running on a computer or a suitable cloud service, plus a plan for monitoring and recovery.
A 24/7 broadcast is an operating setup, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service. Power, network, encoder and rights-enforcement problems can all stop playback, so plan for each before promoting a continuous channel.

Clear the music rights before building the playlist
Check both the recording and the composition
Instrumental music is still protected music. A track can involve separate rights in the sound recording (the master) and in the underlying composition or arrangement. A modern recording of a traditional raga or kriti is not automatically free to use because the music is old or traditional. Identify the actual rights holders and obtain permissions that cover your intended use and territory. YouTube’s live-stream terms place responsibility on the creator to hold the necessary worldwide rights for live content, including music licensing rights from artists, labels, publishers and other royalty participants.
Get written permission for the actual use
For original recordings you control, commissioned performances, or licensed third-party recordings, keep documentation that spells out the scope. Confirm permission for YouTube live streaming, territory, duration, monetization, archiving and continuous looping; check any limits on edits, playlists or repeat playback. For a licensed catalog, ask the rights holder or distributor to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist before launch. YouTube warns that live streams can be interrupted by Content ID even when the creator has a license if the channel has not been allowlisted. YouTube’s live-content matching guidance describes possible interruptions and enforcement.

Do not treat general music libraries as a Carnatic catalog
YouTube describes its Audio Library music as copyright-safe within its platform guidance, and some Creative Commons tracks require attribution. That does not establish that the library contains Carnatic recordings suited to your program. YouTube also cautions that it cannot guarantee music found in unrelated libraries or channels is safe to use. Check each track’s terms and rights rather than assuming a source or label is enough.
Enable YouTube live streaming
- Sign in to the channel you intend to broadcast from and complete YouTube’s verification and live-streaming activation steps in YouTube Help.
- Confirm the channel has no live-streaming restriction within the previous 90 days. If this is your first live stream, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- Do a test before announcing a launch. This gives you time to resolve activation, rights, audio and encoder problems without disrupting a public broadcast.
Prepare the audio and visual program
Make a playlist from the tracks whose permissions you have documented. For an audio-led radio format, use a stable visual such as cleared artwork, a title card or a subtle visualizer. The encoder must send video as well as music audio; a blank or invalid video signal can undermine the stream even when the audio is working. Check that you also have rights to display the artwork.

- Listen through the playlist and check transitions, silence, clipping and playback gaps.
- Confirm audio levels are consistent and that the visual remains valid throughout the program.
- Decide whether the stream will repeat a playlist or use a live performance feed. Make sure permissions cover the intended continuous use and any repeated playback.
Configure an encoder and test the broadcast
YouTube supports software encoders running on a computer and standalone hardware encoders. The exact controls vary by encoder, so follow its current instructions for video, audio and network settings. YouTube’s documented workflow is to create a stream in Live Control Room, copy the server URL and stream key into the encoder, and start transmission. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to enter Live Control Room.
- Create or select the stream you will use for the channel. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown by YouTube.
- In your encoder, select its YouTube or custom RTMP destination as appropriate, then enter the server URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not control the stream.
- Load the Carnatic playlist or performance feed, add the cleared visual, and start sending the signal to YouTube.
- Check the Live Control Room preview for picture and sound. Run a private or unlisted test to check stability, transitions and audio before making the broadcast public.
- Once the preview and test are satisfactory, start the public stream in YouTube Live Control Room.
Design for continuous operation and recovery
Decide who or what will notice a failed encoder, lost network connection, power outage or YouTube interruption—and what happens next. A local software encoder depends on the computer, its power and its internet connection staying available. YouTube does not prescribe a particular computer model or minimum hardware specification in its cited encoder guidance; choose equipment according to the software and output settings you plan to use.
Rank #3
- Assign responsibility for monitoring the encoder, network and public channel.
- Write down how to restart the encoder, restore the playlist and replace or rotate a stream key if needed.
- Keep a local recording if you need a backup copy of the program.
- If choosing a cloud encoder, check its current features, terms, playlist workflow, support and pricing directly. A provider can reduce dependence on a computer at home, but it adds a service dependency and does not remove the need for monitoring or rights clearance.
YouTube’s encoder options currently include cloud-studio services such as Upstream; availability and features can change, so confirm suitability with the provider and YouTube before committing.
Choose between one long stream and shorter sessions
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If the YouTube archive matters, keep a local recording and consider shorter scheduled sessions, checking how each transition affects the live page, viewer experience and notifications. If one continuous live URL is more important, do not rely on YouTube to preserve the full stream as an archive. YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance explains this limitation.

Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want a computer or home connection to remain on, StreamNeo runs a YouTube-only continuous stream from uploaded videos. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud. It does not broadcast from a camera.
- Nothing has to stay on at home for the stream to continue.
- Every quality up to 4K 60fps streams as uploaded at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers.
- Automatic recovery is included if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free, with no card required.
Monthly pricing: $9.99 per month. Every slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB of storage per slot pooled across active slots, looping and playlists, automatic recovery and StreamNeo team support. Plans offer the same product; only billing length changes. See StreamNeo for details, then start your free day.

Troubleshoot common launch problems
Live streaming is not available
Check channel verification and whether a live-stream restriction applies within the preceding 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours; wait for it to complete before scheduling a public launch.
YouTube preview has no audio or video
Check that the encoder is sending both a valid video signal and the intended audio source, then inspect the preview again. Verify the selected playlist, output destination and stream key.
The stream is interrupted despite having a license
Ask the music rights holder or distributor to allowlist your channel in Content ID before broadcasting. A private license does not, by itself, prevent YouTube’s live matching system from interrupting a stream.
The archive is missing or incomplete
Streams over 12 hours may not be captured by YouTube. Keep a local recording if an archive matters, or use shorter scheduled streams and verify the resulting archive after each session.
Recommended Free Tools
A repeat or visual is challenged by a rights holder
Pause the affected material while you check the track-level permission, territory, term, loop or archive restrictions, and visual-artwork rights. Resolve the issue with the rights holder before resuming; do not assume an older composition makes a particular recording unrestricted.
