If your YouTube live stream keeps reconnecting on Excitel broadband, first determine whether the break is in the encoder, the local network, or the connection between your router and the internet. Connect the encoder by Ethernet, log the exact interruption times, compare YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health messages with encoder logs, and measure sustained upload. A fast advertised download speed alone does not show that your stream has stable upload capacity. The available details do not identify your Excitel plan, location, equipment, or test results, so they cannot establish the cause of a particular interruption.
Record what happens when the stream reconnects
Make a short incident log for each interruption. Use the same time zone throughout, and note whether the time is local or UTC.
- Write down the time the encoder reports a disconnect, reconnect, restart, or other error.
- Record YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health status and any specific error message.
- Note encoder CPU load, whether its local preview or recording stutters, and any relevant encoder log entries.
- Check whether the router or ONT status lights change, and whether other devices lose internet at the same time.
- Preserve encoder logs and a local recording if available.
Matching timestamps can help distinguish a local encoder restart from loss of the internet connection. They are evidence for diagnosis, not proof that Excitel caused a fault.
Remove Wi-Fi and competing traffic as variables
For a controlled test, connect the streaming computer directly to the router with Ethernet if the equipment permits it. Pause large uploads, cloud backups, and other heavy household internet use during the test. YouTube warns that shared network use can reduce the bandwidth available to an individual stream and that connectivity disruptions can break a live broadcast. Its guidance recommends leaving upload headroom and using a reliable connection: YouTube Help: Streaming tips.

A Cat6 cable can be a reasonable way to remove Wi-Fi from the local link as a variable. It cannot repair a fiber cut, provider-side congestion, or another upstream outage.
Check sustained upload against the stream bitrate
Measure upload from a wired device at several times, and, if possible, while the stream is running. Compare the sustained upload available to the encoder with the total bitrate it sends. YouTube recommends 20% upload headroom and says to account for both primary and backup streams where applicable. Its guidance states: “The total bitrate that you’re streaming cannot exceed the amount of upload bandwidth available.”
Do not use a download-only result, advertised plan speed, or one brief speed test as proof that upload is sufficient. The stream also competes with other traffic on the connection. No specific minimum Excitel plan or upload fault can be identified without the subscriber’s location, plan, and measurements.

Verify encoder settings against YouTube’s current guidance
Use YouTube’s recommendations for the actual codec, resolution, and frame rate you have selected; a bitrate appropriate for one combination is not universal. For H.264, YouTube currently recommends 5 Mbps at 1080p30 and 6 Mbps at 720p60. Other configurations have different recommendations in its encoder settings guidance.
- For RTMP or RTMPS, use constant bitrate (CBR).
- Set keyframes at two-second intervals; YouTube says not to exceed four seconds.
- Consider RTMPS, YouTube’s encrypted option.
- Read the exact Live Control Room error before changing settings. It can identify bitrate, format, keyframe timing, or a mismatch between primary and backup feeds.
See YouTube’s live encoder settings and its live-stream error guidance for the current requirements. Correct a reported ingestion-setting error before treating it as evidence of an ISP outage.
Separate encoder trouble from an internet fault
If the local preview or recording also stutters
Inspect the video source, capture path, encoder software version, CPU load, and encoder logs. YouTube recommends checking encoder health and CPU load. If the encoder output itself is not stable, address that local problem before changing the internet connection.

If the encoder output looks healthy but YouTube loses the feed
Test outbound connectivity from the encoder’s wired connection. YouTube advises contacting the ISP if a connection test finds a problem. Compare any connection failure with the incident log, router/ONT status, and Live Control Room messages. A clean test outside the interruption window does not rule out a brief recurring drop.
If Live Control Room identifies a stream-setting error
Follow the reported error rather than assuming the broadband link is at fault. YouTube’s error guidance covers issues such as unsupported formats, incorrect bitrates, keyframe timing, and mismatched primary and backup stream settings.
Report a suspected line issue to Excitel
Contact Excitel through its app, published customer-care channel, or support email. Provide the registered account details, service location, exact disruption times, wired upload-test results, and whether the ONT or router indicated a loss of optical or WAN service. Ask support to check ONT and line status, area outages, and packet loss or repeated session drops during the logged periods. Keep the complaint reference and use Excitel’s published escalation process if needed.

This is the provider’s published target, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service or a diagnosis. Excitel’s published terms describe plan speeds as best effort and subject to variation from network conditions, customer equipment, Wi-Fi coverage, and other technical factors; that general wording does not establish what caused an individual subscriber’s drops: Excitel terms and conditions.

A 24/7 setup needs recovery plans for both encoder failures and internet failures. YouTube recommends preparing encoder events in advance, monitoring audio and video, and testing backup-encoder failover by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet cable. Make sure primary and backup settings meet YouTube’s requirements; its error guidance flags mismatches in bitrate, keyframe timing, frame rate, audio, and other settings.
A backup encoder covers some encoder failures, but it does not replace a failed Excitel connection. A separately routed backup internet connection may help with a WAN outage, but verify its availability at the actual service address, sustained upload, automatic failover behavior, and stream recovery time. A second connection and a backup encoder protect against different failure modes.

A UPS for the router and encoder may help if local mains power is the problem and the ONT/router remain powered. It will not keep Excitel’s access network online through an upstream power or line fault. Excitel’s terms also describe conditions for provider-supplied equipment; check compatibility and support before replacing an ONT.
